4 Getting started P arts checklist Save your sales receipt and original pack aging in case you need to ship your telephone for warr anty service. Check to mak e sure the telephone pack age includes the following. The model number of your telephone can be found on the label locat ed on the bottom of the telephone base.
5 Getting started T elephone base inst allation Choose a central location close t o a telephone jack and a power outlet not connected t o a wall switch. The telephone base can be plac ed on a flat sur- face or mount ed on a standard wall plat e. For optimum r ange and better reception, plac e the telephone base in a high and open location.

Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into a t elephone jack. 4. Plug the large end of the larger power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

To attach the bracket for wall mounting, insert the tabs of the bracket into slots and on the telephone base, then press the other bracket tabs into slots and as shown on the right. 4. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
10 Getting started Belt clip & optional headset Install belt clip as shown below if desir ed. Snap belt clip into notches on both sides of handset. T o release belt clip from handset, lift one side of the belt clip out of the notch. For hands-fr ee telephone conversations, use any industry standar d 2.
11 T elephone operation Set tings Each cordless handset oper ates individually fr om the other handsets. The ringer sound, ringer volume, date and time, dial mode and language must be programmed separ ately f or each cor dless handset. Follow the steps below t o progr am the cordless handset.

13 T elephone operation Set tings Choose ringer volume setting 1. Press and hold CID or DIR when the cor dless handset is idle (not in use). This feature allows you to choose low , med, high ringer volume or turn the ringer off. 2. Press CID or DIR t o choose the desired option.
14 T elephone operation Basic oper ation Making and answering calls To answer an incoming call, press any keys (except CID , DIR and OFF/ CLEAR ). To make a call, press PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER , then dial a number.
15 T elephone operation Ringer silenced Basic oper ation Las t number r edial While the phone is not in use, press REDIAL/ P AUSE on the cordless handset t o display the last number called (up to 32 digits). T o dial the number dis- played, press PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER .
16 T elephone operation Basic oper ation Handset locat or If you misplace the handset(s), press HANDSET LO C ATO R on the telephone base. This starts the paging tone at the handset(s) for 60 seconds t o help you locate it/them.

20 Dir ectory Memory capacity Each cordless handset has its own dir ectory . Each directory can st ore up t o 30 entries (including nine speed dial locations). Each entry can contain a number up to 24 digits, and a name up to 15 letters long. A c onvenient search featur e can help you find and dial numbers quickly (page 24).
21 Directory Speed dial Y ou can enter nine speed dial numbers of up t o 24 digits. Each number is stored in a one-digit speed dial location (1-9). The nine speed dial numbers on handset will be automatically added t o the handset directory .
22 Directory New dir ectory entries T o ent er a name • Press MENU/ SEL twice. • The screen will show ENTER NAME . • Enter the name (up to 15 alphanumeric char ac- ters) of the person using the table below . • Use DIR to advance t o the next space t o the right, or use CID then CHAN /DELETE to delete a mistake.

25 Directory T o change or dial entries When any entry is displayed, press MENU /SEL t o see options. Press CID or DIR to highlight the option you want (blinking text), then pr ess MENU /SEL again to select it. T o edit an entry When EDIT is blinking, press MENU /SEL .
26 Caller ID summary Information about call er ID with call waiting This product has a caller ID function with call wait- ing feature which works with servic e from your local telephone company . Caller ID with call waiting lets you see the name and telephone number of the caller befor e answer- ing the telephone, even when on another call.
27 Caller ID operation Caller ID summary How caller ID works If you subscribe to caller ID service pr ovided by your local telephone company , information about each caller will be displayed between the first and second ring. Information about the last 30 incoming calls is stored in the call summary .

36 Appendix There is no dial tone • First, try all the above suggestions. • Move the cordless handset closer to the t elephone base. It might be out of range. • The telephone line cor d might be malfunctioning. T ry install- ing a new telephone line cor d.
37 Appendix T r oubleshooting I cannot dial out • First, try all the above suggestions. • Make sure ther e is a dial tone befor e dialing. It is nor- mal if the cordless handset t akes a sec ond or two to synchronize with the t elephone before pr oducing a dial tone.
38 Appendix There is noise or interfer ence dur- ing a telephone conversation • The handset may be out of range. Move it closer to the telephone base. • Appliances or other cor dless telephones plugged into the same circuit as the telephone base can cause int er- ferenc e.
39 Appendix I hear other calls when using the telephone • Disconnect the telephone base from the telephone jack. Plug in a different t elephone. If you still hear other calls, the problem is pr obably in the wiring or local service. Call your local telephone company .
