Plug 2.5 mm headset into the jack on the side of the cordless handset (beneath small rubber flap). For hands- fre e telep hone co nv ersations, use an y industry stan dard 2.
10 T elephone operation Cordless handset pr ogramming Each cordless handset operates as an individual unit. The ringer sound, ringer volume, date/time , dial mode and language must be pr ogrammed separately for each cordless handset. F ollow the steps below to program the cor dless handset.

Each entr y can contain a number up to 24 digits, and a name up to 15 letters. A convenient sear ch feature can help find and dial n umbers quickly (see page 21).
17 Directory 17 Speed dial On the cordless handset, the numbers called most fr e- quently can be stor ed in speed dial locations 1-9 and dialed with only tw o button presses. Y ou can enter nine speed dial numbers of up to 24 dig- its. Each number is stor ed in a one-digit speed dial location (1-9).

40 Appendix OTHER HANDSET ON (and then) OR OUT OF RANGE displays on my cordless hand- set. • Only one handset can be used to make or answer a call anytime. If another handset attempts to do so, the screen will display OTHER HANDSET ON and then OR OUT OF RANGE.
41 Appendix T r oubleshooting I get noise, static, or weak signal even when I’m near the base. • Other cordless telephones and 802.11 wir eless routers used for home computer networks both use internal radios to communicate.
42 Appendix T r oubleshooting My cordless handset does not ring when I receive a call. • Make sure that the ringer is not turned off. Refer to the section(s) on ringer selection in this user’ s manual. • Make sure the telephone line cor d is plugged securely into the tele- phone base and the telephone jack.
43 Appendix T r oubleshooting • If your telephone is plugged in with a modem or surge protector , plug the telephone (or modem/surge protector) into a dif ferent location. If this solves the problem, r e-locate your telephone or modem farther apart from one another , or use a different surge pr otector .
44 Appendix Incomplete messages. • If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after four minutes. • If the caller pauses for more than six seconds, the system stops recor ding and disconnects the call.
