Insert it in to the buckle until you hear a click. 3. Adjust the belt length. • T o lengthen the belt, hold the tongue at a right angle to the webbing and pull.

The ch ild-restrai nt syst em can be hi t by a deplo ying ai r bag and mo ved violently backward resulting in se rious injury or death to the child.

The front passenger ’ s seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, an d with rear-f acing child-r estraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.

The secondary ke y will not operate this lock (page 3-2). T o clos e, use both h ands to pus h the li d down u ntil the lock snaps sh ut.

Y our v ehicle is equipped with a trun k release handle that pro vides a means of escape for child ren and adults in the e v ent they become locked inside the trunk.
3-12 Knowing Y our Mazda Doors a nd Lo cks Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F ▼ Opening the T runk Lid from the Insid e Pull the illuminated "T" shaped handle. The handle is made of material that will glo w for hours in the darknes s of the tru nk following a brief e xposure to ambient light.

Always keep the ha ndle f irmly attached to the holder an d in the recessed position. Not securing the handle this way could allow it to snag luggage in the trunk and o pen the trunk lid .

3-20 Knowing Y our Mazda Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F Security System The theft-de terrent system is desi gned to pre v ent your v ehicle or its con tents from being stol en when all t he doors, hood, and trunk lid are lock ed. If forcible entry is attempted, the system sounds the ho rn and fl ashes the hazard warning lights and headli ghts.

4-2 Before Driving Your Maz da Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F Fuel and Engine Exhaust Pr e cautions V ehicles with catalytic con ver ters must use ONL Y UNLEADED F UEL, which will reduce ex haust emissi ons and keep spar k plug fo uling t o a minimum. Fuel with a lo wer rating could caus e the emission control system to lose ef fectiv eness.

4-7 Before Driving Your Mazda Driving T ips Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F When dri ving o n ice or in water , snow , mud, sand , or similar hazard: • Be cautious and allo w e xtra distance for braki ng.
4-8 Before Driving Your Maz da Dri vi ng T i ps Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F • Carry emer genc y gear , including tire chains, windo w scraper , flares, a small shov el, jumper cab les, and a small bag of sand or salt. Ask a Mazda dealer to perf orm the follo wing precau tions: • Hav e the prop er ratio of antifreeze in the radiator .

5-6 Driving Your Maz da Starting and Dri ving Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F Electro nic brake f or ce distribution syst em wa rn ing If the electronic brak e for ce distrib ution control unit determines that some components are operating incorrectly , the control unit may turn th e brake s ystem warni ng light on.
5-7 Driving Your Mazda Starting and Driving Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F ▼ ABS W arni ng Light The warning light stays on for a fe w seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. If the ABS warning light stays on while you ’ re dri vi ng, the ABS co ntrol unit has detected a system malfun ction.

P (Park) P locks the transaxle and pre vents the front wheels from rotatin g. R (Rev erse) In position R, the vehicle moves only backwar d.
5-9 Driving Your Mazda Starting and Driving Form No. 8Q47-EA-01F D (Driv e) D is th e norm al driving po sition. From a stop, the transaxle will autom atically shift through a 4 -gear sequence. S (Second) The S position is helpfu l when dri ving in slo w-mov ing traf f ic and when climbing a hill.
