1 Intr oduction This quick start guide provides y ou with basic installation and use instructions. A limited set of features ar e described in abbreviat ed form.
2 P arts checklist Y our tel ephone package contains the f ollowing items. Save y our sales rec eipt and original packaging in the event warranty servic e is necessary .
3 Installation Install the telephone base as shown below . If you subscribe t o high-speed Internet service (DSL - digital subscriber line) thr ough your telephone line, y ou must install a DSL filter on the DSL line.
4 Batt ery inst allation Install the battery as shown bel ow. IMPORT ANT INFORMA TION: Use only the supplied rechar geable battery or r eplacement batt ery (model BT166342). T o order, visit our website at www .telephones.at t.com , or call 1 (866) 288-4268 .
5 Batt ery char ging Once you have inst alled the battery , the screen indicates the battery status (see the table below). If nec essary , place the handset in the telephone base to char ge the batt ery . For best performanc e, keep the handset in the telephone base when not in use.
6 Handset overview REDIAL/P AUSE Press repeat edly to view the last 20 numbers dialed. Wh i l e e n t e r i ng n um b e r s , pr ess a nd h o l d t o i ns e r t a di a l in g p au s e . PHONE/FLASH Press to mak e or answer a call. During a call, press to answer an incoming call when you receive a call waiting al ert.

8 Menu overview Use the menu to change the telephone set tings. Press MENU/ SELE CT in idle mode (when the handset is not in use) to enter the main menu. Press DIR or CID to scroll until the > is ne xt to the featur e you want to select. Press MENU /SELE CT to select or save the indicat ed item.
9 T elephone settings Use Menu structur e on page 8 to find and set f eatures. Many ar e simple yes/no questions. The following are a f ew exampl es of common featur es to set. Re fer to Handset settings in the on-line user’s manual for det ailed instructions on setting all telephone featur es.
10 Making, answering and ending a call Making a call Press PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER and then dial a telephone number , or predial b y first dialing the number and then pressing PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER .
11 Options while on a call V olume control While on a call, press DIR /VOLUME t o increase or pr ess CID /VOL UME t o decrease the listening v olume. NOT E : Th e han ds et ea rp iece v olu me se t tin g (1 -5) and s pea ker pho ne vol ume s et ti ng (1 - 6) are i nde pe nde nt .
12 Handset locat or Use the handset locator to find the misplac ed handset. T o start the paging t one: Press HANDSET L OCA TOR at the t elephone base to start the paging tone on the handset for 60 seconds.
13 Dir ectory Dir ectory ov erview The directory is st ored in the t elephone base. It stor es up to 100 entries. Storing names and numbers Y ou can add new entries to the dir ectory whenever a t elephone number shows on the screen (pr edial or from caller ID hist ory) by pressing MENU/ SELE CT then going to step 3 below.
14 T o dial a direct ory number When you see the desired dir ectory number , press PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER . T o edit a direct ory entry When the desired dir ectory number is on the screen, pr ess MENU /SELECT . Edit the telephone number (page 13). Pr ess MENU /SELECT .
15 Caller ID ov erview This product supports caller ID servic es offered b y most telephone service pr oviders. Caller ID allows you to see the name, number , date and time of calls. The available caller ID information will appear aft er the first or second ring.

17 Make sur e to set the dial mode to the c orrect setting (pulse dialing or t one dialing) for the service in your ar ea (see the DIAL MODE menu on page 8). Eliminate any back ground noise. Noise fr om a television, r adio or other appliances may cause the telephone t o not dial out properly .
18 The charge light is off . Make sur e the power cord is plugged in c orrectly and secur ely . Make sur e the battery is inst alled corr ectly in the handset. Foll ow the instructions in Batt ery inst allation on page 4 to install the bat tery . Unplug the electrical power .
19 Excessive back gr ound noise will cause a speakerphone t o fade in and out. T ry controlling the back ground noise b y turning off any audio devices near the speakerphone. Also, try to a void interrupting the person at the other end of the conversation while the person is speaking.

21 Electrical power: The telephone base of this c ordless t elephone must be connected t o a working electrical outlet which is not contr olled by a wall switch. Calls cannot be made fr om the handset if the telephone base is unplugged, swit ched off or if the electrical power is interrupted .
