Operation In the “Operation” section you will find de- tailed information on operating, maintai n- ing and caring for your vehicle. The first 1000 miles (1500 km) The more cautiously yo u treat your vehicle during the break-in period, the more satis- fied you will be with its performance later on.
Operation Driving instructions 왔 Driving instructions Drive sensibly – save fuel Fuel consumption, to a great extent, de- pends on driving habits and operating con- ditions. To save fuel you should: 앫 Keep tires at the recommended infla- tion pressures.
Operation Driving instructions Power assistance Brakes Wa r n i n g ! G The brake system requires electrical energy for operatio n. A malfunction in the ve hicle’s power supply or electrical system may impair brake sys- tem operation and switch it into its emer- gency operation mode.
Operation Driving instructions To help prevent brake disk corrosion after driving on wet road surfaces (particularly salted roads), it is advisable to brake the vehicle with considerable force prior to parking. The heat generated serves to dry the brakes.
Operation Driving instructions High-perf ormance br ake system (SL 65 AMG only) The high-performance brake system is de- signed to operate unde r the extremely high operating demands required to accommo- date the performance capabilities of the vehicle.
Operation Driving instructions Parking Tires Treadwear indicators (TWI) ar e required by law. These indicators are located in six places on the tread circumference and be- come visible at a tread depth of approxi - mately 1 / 16 in (1.6 mm), at which point the tire is considered worn and should be replaced.
Operation Driving instructions The treadwear indicator appears as a solid band across the tread. Specified tire inflati on pressures must be maintained. This applies particularly if the tires are subjected to extreme operating conditions (e.g. high speeds, heavy loads, high ambient temperatures).
Operation Driving instructions Tire tra ction The safe speed on a wet, snow covered or icy road is always lower than on a dry road. You should pay particular attention to the condition of the road whenever the outside temperatures are close to the freezing point.
Operation Driving instructions SL 500 SL 500 with Sport Package* Your vehicle is factory equipped with “W”-rated tires, which have a speed rating of 168 mph (270 km / h). An electronic speed limiter prevents your vehicle from exceeding a speed of 155 mph (250 km / h).
Operation Driving instructions Road salts and chemicals can adversely af- fect braking efficiency. Increased pedal force may become necessary to produce the normal brake effect. Depressing the brake pedal periodically when traveling at length on salt-strewn roads can bring road-salt-impaired braking efficiency back to normal.
