Read these Operating Instructions carefully bef ore installing or using the V entilation System. This appliance is intended for residential use only . Use the appliance only for its intended purpose. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damages caused by improper use of the hood.
This equipment is not designed for maritime use or for use in mobile installations such as caravans or aircraft. However , under certain conditions it may be possible for an installation in these applications. Please contact the nearest Miele dealer or the T echnical Service Department with specific requir ements.
, W ARNING - T O REDUCE THE RISK OF A RANGE T OP GREASE FIRE: Never leave surface units unattended at high settings. Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spillovers may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low or medium settings. Always turn the hood “ON” when cooking at high heat or when cooking flaming foods.
Installation , W ARNING T o reduce the risk of fire only use metal ductwork. When installing the hood, follow the recommended minimum safety distances between a Miele cooktop and the hood: – 22" (55 cm) above electric cooktops, – 26" (65 cm) above gas cooktops, – 26" (65 cm) above an open grill.

The ventilation hood works by air extraction. The air is drawn in and cleaned by the grease filters and directed outside. The hood comes equipped with a non-return flap . This flap automatically closes when the hood is turned off so that no exchange of outside air and room air can occur .
Main power switch Press the main power switch to "I". The fan and the lighting can now be operated. If the appliance is not going to be used for a long period of time (e.g. while vacationing) turn the appliance off by pressing the main power switch to "0".
T urning off the fan ^ Press the On/Of f button to turn the fan off. The indicator goes out. A utomatic Safety Shut Off The fan will turn off automatically 10 hours after the last button was activated. The lighting however will remain on. ^ Press the On/Of f button to turn the fan back on again.
Grease filter timer A timer monitors the hours of fan operation. The indicator for the grease filter will light after 30 hours of operation. The grease filters must then be cleaned. After the grease filters have been cleaned and put in place, the grease filter timer must be reset.
Reprogramming the grease filter timer The grease filter timer is pr eset to 30 hours. This time can be lengthened or shortened to 20, 30, 40 or 50 hours. – A time of 20 hours should be programmed in kitchens with frequent pan or deep frying. – A time of 20 hours should also be programmed if the kitchen is only used occasionally .
Before cleaning or servicing the hood, disconnect it from the power supply by either removing the fuse, unplugging it from the outlet or manually "tripping" the circuit breaker . Cleaning the casing , Never use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, steel wool or caustic (oven) cleaners on the hood.
Grease filters The reusable metal gr ease filters remove solid particles from the vented kitchen air (grease, dust, etc). The grease filters should be cleaned every 3 - 4 weeks or whenever the grease filter indicator lights. A dirty filter is a fire hazard.
Changing the light bulb Before changing the light bulbs, disconnect the hood from the power supply by either removing the fuse, unplugging it, or manually "tripping" the circuit br eaker . When in use halogen bulbs become extremely hot, and they can burn your hands.

Disposal of packing material The cardboar d box and packing materials protect the appliance during shipping. They have been designed to be biodegradable and recyclable. Please recycle. T o prevent suf focation of children, ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags etc.

The majority of the weight of the installed V entilation System will be supported by the motor assembly . Its mounting bracket must be firmly attached to the stud framing behind the drywall. If studs are not located in the requir ed locations, a plywood backing (min.
All electrical work should be perfor med by a qualified electrician in strict accordance with national and local safety regulations. Installation, repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous. The manufactur er can not be held responsible for unauthorized work.
Standard unit height H : 32 1 / 2 " - 42 1 / 8 " (825 - 1070 mm) T o fit the chimney , distance A between the top of the chimney and the ceiling must be at least 7 / 8 " (20 mm). Cut out area in wall or ceiling for entrance of 6" (150 mm) ductwork, with reducing collar 5" (125 mm).
Do not install this hood over cooktops burning solid fuel. When installing the hood, make sure that the following minimum safety distance ( S ) between the top of a Miele cooking surface and the botto.
Attaching the hood and motor assembl y to the wall The chimney and chimney extension are attached to the wall using 2 retaining plates. The motor assembly is attached separately using 4 screws. T o layout the loctaions for the plates and motor assembly: ^ Draw a vertical line, centered on the cooktop, on the wall where the hood will be installed.
^ Drill the 4 marked holes for the upper and lower retaining plates using a 1 / 8 " (3 mm) diameter bit. ^ Screw the upper and lower r etaining plates securely to the wall. ^ Screw the 2 motor assembly support screws into the marked locations. Allow the screw heads to pr otrude about 1 / 4 " (5 mm) so the motor can hang on them.
^ Place the upper holes of the motor assembly over the 2 mounting screws in the wall. ^ Making sure the assembly is level, drill through the 2 r emaining holes on the edge of the mounting bracket using a 1 / 8 " (3 mm) diameter bit. ^ Secure the assembly to the wall using the top 2 screws only .
Attaching the canop y ^ Hang the canopy from the motor assembly by placing the holes at the rear over the hooks on the lower edge of the assembly . Be careful not to pinch any wires. ^ Secure the canopy by guiding the 2 remaining scr ews through the locking plate and the holes in the motor assembly (see illustration).
Before connecting the appliance read the "W arning and Safety Instructions" and the "Electrical data" sections. Electrical connection ^ Plug the connectors on the canopy into the corresponding r eceptacles left and right of the motor assembly .
The shields will protect the finish of the extension during the rest of the installation. Once the installation is complete these shields can be removed. ^ Peel off the backing fr om the tape on the protective shields. ^ Stick the shields on the sides of the chimney extension (see illustration).
^ Secure the chimney to the motor assembly and lower retaining plate with the remaining scr ews. ^ Remove the grease filters. ^ Adjust the angle of the canopy by tightening the screw located on its interior . T urn the screw clockwise to raise the canopy and counter -clockwise to lower it.
, W ARNING Danger of toxic fumes. Gas cooking appliances release carbon mono xide that can be harmful or fatal if inhaled. The exhaust gases extracted b y the hood should be vented outside of the building onl y. Do not terminate the exhaust ducts in attics, garages, crawlspaces, etc.
– If the exhaust is ducted into an inactive flue, the air must be expelled parallel to the flow direction of the flue. Never connect an exhaust hood to an active chimney , dryer vent, vent flue, or room venting ductwork. Seek professional advice befor e connecting an exhaust hood vent to an existing, inactive chimney or vent flue.
