5 Installing the Software Here is the procedu re for i nstalli ng PEN TAX REM OTE Assi stant 3 . If an earlier ver sion of PEN TAX REMO TE Ass istant 3 is inst alled, it wil l be overwritt en. If you wis h to contin ue to us e w with PE NTAX REMO TE Assi stant, install PE NTAX REMO TE Assis tant 3 witho ut unin stallin g PENTAX REMOTE A ssista nt.
6 4 Click [PENTAX REMOTE Assistant] . 5 Select the desir ed language in the Select Language screen and click [OK]. 6 The instal ler start s. Click [Next ]. Follow the instructions on the sc reen and continue with the install ation. Some op erating en vironm ents selec t the la nguage aut omatic ally.
7 1 Turn on your Macintosh. Close any other software that is open. 2 Place the provided CD-ROM (S-SW75) into the CD-ROM drive on your Macintosh. 3 Double-click t he [CD-ROM drive (S-SW75 )] icon. The contents of the CD-ROM are displayed. 4 Double-click t he [PENTAX Inst aller ] icon .
8 PENTA X REMOTE Ass istant 3 This section explains how to start up an d close PEN TAX REM OT E Assi sta nt 3, th e main wi ndow l ayout and the funct ion s that are av ail able . To use the PENT AX REMO TE As sistant 3 , conn ect your camera to yo ur comput er using t he USB cable supp lied with the cam era.
9 1 Select t he start menu on t he desktop. 2 Select [Al l Pro grams] - [PENT AX Digital Camera Utili ty] - [PENTAX REMOTE Assist ant 3] . PENTAX REMOTE A ssistant 3 starts and the main window is displayed. Closing PENTAX REMOTE Assis tant 3 Select [ Exit] from the [ File] me nu on th e main window .

11 This sec tion exp lains the layo ut of the PENTA X REMOTE Assis tant 3 main w indow and t he func tions of t he vari ous windo w eleme nts. Main W indow Layout • When m ultiple camera s are conne cted to th e comput er, one main win dow is disp layed for each c amera.
12 The title bar display s the bod y numbe r of the came ra corres pondi ng to the main w indow. You can u se the [Se t body number ] dialog box of this program to assi gn a bo dy number to the camera . (p.21) You can use the menu b ar to sel ect rem ote sh ooting operatio n and camera settin gs.
13 The image ca pture d when shooting wit h the PENT AX REMOT E Assis tant 3 is displayed on the virt ual viewfi nder scr een. The remote shutter release bu tton for s hooting from PENTAX REMOTE Assistan t 3 is also dis played in the v irtual viewfind er disp lay ar ea.
14 To dock the floati ng vi rtual vi ewfind er scr een to th e main window, click in the upp er righ t corner of the virtual viewfin der scree n. This dis plays th e model n ame of th e con nected ca mera and the name of the attach ed lens. The virtu al viewfin der scree n can be de tached f rom the ma in window .
15 This executes function s or sets various settings o f PENTAX RE MOTE Assist ant 3. For Maci ntosh, the Men u bar app ears at t he top o f the des ktop. Menu Bar [Fi le ] men u Sing le shot m ode Takes o ne pictur e at a ti me with th e PENTAX RE MOTE Assista nt 3 and s aves it to a specifi ed locati on.
16 [Cam er a] men u Shutt er release Relea ses the shu tter on the c amera. The c amera sh utter operates accordi ng to the s ettings in th e PENTAX REMO TE Ass ist ant 3.
17 This sec tion exp lains the layo ut and o peration s of th e toolb ar of the PENTAX REMOTE Assi stant 3. To display the too lbar, sele ct [Toolba r] from the [View] menu. A c heck ( ) is added to the l eft of [Toolb ar] on the [View] menu and th e tool bar is display ed on the main window.
18 4 Green Bu tton Operates the same a s the gree n butto n on the camera in accordanc e with the camera s etting conditi ons. This is the same as selec ting [Green Butto n] from the [ Camer a] menu .
19 Connectin g the Camer a to the Comput er This sect ion exp lains ho w to co nnect you r camer a to your compute r. To use the PENT AX REMO TE As sistant 3 , conn ect your camera to yo ur comput er using t he USB cable supp lied with the cam era.
20 If mult iple cam eras are c onnected to the c omput er, you c an use th e [Switch bod y] subm enu of the [View] me nu to sele ct the cam era you w ant to operat e and set. • Depen ding on th e type of US B hub you are using, the c ameras may no t connect to the co mputer pr operly .
21 You can us e the [Set b ody number ] dialo g box to chan ge the body num ber of each c amera and the or der in wh ich the bo dy num bers ar e displa yed on the [Sw itch body] s ubmen u of the [View] men u. To displa y the [ Set bod y num ber] dial og box, s elect [S et body numbe r] from the [Tools] men u.
22 Select a came ra from the list a nd clic k [Mov e Up] o r [Move D own]. T he body numbe r of the ca mera chan ges accordi ng to pos ition of the cam era in the list . Click [O K] to save the changes and app ly the change s to the [Switc h body] submenu of the [V iew] me nu.
23 Taking Pi ctures This secti on explains how to take pictur es with th e PENTAX R EMOTE Assistan t 3. Before taki ng pictu res with the PENTAX REMOTE Assi stant , be sure to rea d the sec tions Getting R eady t o Shoot and Sa ve Mo des below.
24 Focus Mode Sele ct with the focu s mode lev er (C) on the camer a. Focusi ng Area ( AF Poin t) Mode Set with th e AF point s witchin g dial (D) on the camer a. • The four camera settings above ar e displaye d on the [Shooting Cond itions] dial og b ox.
25 Review th e followi ng preca utions b efore tak ing pic tures wi th the PEN TAX REMO TE As sista nt 3 . • Auto P ower Off does n ot work when the cam era is connecte d to the compu ter.
26 There ar e three m odes f or sa ving picture s taken with PE NTAX RE MOTE Assistan t 3 to the computer . In this m ode, one pict ure is ta ken a t a time and save d to a s pecifie d loca tion.
27 In this m ode, yo u can tak e mult iple pic tures at a ti me and save the m togethe r or sa ve only the sp ecifi ed pictur es. When yo u take picture s in this mode, the [Cam era buffer ] window i s display ed. Fo r each pic ture take n, an imag e of the pic ture is ad ded to the [Camera b uffer] win dow.
28 A checkbox is displ ayed i n the uppe r right corn er of each th umbnai l on the [Camera b uffer] win dow. You can sel ect an im age by clickin g the checkb ox and addin g a ch eck ( ), and then u se the too lbar on the [Camera b uffer] win dow to pe rform th e operati ons be low.
29 You can use the [Shoo ting Con ditions] dialo g box to set a nd ch eck the exposure and im age qua lity s ettin gs. (p.30 ) After c hecking the co mposi tion, p erform t he foll owing operation s as necessar y before taking p ictures.
30 [Shoot ing Condi tions ] Dialo g Box This sec tion ex plains the settin gs on the [Shooting Co nditio ns] dia log box. You can u se this d ialog box to che ck the sh ooting settin gs of th e camer a and chan ge them as neces sary. One dia log box i s displ ayed for each co nnecte d came ra.
31 The [Sho oting Condi tions] di alog box d isplay s the cur rent sett ings on th e camera . When any cha nges ar e made to the settings us ing this di alog box, the chang es ar e applie d to the settin gs on t he cam era. One [S hooting Condition s] dialog bo x is disp layed fo r each conne cted camera .
32 EV Comp ensation This set ting is availab le and ca n be chan ged when the shoot ing mode is set to e (Hy per-program ), K (Sensitivity pri ority), b (Shutter priority ), c (Aperture priori ty), or L (Shutter & Aperture pri ority).
33 Image Tone You ca n change this set ting. When the u is c onnected, se lect from [Bri ght], [Natural ], [Portrai t], [Landscap e], [Vibr ant] and [M onochrom e]. If [Monoch rome] is sel ected, [To ning] and [Filter Effec t] are enabled in pla ce of [Saturatio n] and [Hue].
34 Expanded Shooting - Interval /Timer Shoo ting This sec tion explain s the settin gs of an d how to take pictu res wit h inte rval/ timer shoo ting. You can u se inte rval s hooting to take multiple pictur es at a specifi ed tim e interva l, and yo u can use ti mer shoo ting to start s hooting at a s pecified time.
35 Sets the time (tim er) until sh ooting sta rts after [Start] is cli cked. You can set thi s from 0 seco nds to 12 hours , 0 minute s, and 0 second s. Sets the time interv al betw een shots when [Numbe r of sho ts] is s et to [2] or more ( Interval shooting ).
36 Expand ed Sh ooting - Bul b Timer This sec tion exp lains the settings of and how to t ake pi ctures with bu lb timer shoo ting. You can use bu lb tim er shoot ing to t ake mu ltiple pi ctures at a s pecified time inte rval us ing a long e xposu re.
37 To dis play the [Bu lb timer ] dialo g box, sele ct [Ex panded shooting ] an d [Bulb tim er] from the [Tools] me nu. Sets the time (tim er) until sh ooting sta rts after [Start] is cli cked. You can set thi s from 0 seco nds to 12 hours , 0 minute s, and 0 second s.
38 Sets the number of pictu res to be taken . When thi s is se t to [1], t he [Interval], [Ex posure tim e incre ment for secon d and subs equen t frames], and [Com posite] s ettin gs ar e disabl ed.
39 Sets whet her to align the compo site ima ge when [Add] o r [Aver age] is sele cte d. When [Ye s] is sele cted, y ou ca n adju st the a ngle a nd verti cal and horizontal posi tion o f each sh ot i.
40 [Set-up]/ [Date Adjust] Dialog Box This sec tion expla ins the setti ngs on the [Se t-up] an d [Date Adj ust] dial og box. You can use th is windo w to cha nge the Beep, World T ime, G uide d isplay , Brightnes s Level, Vi deo Outp ut, Folde r Name, Dus t Remo val, and File Name setti ngs a vailable on the [S et-up] men u of the camer a.
41 The [Set-up ] dialog box displa ys the curr ent settings of the camer a. Click [OK] to a pply the c hanged s ettings to the camera . Set-up Settings Beep Sets wh ether to turn th e operatio n sounds on or off. T o make i ndividua l setting s, add a c heck next to the ite m for which operation sounds are to be u sed.
42 Sets the date on the camer a. To displa y the [Date Adjus t] dialog box, sel ect [Date A djust] from the [Camera] m enu. Set the d ate st yle, date, an d time , and t hen c lick [OK ] to ap ply the s ettin gs to the cam era. To canc el this operati on, click [Cancel] or clic k in the upper right cor ner of the dia log box.
43 [USE R Mode Settings] Di alog Box This sec tion expl ains th e settings on the [US ER mode set tings] dialog box. You can use this dialo g box to change the USE R mode s ettin gs of th e camera as neces sary. You can also save the settin gs to th e com puter and load s etting s from a save d file .
44 The foll owing ite ms ca n be set i n the [US ER Mo de Setting s] dia log bo x. Click [ Save As ] to dis play the [Sav e As] dia log bo x. You can use this dialo g box to save th e curr ent set tings on t he [U SER mode sett ings] dialog bo x to th e comp uter.
45 [Custom Settin g] Dial og Box This secti on exp lains the s ettings on the [Cus tom Setti ng] dia log box. You can use this di alog b ox to ch eck the setti ngs o n the [Custom S etting] menu of the came ra and chang e them a s necessa ry. You can al so sav e the se ttings to the com puter and load s ettin gs fr om a sa ved file .
46 The [Cus tom Settin g] dial og box di spla ys the c urrent s ettin gs of th e camera. Cli ck [OK] to apply th e chan ged settin gs to t he camera. The [Cus tom Sett ing] dialo g box s etting s are div ided into five tab s labele d [Page 1], [ Page 2 ], [Page 3], [Page 4 ], and [P age 5].
47 To change a setti ng, se lect the s etting from the drop-do wn menu next to that it em. If a setting on the drop-down me nu is gray ed out and cannot be cha nged, add a che ck next to [Sett ing] to enable the Custom Setti ng. Click [OK ] to app ly the s ettings to the camera.
48 [Measure Manual White Balance] Dial og Box This se ction explai ns th e setting s on the [M easure manua l whit e balanc e] dialog b ox. The Mea sure man ual white b alance fu nctio n sets th e colo r standa rd by measur ing the white col or at a de sired l ocati on accordi ng to th e lightin g conditi ons for s hooting.
49 Under the light to adju st the white ba lance, fully d ispl ay a white sheet of paper in the viewf inder or selec t a white area as the su bject. Click [Shu tter release] to display the vi ewfinder ima ge in the [Measu re manual wh ite bal ance] dia log bo x.
50 After deter mining the measurem ent area, click [M easur e] to measur e the white bal ance. If [Manual white b alanc e was m easured succes sful ly.] is display ed, the white bal ance sett ing is appli ed to t he camer a. If the man ual wh ite bal ance s etting fails, [Fa iled to m easure manual white balance .
51 [Optio ns] Dial og Box This secti on explai ns the s ettings on the [Opti ons] dial og box. You can us e the [Opti ons] dial og box to set the image file save sett ings in auto sav e mode and the function s ettin g for the r emote shutter rel ease button on th e main window .
52 Sets the se ttings for the image fi le desti nation and file nami ng conv entions in aut o save mo de. Click [ Browse] to displa y the d irectory tree of th e com puter, and then sele ct the de stinati on fold er. Y ou can al so cr eate a new folder .
53 The fil e name format is as foll ows. 01_ABCD00 01.JP G Sets the function o f the r emote shut ter rele ase button on the m ain wi ndow (and [Sh utter re lease] on the [Cam era] menu ).
