Caring for the environment Disposal of the packing mate ria l The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are envir onmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled. Rather than just throwing these ma- terials away , please ensure they are of- fered for recycling.
W ar ning and safety instr uctions This appliance complies with all rele- vant legal safety requir ements. Im- proper use of the appliance can, however , present a risk of both per- sonal injury and material damage. Before installation and befor e using for the first time, read the operating instructions carefully .
The electrical safety of this ap- pliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system which complies with local and national safety regulations. It is most im- portant that this basic safety require- ment is tested by a qualified electri- cian.
Do not store cans or bottles con- taining carbonated drinks or liquids which could freeze in the freezer . The cans or bottles could ex- plode. Danger of injury and damage to the appliance. When cooling drinks quickly in the freezer make sure bottles ar e not left in for more than one hour , otherwise they could burst.
Disposal of old appliances Before disposing of an old ap- pliance first make the door latch or lock unusable. This way you will prevent children from accidentally locking themselves in and endangering their lives. Before disposing of an old ap- pliance, unplug it and render the plug useless.
Switching on and off Before using for the first time Clean the appliance interior and all accessories. Use war m water and a little washing up liquid and dr y with a soft cloth. Use the stopper supplied to plug the defrosting outlet in the b ottom of the interior of the appliance.
The correct temper ature . . . in the freez er It is very impor tant to set the correct temperature for storing food in the freezer . Micro organisms will cause food which is not stored at the corr ect temperature to d eteriorate rapidly . T em- perature influences the gr owth rate of these micro organisms.
If the freezer has very little food stored in it and for this r eason the temperature selector has been set at "Spar" (Economy), it is very im- portant to monitor the temperature to ensure that it r emains at least -18 ° C. Y ou can check the tempera- ture by pl acing a thermometer on the top layer of frozen food.
W arning lig ht Y our appliance has been fitted with a warning system which ensures that the temperature in the fr eezer cannot rise unnoticed. The warning light will come on as soon as the temperature becomes too warm. The temperature selector determines the range of tem- peratures the appliance r ecog nises as too warm.
Super fr eeze Freezing fresh food Fresh food should be fr ozen as quickly as possible. This way the nutr itional value of the food, its vitamin content, appearance and taste are not im- paired. Food which takes a long time to freeze will lose more water from its cells which then shrink.
Interior Bask ets The baskets make it easier to arrange the food in the freezer . Hang the baskets by hooking the handles on to the rim of the freezer , or Stack the baskets in the freezer: – place one of the baskets on the floor of the freezer . – press down the handles on this basket, lift them up and swing them inwards.
Freezing and storing food Maxi mum fr eezing capacity T o ensure that fr es h food placed in the freezer fr eezes through to the cor e as quickly as possible, the maximum freez- ing capacity must not be exceeded. The maximum freezing capacity for freezing within a 24 hour period is given on the data plate “ Fr eezing ca- pacity .
– Do not place hot foods or drinks in the freezer . This causes already frozen food to thaw and incr eases the energy consumption consider- ably . Allow hot foods and drinks to cool down before placing them in the freezer . Packing Freeze food in portions.
Fruit should be defrosted at r oom tem- perature in its packing or in a covered bowl. Most vegetables can be cooked while still frozen. Just put straight into boiling water or hot fat. The cooking time is slightly less than that of fresh vege- tables.
Defrosting "Stop Frost" system In normal use ice and frost will for m on the evaporator plates. If allowed to ac- cumulate, this will impair the efficiency of the freezer and incr eas e the con- sumption of electricity . The stop frost system reduces the build up of ice and frost by appr ox.
We do not r ecommend the use of hot air blowers such as hair dr yers for defrosting your freezer . Never place electric heaters or candles in the appliance to defrost it.
Cleaning and care Never use cleaning agents contain- ing abrasive substances such as sand, soda, acids or chemical sol- vents. “ Non-abrasive ” cleaning agents are also unsuitable as they can cause matt areas to appear . Make sure that no water can pene- trate into the electronic unit or into the ventilation gaps.
Once the temperature in the fr eezer has reached the r eq uired temper a- ture place the food back in the freezer . The super freeze function can be switched off as soon as -18 ° C is reached.
Problem solving guide Repairs to electrical appliances should only be carried out by a suit- ably qualified and competent per- son in accordance with local and national safety regulations. Repairs and other work by unqualified per- sons could be dangerous.

Installation Location The appliance should be installed on a level and stable sur face. It should be situated far enough away from a wall to ensur e that the lid can be opened and closed easily . The appliance should be installed in a dry well ventilated room.
