About the Base and the Charger This product provides y ou with a base station with corded handset, a cordless handset, and a handset c harger . Y ou’ ll need to connect the base to both AC po wer and a modular telephone jack. Y ou’ll connect the handset charg er to AC power only .
There are f ees for Caller ID services, and they may not be availab le in all areas. This phone can provide inf ormation only if both you and the caller are in areas offering Caller ID ser vice and if both telephone companies use compatible equipment.
Base Installation 1 Connect the power cord to the base and an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switc h. Use only the pow er cord supplied with this product. If you need a replacement, call 1 800 222-3111. 2 Connect the corded handset to the base.
4 Confirm Lines 1 and 2. T o deter mine which line is whic h, press L and call one of y our telephone numbers. If you hear a busy signal, Line 1 is the number you called. If Line 2 rings, it is the number you called. 5 Install spare battery (optional).
5 2 Install the handset battery. Use only the battery supplied with this handset or A T&T Accessor y Batter y Model 2401, SKU# 91077. Handset Charger Installation 1 Connect the power cord. Feed the power cor d through the strain-relief channel on the bottom of the handset charg er .
3 Charge the handset battery. • Place the handset in the remote charging stand. The CHARGING light goes on. • Charge the battery for at least 12 hours. After the fir st charg e, the batter y typically c harges in onl y eight hour s. 4 Check for dial tone.
T elephone Feature Setup 1 Make sure the phone is off. 2 Press . 3 Press to highlight SETUP BASE or HANDSET SETTINGS . 4 Press . 5 Press until the featur e you want to set is highlighted. 6 Press . SET OK MENU 7 About Softkeys • Both the base and handset have softkeys below the screen display .
8 7 Follow the dir ections for eac h feature as described in “T elephone Features”. 8 Press O (CLEAR) on the handset or on the base to return to the Setup menu — OR — Press and hold O (CLEAR) on the handset or on the base to return to the idle screen.

10 Answering System (IT AD) Setup This answ ering system has two voice mailboxes. Mailbo x 1 is used f or Line 1 and Mailbox 2 is used for Line 2. Some answ er ing system f eatures are set independently f or Mailbo x 1 (Line 1) and Mailbox 2 (Line 2).
11 Answer Mode Y ou must set this feature f or each mailbox. When a line’ s mailbox is set to ANSWER + RECORD the caller can leav e a message. When a line’ s mailbox is set to ANSWER ONLY the system disconnects after playing the outg oing message.
12 FEA TURE SETTINGS Number of Rings Choose how many times the phone will ring bef ore the system answ er s an incoming call. Y ou must set this feature f or each line. If you set this featur e to TOLL SAVER ( TS ), the system answers after two rings when you have new messag es and after four rings when you hav e no new messages.
13 The base unit of this phone can be used with the corded handset, as a speakerphone, or with a 2.5mm headset (purchased separatel y). Answer a Call Lift the corded handset or press K or h (with headset installed). The ringing line is selected automatically .

15 TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE BASE Volume Adjust the volume of what y ou hear on a call using V OLUME + and - — OR — 1 During a call, press . 2 Use the softkeys to adjust the volume of what you hear . 3 Press to save the setting f or future calls.
16 TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE BASE Switch Between Lines Y ou can alter nate between calls on Line 1 and Line 2 as often as necessary . 1 Make or answ er a call. 2 Press to place the first call on hold. 3 Press the LINE button f or the second call. Then lift the base handset or press K or h to answer or place the second call.

18 TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE HANDSET Redial 1 Press . The screen displays the last five numbers dialed from this handset. 2 Use the softkeys to highlight the number you want to call. 3 Press a LINE button to place the call. Note: This featur e can only be accessed bef ore y ou press a LINE button.
19 Volume 1 During a call, press . 2 Use the softkeys to adjust the volume of what you hear . 3 Press to save the setting f or future calls. Mute Mute allows you to hear y our caller , but pr events the caller from hearing you. 1 Press . The screen alternately displays MICROPHONE MUTED and the previous screen.
20 TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE HANDSET Switch Between Lines Y ou can alter nate between calls on Line 1 and Line 2 as often as necessary . 1 Make or answ er a call. 2 Press the LINE button f or the second call. The first call is automatically placed on hold.

22 Y ou can store up to 50 telephone number s and names in memor y at the base and each register ed handset. Memor y inf or mation is stored independently at the base and eac h handset. Chang es made to memor y at one location do not affect memor y at other locations.
23 View a Memor y Number 1 Start from the “idle” screen. Press . 2 The screen displa ys: 3 Press or to scroll through memor y in alphabetical order — OR — Press , then enter the fir st fe w letter s of the name and press again to search. The closest match alphabeticall y is display ed.
24 Edit a Memor y Number 1 Follow Steps 1–3 under “Vie w a Memor y Number . ” 2 Press . 3 Press . 4 Press or . 5 Press to move the cursor to where you w ant to begin editing. Press for mor e editing choices. The screen displays: Press to delete numbers, then enter new numbers.
25 Delete a Memor y Number 1 Follow Steps 1–3 under “Vie w a Memor y Number . ” 2 Press . 3 Press . 4 Press to delete the display ed entr y — OR — Press to delete the entire memor y . 5 If you pressed , the screen displays ARE YOU SURE? . Press to delete the memor y — OR — Press to e xit without deleting.
Y ou can use I on the base or cordless handset to make intercom, page or conf erence calls and to transfer a call betw een the base and registered handsets. These features w ork in the same wa y at the base and handsets. Intercom 1 Press I . 2 Press or to select the location you want to call.
27 T ransfer a Call Y ou can transfer calls from base to handset, handset to handset, or handset to base. If a transfer call is not ans wered within 30 seconds, the call will ring again at the sending location. If the returned call is not answer ed within 30 seconds it will be automatically tr ansferred to the answ er ing system.
28 View Call Histor y The handset and base store up to 50 recor ds in the call histor y , with the most recent recor ds displayed first. 1 Press . 2 Select CALL HISTORY . The screen displa y is similar to the one above. 3 Press or to scroll through call histor y 4 T o exit call history , press and hold on the base or O (CLEAR) on the handset.
29 Display Dial Options Phone numbers are displayed in the f or mat they were receiv ed. Y ou can chang e the dialing sequence for a displa yed recor d, by pressing # repeatedly until the number is sho wn as you want it to be dialed. Then place the call.
30 Play a Message Associated with a Call Record If the caller left a message on the ans wering system, LEFT A MESSAGE appears under the caller’ s name in the call record. Y ou can listen to the message while the call recor d is displayed by pressing 1 .
31 This answ ering system (IT AD) can be accessed using on screen menus at the base or handset, using the buttons on the base, or from a remote touch tone phone. Instr uctions for those functions av ailable through base buttons appear in ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERA TION USING BASE BUTTONS.
32 ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERA TION Record Y our Announcement Y ou must record the announcement for eac h mailbox separately . 1 From the mailbox setup menu f or the desired mailbox (see “ Answering System (IT AD) Setup” in FEA TURE SETTINGS), select REVIEW/CHNG OGA , then press .
33 Play Messages The system plays ne w messa g es fir st, in the order they were receiv ed, then old messages (also first to last). 1 Press . 2 Select MAILBOXES f or the desired line, then press . Note: While a message is pla ying, y ou can pr ess to back up to the pr evious message, to delete this message, or .
34 ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERA TION USING BASE BUTTONS Y ou can access many answ er ing system f eatures and functions using the buttons on the base. Delete a Message Press D while a messa g e is playing to delete that message. Delete All Messages in a Mailbox 1 Press D when answering system is idle.
35 Record A Memo Y ou can record a memo up to four minutes long to stor e as a new incoming message. 1 Press r . Both Mailbox lights f lash and the screen displa ys PLEASE SELECT MAILBOX FOR MEMO . 2 Press P for the mailbox where you wish to stor e the memo.
Connect with the Answering System Y ou can access many features of this system r emotely from a touc h tone phone. 1 Dial one of your telephone numbers. 2 When the system answ er s, enter your Security Code (preset to 5000). Y ou will hear a ser ies of beeps and the system announces how many ne w messages you hav e in each mailbox.

38 BA TTERIES Batter y Life Batter y life depends on ho w far the handset is from the base, and other environmental conditions. NOTE: For optim um perf ormance, charge your cor dless handset in the handset charg er every night. Charge the Handset Batter y Pack • This batter y should remain charg ed for up to five da ys.
39 Spare Batter y This phone is equipped with a built-in spare batter y charg er in the base unit. The spare battery charger allows y ou to always hav e a charg ed batter y available should the handset batter y c harge become low .
Replace the Handset Batter y Pack 1 Install the handset battery. 40 BA TTERIES b) Place the batter y pack in the handset. Align the metal contacts on the batter y with the contacts in the batter y compartment. c) Replace cover by sliding it on its track up over battery case until it snaps firmly into place.
41 OPERA TING RANGE Operating Range This cordless telephone operates within the maximum pow er allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, this handset and base can communicate over onl y a certain distance—which can var y with the location of the base and handset, the weather , and the construction of your home or office.

43 If you hear noise or interference when using the phone: • Y ou may be out of rang e. Mov e closer to the base. • Household appliances plugged into the same cir cuit as the base can sometimes cause interfer ence. T r y moving the appliance or the base to another outlet.
44 If messages are incomplete: • If a caller leaves a v er y long message, par t of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after three minutes. • If the caller pauses for mor e than seven seconds, the system stops recording and disconnects the call.
