4 Important Operating Considerations for Safety • Place the projector in a horizontal position no gr eater than 15 degrees off axis. • Locate the projector in a well-ventilated ar ea without any obstructions to intake or exhaust vents. Do not place the projector on a tablecloth or other soft covering that may block the vents.

11 Connecting a computer sour ce Require d computer connections Connect one end of the provided computer cable (see page 16 for connect- ing video devices) to the blue M1 Computer In connector on the projector . Connect the other ends (USB and VESA ) to the USB and VGA ports on your computer .

14 Using the pr ojector with Windo ws 98 for the first time The first time you connect a computer running W indows 98 to the pr ojector , the computer recognizes the pr ojector as “new hardware” and the Add New Hardwar e W izard appears.

16 Connecting a video de vice Y ou can connect video devices such as VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, digital cameras, video game consoles, HD TV receivers, and TV tuners to the projector . There is also an audio input via the red and white A/V connec- tors.
17 Video de vice connections Composite video connection Plug the provided A/V cable’s yellow connector into the video-out connec- tor on the video device.
18 V GA connection If your video device has a 15-pin VGA output, plug one end of the included computer cable into the VGA connector on your video source. This connec- tor may be labeled “T o Monitor” on th e video source. Plug the M1 computer end of the cable into the Computer In connector on the projector .

29 Using the r emote control The remote uses two (2) pr ovided AA batt eries. They are easily installed by sliding the cover off the r emote’s back, aligning the + and - ends of the bat- teries, sliding them into place, and then replacing the cover .
30 Using the audio Using the projector’ s speak ers T o use the projector ’s speaker , connect your sour ce to the Audio In connec- tors ( L and/or R ) on the projector ’s composite connectors. T o adjust the volume, press the Vo l u m e buttons on the keypad or remote.
31 Using the k eypad buttons Most buttons are described in detail in other sections, but her e is an over- view of their functions: Menu –opens the on-screen menus (page 34). Select –confirms choices made in the menus (page 34). Up/Do wn arro ws –navigates to and adjusts sett ings in the menus (page 34).
32 Optimizing computer imag es After your computer is connected prop erly and the computer ’s image is on the screen, you can optimize the imag e using the onscr een menus. For gen- eral information on using the menus, see page 34. • Adjust the Keystone, Contrast, or Brightness in the Picture menu (page 35).
33 Optimizing video imag es After your video device is connected properly and the image is on the screen, you can optimize the image using the onscr een menus. 34 Using the menus T o open the menus, press the Menu button on the keypad or r emote. (The menus automatically close after 60 seco nds if no buttons are pr essed.) The Main menu appears. Use the arrow buttons to move up and down to high- light the desired submenu, then pr ess the Select button.
35 Picture menu T o adjust the following settings, highlight the setting, press Select , use the up and down arrows to adju st the values, then pr ess Select to confirm the changes. Ke y s t o n e : adjusts the image vertically an d makes a squarer image.
36 Presets : Pr esets are provided that optimize the pr ojector for displaying computer presentations, photographs, film images, and video images. Film input is material originally captured on a film camera, like a movie; video input is material originally captured on a video camera, like a TV show or sporting event.
37 Advanced menu Sharpness : (video sources only) changes the clarity of the edges of a video image. Select a sharpness setting. Color Space : This option applies to co mputer and component video sources. It allows you to se lect a color space that ha s been specifically tuned for the input signal.
38 Settings menu Audio: allows adjustments to V olume of the internal speaker and allows a chime to play when starti ng the projector . Adjustments can also be made from the pr ojector ’s keypad and the r emote. Sources: P o wer -up Source determines which sour ce the projector checks first for active video during power-up.
39 Startup Logo: allows you to display a blank screen instead of the default screen at startup, and when no sour ce is detected. Blank Screen : determines what color is displayed when you pr ess the Blank button on the remote.
40 Languag e : allows you to select a language for the onscreen display . Ser vice : T o use these featur es, highlight them and press Select . Factory Reset : restores all settings to their default. Lamp Reset : resets the lamp hours used counter in the About menu to zero.
41 Maintenance Cleaning the Lens 1 Apply a non-abrasive camera lens cleaner to a soft, dry cloth. • A void using an excessive amount of cleaner , and don’t apply the cleaner directly to the lens. Abrasive cleaners, solvents or other harsh chemicals might scratch the lens.
42 4 Loosen the two captive screws that attach the lamp housing to the pr o- jector . 5 Detach the lamp connector from the pr ojector by depressing the locking tab on the connector and lightly pulling it free. WA R N I N G : T o avoid burns, allow the projecto r to cool for at least 30 minutes before you r eplace the lamp .
43 Cleaning the Lamp Housing Screens In dirty or dusty environments, the two dust filter scr eens in the lamp hous- ing can become clogged, causing high temperatures and pr emature lamp failure. Routine maintenance to r emove dust from the scr eens lowers the lamp operating temperature and pr olongs lamp life.
