Rotate the zoom control toward g to zoom in, increasing the size of the subject. Rotate the zoom control toward f to zoom out, increasing the area visible in the frame.

29 Auto Mode Auto Mode Shooting in the Auto Mode In the A (auto) mode, you can set image mode, white balance, continuous sh ooting, color options and distortion control in the shooting menu, and take pictures. 1 Press A to display the shooting- mode selection menu.
30 Auto Mode Using the F lash In dark locations or when the subject is backlit, you can shoot pictures with flash by raising the built-in flash. When the bui lt-in flash is lowered, the flash is W (off). When the built-in flash is raised, you can set the flash mode a ccording to your shooting environment.

32 Using th e Flash Auto Mode C Red-eye Reduction This camera is equi pped with an advanced red-eye reduct ion system. Pre-flashes are fi red several times at low intensity before the main flash , to reduce “red-eye.
33 Auto Mode T aking Pictures with the S elf-timer When using the self-timer, pictures are taken 10 seconds after the shutt er-release button is pressed. When using the se lf-timer, use of a tripod i s recommended. 1 Press n (self-timer). The self-timer me nu is disp layed.
34 Auto Mode Macro Mode Macro mode is used for taking pictures of objects as clo se as 1 cm (0.4 in.). Note that the flash may be unable to light enti re subject at distances of less than 50 cm (1 ft. 8 in.). Macro mode cannot be used with easy auto mode ( A 20).
35 Auto Mode Exposure C ompensation Exposure compensation is used to alter exposure from the value suggested by the camera to make pictures brighter or darker. 1 Press o (exposure compensation). • The exposure compensat ion guide is displayed. 2 Use the multi selector to adjust exposure and press k .

50 High Sensitiv ity Mode High Sensitivity Mode Shooting in the Hi gh Sensitivit y Mode In high sensitivity mode, ISO sensitivity is set high to reduce blurring caused by camera shake or subject movement even when shooting under low lighting or with zoom applied.

Cropped copies are stored as separate files. 1 Rotate the zoom control to g ( i ) in full-frame playback mode to zoom in on the image.
60 Editing Pictures More on Playback Resizing Pictures: Sma ll Picture Create a small copy of the cu rrent picture. Small copies are stored as JPEG files with a compression ratio of 1:16. 61 Movies Movies Recor ding Movies To shoot movies with s ound recorded via the built-in micropho ne, select shooting mode and follow the steps below. 1 Press A in shooting mode to display the shooting-mode selection menu and use the multi selector H or I to choose D and press k .

65 Connectin g to Televis ions, Compu ters and Printe rs Connecting to a Computer Use the supplied USB cable to connect the camera to a comp uter, and copy (transfer) pictures to a computer with the supplied Nikon Transfer soft ware.

Enabling distortion control reduces the size of the frame. At settings other than Off , the icon for the current setting is displayed in the monitor ( A 8).
