GB - 6 AL WA YS remove key (if equipped) and disconnect wire from spark plug before assembly . Unintentional engine start up can cause death or serious injury . Complete a walk around inspection of unit and work area to understand: • work area • your unit • all safety decals.
GB - 7 AL WA YS shut off engi ne, allow blade to stop and disconnect spark plug w ire before clearing clogs or cleaning unit. Check grass bag for wear , dam age, and/or deterioration. Replace only with Ariens original equipment replacement parts f or safety .

GB - 11 CONTROLS AND FEA T URES See Figure 4 for locations. Engine/Blade Control The engine/blade control must be held against the handlebar to start the engine and blade. Engine/blade control feature on mower stops engine and blade within 3 secon ds whenever operator releases handlebar .
GB - 12 S t andard Mode ls T o change cutting height, move cutting height levers one notch at a time on each wheel to set desired height (Figure 5). NOTE: Each wheel on mower must be set at the same height fo r a level cut.
GB - 13 S peed Control (se lf-propelled models) S peed control rod changes the mower ’s forward travel speeds. S tart mowing slowly and use speed control rod to gradually increase speed to a safe, comfortable walking pace. S peed control rod should hold the desired speed.
GB - 14 FILLING THE FUEL T ANK GASOLINE IMPORT ANT : AL WA YS use gaso line that meets the following guidel ines : • Clean, fresh gasoline. • A minimum o f 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON). High altitude use may require a diff erent octane. Consult your engi ne manual.
GB - 15 To B a g 1. Shut off unit. 2. Install side dischar ge cover . 3. Lift rear door . 4. Hook g rass bag frame on mounting flange. 5. Lower r ear door . If necessary , lift rear of grass bag frame to lock in position. There should be no openings between bag and mounting surface after inst alling bag.
GB - 16 EMERGE NCY STOPP ING T o stop the m ower in an emergency: 1. Release the engine/blade control. 2. Release t he wheel drive control ( self- propelled models). 3. Allow all m oving parts to stop before leaving operator ’s position. ST ARTING A ND SHUT OFF See Figure 4 for all Controls and Features.
GB - 17 Ariens Dealers will provide any service, parts or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak ef ficiency . Should engine require se rvice, contact an Ariens Dealer or an authorized engine manufacturer's service center.
GB - 18 CHECK WHEEL DRIV E CONTROL (Self-Propelled M odels ) The unit must stop quickly and c ompletely when the control is released. Adjust or rep air if necessary . Se e WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ADJUST MENT on page 22. CHECK GRASS BA G Check grass bag frequently for wear or deterioration.
GB - 19 3. Check mowe r blade balance. Slide mower blade on an unthreaded bolt. A balanced blade should remain in a horizontal position. If eit her end of mower blade moves downward, sharpen the heavy end until blade is balanced (Figure 12). 4. Install mower b lade on unit.
GB - 20 SER VICE PO SITION Put unit into se rvice position for eas y access to underneath the deck. 1. Place unit on a flat, level surface. 2. D isconnect spark plug wire. 3. Remove fuel cap, place a piece of plastic bag over the opening and tighten cap securely .
GB - 21 ENGINE/BLADE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT (91 1 192, 193, 1 94) T o adjust engine/blade control: 1. Loosen cable nuts away from bracket. 2. Squeeze z-bend bracket at engine end of cable toward front of unit and hold in place. 3. Pull cable down from bracket unt il there is no slack in cable.
GB - 22 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT (Self-Propelled M odels ) See Figure 16. NOTE: When the whee l drive control is disengaged, the gap between the friction disc and the aluminum drive plate should be approximately .030" (.7mm). See Figure 16.
GB - 23 2. Check the adjustment and readjust as needed. NOTE: If the gap bet ween the friction disc and aluminum drive plate cannot be adjusted to this tolerance, t ake the unit to an authorized service dealer for repairs.
GB - 24 IMPORT ANT : NEVER spray unit with high- pressure wa ter or store unit outdoors. S tore mower in a coo l, dry , protected location. Cleaning Clean unit thoroughly with mild soap and low pressure water . Brush off dirt and debris from all surfaces.
