Black plate (14,1) Seat Precaution WARNING Make sure the adjustable components of a seat are lo cked in place: Adjustable seats and seatbacks that are not securely locked are dangerous. In a sudden stop or collision, the seat or seatback could move, causin g injury.
Black plate (15,1) Do not place objects under the seat: The object could get stuck and cause the seat to not be fixed securely, and result in an accide nt. Do not stack cargo hi gher than the seatbacks: Stacking luggage or other cargo higher than the seatbacks is dangerous.
Black plate (16,1) CAUTION Ø When operatin g a seat, be careful not to put your hands or fingers near the moving parts of the seat or on the side trim to pr event injury. Ø When moving the seats, make sure there is no cargo in the surrounding area. If the cargo gets caught it could damage the cargo.
Black plate (17,1) Front Seat q Seat Operation Power operation Seat Slide (Manual Se at) T o move a seat forward or backward, raise the lever and slide the seat to the desired position and release the lever . Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seat is locked in place by attempting to push it forw ard and backward.
Black plate (18,1) Seat Recl ine (Manual Se at) T o change the seatback angle, lean forward slightly while raising the lever . Then lean back to the desired position and release the lever . Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seatback is locked in place by attempting to push it forw ard and backward.
Black plate (19,1) q Seat W armer í The front seats are electrica lly heated. The ignition must be switched ON. Press the seat warmer switch to illuminate the indicator light while the igni tion is switched ON. The mode changes as follow each time the seat war mer switch is pressed.
Black plate (20,1) NOTE l If the ignition is switched off while the seat warmer is operating (High, Mid or Low) and then switched ON again, the seat warmer will automatically operate at the temperature set befor e switching off the ignition. l Use the seat warmer when the engine is running.
Black plate (21,1) 4. Perform one of the following settings within 5 seconds of compl eting step 3 above: l T o program memory button 1 or 2, press and hold the button until a beep sound is heard. l T o program a key , press and ho ld the key switch until a beep sound is heard.
Black plate (22,1) NOTE l If ther e is no seat position movement, a beep is not heard. l When the ignition is switched ON, the seat position memory function does not operate unless the selector lever is in the P position (Automatic transaxle) or the parking brake is applied (Manual transaxle).

T ransporting cargo stack ed higher than the seatbacks is dangerous as visibility to the rear and side s of th e vehicle is reduced which could inter fe re with driving operations and lead to an accident.
Black plate (24,1) Head Restraints Y our vehicle is equipped with head restraints on all outboard seats and the rear center seat. The head restraints are intended to help protect you and the passengers from neck injury . WARNING Always driv e with the head restraints installed when seats are being used and make sure they are properly adjusted.
Black plate (25,1) Removal/Installation T o remove the head restraint, pull it up while press ing the stop-catch. T o install the head restraint, inser t the legs into the holes while pressing the stop- catch.
Black plate (26,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoul der belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (27,1) Have your seat belts chang ed immediately if the pretensio ner or load limiter has been exp ended: Always have an Authorized Mazda Dealer immediately inspect the front seat belt pretensioners and air bags after any collis ion.
Black plate (28,1) q Pregnant W omen and Persons with Serious Medical Conditions Pregnant women shoul d always wear seat belts. Ask your doctor for specific recommendations. The lap belt should be worn SNUGL Y AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should be worn across your shoulder proper ly , but ne ver across the stomach area.

Black plate (35,1) WARNING Use the correct size child -restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accidents and sudden stop s, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restraint system dep ending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.

Black plate (40,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child und er 12, and with rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.
Black plate (41,1) WARNING Always attac h the tether strap to the correct tether anchor position: Attaching the tether strap to the incorrect tether anchor posi tion is dangerous. In a collision, the tether strap could come off and loos en the child-restraint system.
Black plate (42,1) q Using Automatic Locking Mode Follow these instruct ions when using a child-restraint system, unless you are attaching a LA TCH-equipped child- restraint system to the rear LA TCH lower anchors. Refer to “ Using LA TCH Lower Anchor ” (page 2-35).

Black plate (48,1) Installation on rear outboard seats 1. First, adjust the front seat to allow clearance between the child-res traint system and the front seat (page 2-5). 2. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked .
Black plate (49,1) WARNING Use the tether and tether anchor only for a child-restrain t system: Using the tether or tether ancho r to secure anything but a child-restraint system is dangerou s. This could weaken or damage the tether or tether ancho r and result in injury.
Black plate (50,1) WARNING Always ro ute the tether strap between the head restraint and the seatback: Routing th e tether strap on top of the head restr aint is dangerous. In a collision the tether strap could slide off the head restraint and loosen the child-restraint system.
Black plate (51,1) Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Precautions The front and side suppl emental restraint systems (SRS) include up to 6 air bags. Please verify which kinds of air bags are equipp ed on your vehicl e by locat ing the “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indica tors.

Each front door has a side cras h sensor as a component of th e supplemental restraint system.

Black plate (91,1) q Rear Door Child Safety Locks These locks are intended to help prevent children from accide ntally opening the rear doors. Use them both whenever a child rides in the vehicl e. If you slide the child safety lock to the lock position before closing that door, the door cannot be opened from the inside.
Black plate (92,1) q Opening and Closing the T runk Lid Opening the trunk lid with Electri c trunk lid opener (With the advanced keyless function) A locked trunk lid can also be opened while the key is being carried. Press the electric trunk lid opener on the trunk lid, and then raise the trunk lid when the latch releases.
Black plate (93,1) q T runk Light The trunk light is on when the lid is open and off when it's closed. NOTE T o prevent the battery fr om being dischar ged, do not leave the trunk open for a long period when the engine is not running.
Black plate (94,1) WARNING Close the trunk lid, be sure the seat backs are latched and do not allow children to play inside the vehic le: Leaving the trunk lid open or leaving children in the vehicle with the keys is dangerous. Children could open the trunk lid and climb inside res ulting in possible injury or death from heat exposure.
Black plate (95,1) Fuel and Engine Exhaust Precautions q Fuel Requirements V ehicles with catalytic converters or oxy gen sensors must use ONL Y UNLEADED FUEL, which wi ll reduce exhaust emi ssions and keep spark plug fouling to a minimum. Y our Mazda will perform best with fuel listed in the table.
Black plate (96,1) q Emission Control System Y our vehicle is equipped with an emission control system (the catalytic converter is part of this syst em) that enables your vehicle to compl y with existing exhaust emi ssions requirements.
Black plate (97,1) q Engine Exhaust (Carbon monoxide) WARNING Do not drive your vehic le if you smell exhaust gas in side the vehicle: Engine exha ust gas is da ngerous. This gas contains ca rbon monoxide (CO), which is colorless, odorless, and pois onous.
Black plate (98,1) Fuel-Filler Lid and Cap WARNING When remov ing the fuel-filler cap, loosen the cap slightly and wait for any hissing to stop. Then remove it: Fuel spray is dangerous.
Black plate (99,1) CAUTION (U.S.A. and Canada) If the check fuel cap warning light illuminates, the fuel- filler cap may not be properly installed. If th e warning ligh t illuminates , park your vehicle safely off the right-of-way, remove the fuel-filler cap and reinstall it correctly .
Black plate (100,1) Steering Wheel WARNING Never adjus t the stee ring wheel while the vehicle is moving: Adjusting the steering wheel while the vehicle is moving is da ngerous. Moving it can very easily ca use the driver to abruptly turn to th e left or right.
Black plate (101,1) Mirrors Before driving, adjust the inside and outside mir rors. q Outside Mirrors WARNING Be sure to look over your shoulder before changin g lanes: Changing lanes without takin g into account th e actual distance of the vehicle in the convex mirror is dangerous.
Black plate (102,1) Driver's side auto-dimmi ng door mirror í The movem ent of the auto-dimmi ng door mirror is interlocke d with the auto- dimming rearview mirror in the interior to automatically reduce glare from rear on- coming v ehicles. Refer to Rearview Mirror on page 3-30.
Black plate (103,1) Press the OFF button ( ) to cancel the automatic dimming function. The indicator light will turn off. T o reactivate the automatic dimming function, press the ON button ( ).
Black plate (104,1) Power Windows The ignition must be swi tched ON for the power wi ndows to operate. WARNING Make sure the opening is clear before closing a window: Closing power windo ws are dangerous. A perso n's hands, head, or even neck could be caught by the window and resul t in serious injury or even death.
Black plate (105,1) Close Open Auto-opening/closing T o fully open the window automatically , press the switch completely down. T o fully close the window automati cally , pull the switch completely up. T o stop the window partw ay , pull or press the switch in the opposite direction and then release it.
Black plate (106,1) NOTE l Depending on driving conditions, a closing power window could stop and start opening when the window feels a shock that is similar to something blocking it. In the event the jam-safe function activates and the power window cannot be closed automatically , pull and hold the switch fully and the window will close.
Black plate (107,1) Power wind ow system initialization procedure If the battery was disco nnected during vehicle mai ntenance, or for other reason s (such as a switch conti nues to be operated after the window is full y open/closed), the window will not fully open and close automatically .

Black plate (1 10,1) q Slide Operation T o fully open automatically , momentarily press the tilt/slide switch in the backward direction. T o fully close automatically , momentarily press the tilt/slide switch in the forward direction. T o stop sliding partway , press the tilt/slide switch.
Black plate (11 1,1) q Sunshade The sunshade can be opened and closed by hand. The sunshade opens automatically when the moonroof is opened, but must be closed by hand. Sunshade CAUTION Ø The sunsh ade does not tilt. To avoid damag ing the sunshade, do not push up on it.
Black plate (1 12,1) Modification and Add-On Equipment Mazda cannot guarantee the immobilizer and the theft-deterrent systems' operation if the system have been modified or if any add-on equipme nt has been install ed.
