EN - 6 Keep children and people away . Keep children out of work area and under watchful care of a responsible adult. NEVER allow children to operate or play on or near unit. Be alert and shut off unit if children enter area. DO NOT allow adults to oper ate unit without proper training.
EN - 7 Adjust brush height before operat ing. Engage traction drive clutch bef ore attachment clutch. If brush is set too l ow or if terrain is irregular brush can drive machine rearward. DO NOT operate on steep slopes. DO NOT cl ear debris across the f ace of slopes.

EN - 11 ST A NDARD CONTROLS See Controls and F eatures on p age 10. T ract i on Dr ive Cl utch - Lef t Hand Lever Squeeze the T raction Drive Clutch Lever against the handlebar (1) to engage wheel drive for propelling unit. Release lever (2) to stop movement.
EN - 12 Throttle Lever The throttle controls the engine speed. T o increase or decrease engine s peed, adjust to: 1. Fast (normal or warm starts) to left 2. Par t-Throt tle at center 3. Slow (cold weat her starts) to right Elec tri c Starter The electric starter will start a properly choked engine when the starter button is pushed.

EN - 17 OPERATING PO SITION (Figure 7) T o connect the brush attachment to traction unit: 1. P lace attachment belts onto attachment pulley . NOTE: Holding down the attachment clutch lever will make it easier t o reconnect the brush attachment to t raction unit.
EN - 18 CHECK CLUTCH OPERATION Brush must stop quickly when attachment clutch lever is released. Wheels must st op quickly when traction drive clutch lever is released.
EN - 19 GENERAL LUBRICATION (Figure 8) 1. P lace unit into the service position (See Serv ice Pos iti o n on page 16). IMPORT ANT : Wipe each fitting clean before and after lubrication. DO NOT allow grease or oil to get on friction disc, friction plate or belts.
EN - 20 RECOIL GUARD FOAM C OVER INST ALLATION (Figure 9) The recoil foam cover slides over the starter handle and attaches to the recoil guard with Ve l c r o ® . NOTE: The recoil guard foam cover is not necessary for operation during the non-winter months.
EN - 21 ATT ACHMENT CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT (Figures 1 1, 12 and 13) Remove Att achment Cable Slac k 1. R emove the belt cover . 2. Lo osen jam nut on cable adjustment barrel, and then turn the adjustment barrel down to shorten cable and remove all c able slack (Figure 1 1).
EN - 22 Check Att achment Idl er Arm Roller Clearance (Figure 13) NOTE: It will be difficult to check the measurement inside the frame. Use a 1/ 2 in. (12.7 mm) minimum spacer as a gauge to check the clearance between the roller and the frame. 1. R emove bottom cover .
EN - 23 T RACTI ON DRIVE CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT (Figure 15) If drive slip s, adjust traction clutch to compensate for friction disc wear . T o adjust traction clutch: 1. Lo osen jam nut on traction cable adjustment barrel. Turn the adjustment barrel down to shorten cable and remove all c able slack.
EN - 24 2. T o gain b elt clearance, back out the st op screw from the frame until the drive plate assembly c an swing past it (Figure 15). 3. P ull idler away from t raction drive belt and remove belt from engine sheave. It may be necessary to turn engine pulley using recoil handle ( Figure 16).
EN - 25 BRUSH SEGMENT REPLACEME NT (Figure 18, 1 9, and 20) 1. S hut of f engine, close fuel shut-of f valve, disconnect spark plug w ire and allow unit to cool c ompletely .
EN - 26 3. Lo osen each bearing setscrew and slide bearings inward, aw ay from horizontal end sup port s. IMPORT ANT : Brush gearbox splined shaft will separate fr om brush housing u-joint. Support splined shaft to prevent damage (Figure 19). 4. M anually move t raction unit backwards, pulling brush housing away from brush assembly .
EN - 27 IMPORT ANT : Brush segm ents must be aligned properly so they do not nest tog ether (Figure 19). 7. R emove used brush segments and replace with ne w segments. IMPORT ANT : For each brush segment, align the pair of engagement fingers on alternating support shafts.
