1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The KH1508i / KH1516i KVM Switches are control un its that allow access to multiple computers from a single KVM (keyboard, monitor, and m ouse) console.

21 Chapter 4 Local Console Operation Overview When setting up your KH1508i / KH1516 i installation for the first time, we recommend doing it from the local console. Local console operation offers a menu driven On Screen Display (OSD) to handle computer control and switching op erations.
KH1508i / KH1516i User Manual 22 The OSD Main Screen After you successfully log in, a screen similar to the one below appears: Note: 1. The screen depicts the Administra tor's Main Screen. The User Main Screen does not show the F4 or F6 function since it is reserved for the Administrator and can't be accessed by ordinary Users.
Chapter 4. Local Console Operation 23 OSD Navigation T o dismiss the menu, and d eactivate the OSD, Click the X at the upper right corner of the OSD W indow; or press [Esc] . T o Logout, Click F8 or the Z Z Z symbol at the top of the Main Screen, or press [F8] .
KH1508i / KH1516i User Manual 24 OSD Functions OSD functions are used to configure and control the OSD. For example, rapidly switching to any port; scanning only selected port s; limiting the list of ports you wish to view; designating a port as a Quick View Port; managing port names; or making OSD setting adjust ments.
Chapter 4. Local Console Operation 25 F2 LIST This function le ts you broaden or narr ow the scope of which ports the OSD displays (lists) on the Main OSD Sc reen. Many of the OSD functions only operate on the computers that are listed on the Main OSD Screen.
KH1508i / KH1516i User Manual 26 F3 SET This function allows the Administrato r and each User to set up their own working environment. A separate profile for each is stored by the OSD and is activated accord ing to the Username that is provided during Login.

When activated, the beeper sounds whenever a Port is changed, when activating t he Auto Scan function (see F7 SCAN , page 32), or an invalid entry is made on an OSD menu.
Chapter 4. Local Console Operation 29 F4 ADM F4 is an Admini strator only fun ction. It allows the Administrator to con figure and control the overall operation of the OSD. To change a setting use th e Up and Down Arrow Keys to move the highligh t bar to it then press [E nter] .

Chapter 4. Local Console Operation 31 F5 SKP This function enables you to easily skip backw ard or forward, switching the console focus from the cu rrently active KVM Port to the previous or next available one.
KH1508i / KH1516i User Manual 32 F6 IP This function allow s you to select whether t o assign the KH1508i / KH1 516i’s IP address dynamically (DHCP), or to give it a fixed IP address. Press [Enter] to toggle between the choices. If you toggle DHCP Enable to Off, specify the IP, Mask, and Gateway in the appropriate fields.
Chapter 4. Local Console Operation 33 F8 LOUT Pressing [F8] logs you out of OSD con tro l of the computers, and blanks the Console screen. This is different from simply pressing [Esc] when you are at the Main Screen to deactivate the OSD.
KH1508i / KH1516i User Manual 34 Keyboard Port Operation Overview In addition to the OSD, the KH1508i / KH151 6i also supp orts port control directly from t he keyboard with th e use of hotkey co mbinations. Hotkey port con trol allows you to prov ide KVM focus to a particular computer directly from the keyboard .

KH1508i / KH1516i User Manual 36 Auto Scanning Auto Scan automatically switches among all the active Computer Ports that are accessible to the currently logged on User at regular intervals , so that he can monitor their activity automatically. (See SCAN/SKI P MODE of the OSD F3 SET function, page 26 for informat ion regarding access ible ports).
Chapter 4. Local Console Operation 37 Invoking Auto Scan To start Auto Scanning, key in the fol low ing Hotkey combination: 1. Invoke Hotkey Mode (see page 34). 2. Press [A] . After you press A , you automatically exit Hotkey Mode, and enter Auto Scan Mode, and Auto Scanning begins.
KH1508i / KH1516i User Manual 38 Skip Mode This feature allows you to switch between computers in o rder to monitor them manually. You can dwel l on a particular port for as long or as lit tle as you like - as opposed to Auto Scanning, whic h automatically switches after a fixed interval.

When a firmware upgrade procedure is interrupted due to a power failure or loss of network connectio n. 2. When the unit’ s firmware becomes co rrupted for some reas on an d you are unable to operate it.

Specify the MAC address and a port nu mber for the comput er that the Log Server resides on in this panel.

Network T ransfer Rate Set the rate at whic h the KH1508i / KH151 6i transfers data to remote computers. The range is from 8 to 99999 Kilobytes per seco nd (KBps).

Th e KH1508i / KH1 516i stores a separate configuration record for each user pro file, and sets up the working configuration acco rding to the Username that is used to log in.

Chapter 7. Windows Client Port Operation 85 Hotkey Setup Various actions related to manipulating the rem ot e server can be accomplished with hotkeys. The Hotkey Setup utility (accessed by clicking the Keyboard icon on the Contro l Panel ), lets you configure which hotkeys perform the actions.

Chapter 7. Windows Client Port Operation 87 Video Adjustment The Video options dialog box allo ws you to adjust the placement and picture quality of the remote screen (as displayed on your m onitor). To bring up the dialog box, either click on the Hammer icon on the Control Panel, or use the Adjust Video hotkeys (see Hotkey Setup , page 85).
