C2669M (4/07) 3 Introduction This document is an addendum to the DVR5100 Series digital video recorder (DVR) installation and operation manuals and provides an update on new packaging, equipment, and features of the DVR5100 Series.

C2669M (4/07) 5 USB PC Keyboard, Mouse, and T emplate for the DVR5100 The DVR5100 provides a control pad on the front panel that allows you to access the unit’ s user interface (UI). A USB PC keyboard and mouse, and a keyboard overlay (template) are now included as an alternate method to accessing the UI.
6 C2669M (4/07) Ctrl + Right Arrow/Ctrl + Left Arrow Increases or decreases the audio volume. Page Up or Page Down Scrolls forward or backward through the timeline on the Quick Search dialog box, or selects the next or previous entry in a list on a menu or dialog box.
C2669M (4/07) 7 Auto Login The DVR5100 comes with four pre-defined user profiles: Administrator , Manager , Operator , and Guest. The first time you start the DVR5100, the system automatically logs in using the admin user after 60 seconds if an operator does not select a specific user at the login screen.
8 C2669M (4/07) Automatically Assigning Cameras to the W orkspace The DVR5100 automatically assigns or prepopulates cameras to the workspace. Cameras are configured starting at the top left video pane and ending at the lower right video pane. Figure 4 shows a 2 x 2 configuration.
C2669M (4/07) 9 Extending V ideo Retention by Changing Frame Rate T raditionally , users looking to retain video for as long as possible were forced to compromise between recording at a lower quality and a lower frame rate. The DVR5100 now introduces a powerful alternative to achieving longer retention times.
10 C2669M (4/07) NOTES: • The default setting for the DVR5100 frame rate was formerly Low 30/25, EnduraStor not enabled. • The default setting for the DVR5100 frame rates is now Low 1 image/second, EnduraStor enabled after 12 hours.
C2669M (4/07) 11 T IMELINE SYNCHRONIZATION IN QUICK SEARCH The cursor in the Quick Search display now tracks with the video. Y ou can move the cursor to any point on the timeline to instantly play back video from that time.

Y ou can o perate the DVR5100 using any of the following: • DVR5100 Control Pad: The DVR5100 prov ides front panel controls that allow you to loca l access to the menu system.

Quick export label : Indicates the function of this key when on-scr een menus ar e not displa yed. Enter/Shift: The Ente r/Shift key se lects menu it ems when menus a re visible.

20 C1696M (8/06) Overview of Navigation and Controls The DVR5100 Series D VR provides semitransparent on -screen menus th at allow you to adjust settings while co ntinuing to monitor l ive video. The DVR5100 Control P ad offers a quick and c onvenient set of local cont rols that allow you to c onfigure and operate th e DVR.
C1696M (8/06 ) 21 DISPLAYING AND HIDING THE SY STEM MENUS Press the Menu key to display and hide th e on-screen menus. The first ti me you display t he menus, th e DVR5100 dis plays the main menu.
22 C1696M (8/06) USING THE JOG/SHUTTLE TO NAVIGATE THROUGH MENUS There are two ways to re turn to a previous, or higher leve l, menu: • T urn the jog (inner dial) to the rig ht or left until you select the Back icon on the screen, and t hen press the Enter/Sh ift key .
C1696M (8/06 ) 23 3. Enter ch aracters by pressing the following keys: • T urn the jog to the rig ht or left to select a character of the name or IP address that you are ente ring. • Use the joystick, blue function ke y , or yellow function key to move between characters within the text field.
24 C1696M (8/06) On-Screen Menus The DVR5100 Series DVR on -screen menus hierarchy is designed to present only those menus for w hich you have permission. Depe ndi ng on your user role, you might se e all available menus or only a few o f the menus. There are user roles for an ad ministrator , manager , op erator , and guest.
C1696M (8/06 ) 25 SEARCH/EXPORT MENU The Search /Export menu contains op tions for lo cating an d reviewing r ecorded vid eo and for exporting s napshots an d recorded vide o. T o export video you must h ave a CD or DVD available. T o export sna pshots, you must have a USB sto rage device at tached to the DVR5 100 or t o t he KBD5000.

C1696M (8/06 ) 27 V IEWING A SPECIFIC CAMERA When you select a camera, its video stream is sent to the video pane with the green border . For examp le, if your display is set to a 2x2 layout an d the upper left video pane is selecte d, you can select any camera to display in this video pane.

32 C1696M (8/06) 6. Move to t he focus –/+ control an d do one of the following: • T o focus closer to an object, turn the shuttl e (outer dial) to the right. The plus sign (+) is highl ighted by a circle, indic ating the direction o f the chang e.
C1696M (8/06 ) 33 3. Move the joystick left or right t o pan to t he left or rig ht of the current sce ne. 4. Move the joystick up or down to tilt the camera up or down from the current sce ne. 5. Press and hold the Plus or Minus buttons to zoom in and zoom out of the scene.
34 C1696M (8/06) 4. Navigate the menu as follows: • Use the joystick to move throug h th e list of menu options and through th e list of settings for each option. • Press Enter /Shift to select or accept an option or a setting. Y ou cannot undo a change once you have pr essed this b utton.
C1696M (8/06 ) 35 Responding to Alarms Each time an alarm occurs, the DVR5 100 displays an Alarm Received dialog box, whi ch allows you to respond i mmediately to t he ev ent or elect to have the alarm event snoo zed for a specified amount of time. An alarm event must be ackno wledged before it will disappear fr om the screen.

Scripts may be used to control almost all system funct io ns and may be combined in a lmost any order . T o create a script you must be logged o n to the D VR5100 remote clien t applica tion.

40 C1696M (8/06) Activating Relay s The DVR5100 may be used to activa te relay output ma nually , connect ing DVR5100 devi ces to other ext ernal devices . A relay may be activated for a predeter mined period o f time (th e dwell time) or may remain la tched until there is an other signa l to release the relay .

42 C1696M (8/06) Using Patterns, Presets, and Scans With the DVR5100 you can ac tivate patterns, presets, and scans. A pat tern is a user -defined, viewable camera path w ith a beginn ing and end. The number an d duration of patterns va ries with di fferent po sitioning syst ems.

46 C1696M (8/06) Searching for V ideo The DVR5100 of fers two op tions for s earching fo r recorded video: • Quick Search: With Quick Search you can search for vi deo for th e cu rrently selected camera. • Enhanced Search: With Enha nced Search you can search for video on multiple camer as and for any available date and time ran ge.

C1696M (8/06 ) 53 PLAYBACK SPEEDS FOR RECORDED V IDEO While playing back re corded video you can pl a y the video at several speeds in either fast forwa rd or fast reverse direction. T o change t he playba ck peed for recorded vi deo: 1. Select a video pane that is d isplaying recorded video.
54 C1696M (8/06) 1. Perform a n enhanced search. Refe r to Performi ng an Enhanced Search on p age 49. The Enhanced Sea rch dialog b ox appears ( Figure 64). 2. T urn the jog (inner dial) to select a vid eo clip, and t hen select Loc k . The video r emains locked indefinitely.

56 C1696M (8/06) Exporting V ideo The DVR5100 allows yo u to export video as Qu ickT ime MPEG-4 or Pelco video form at (*.pef) and save t he file to a USB device, CD- ROM, or DVD. The defaul t export format is Qu ickT ime MPEG- 4, but th is may be chan ged during the export process o n the Enhanc ed Search dialog bo x.
C1696M (8/06 ) 57 4. Navigate to the export destination, and then select an option. Y ou can export vid eo to a CD, DVD, or USB m emory key . The medi a must ha ve sufficient space to stor e the entire video clip.
58 C1696M (8/06) T o export a video clip from the Enha nced Searc h screen: 1. Perform an Enhan ced Search. The Enhanced Search dia log box appears. For information abou t performing an enhanced search , refe r to Performing an Enhance d Search on page 49.
C1696M (8/06 ) 59 4. (Optional) T o adjust th e date and time, press the blue function key on the Panel Keypa d. The Date T ime Range dialog opens wh ere you can revi se and set t he date and time for th e exported video. 5. When all of the settin gs are corr ect, selec t Export .
60 C1696M (8/06) Capturing a Snapshot (Still Image) All snapshots are saved in a default folder called images which is created au tomatically on a USB device.
