i Warnings and Cautions Caution: Use this radar at your own risk. This radar was designed for use as a navigation aid. I t should not be used for purposes that require precise measurements of direction, distance, topograph y or location.
ii switching off the radar. Before t ouching the magnetron or any high voltage components, ground them with a clip lead. There are no inte rnal connections or adjust- ments necessary for installation. WARNING: Microwave Radiation Hazard The microwave ener gy radiated by a rad ar antenna is harmful to humans, especially to the eyes.
Section 1: Introduction Thank you for purchasing this Lowrance Radar with the RIM 200 radar interface module. Your radar consists of three m ain components: the radar scanner unit, a display unit (s old separately) and the RIM 200 radar interface module which c onnects the scanner unit an d the display unit.
rate targets at a dist ance. The critical fact ors are the antenn a's beam width and side lobe level. Typicall y, a radar antenn a will radiate a tightly focused b eam from the fr ont of the array. The longer the a n- tenna array is, the narrower th e beam width.
False echoes Sometimes radar will d isplay targets on screen th at do not exist in the real world. You should be awar e of how and why this happens. A. Ghost echoe s Sometimes one large object very near your boat will appear as two dif- ferent targets onscre en.
Radar interference If another b oat's radar is op erating on th e same frequ ency as yours, it can create interfer ence on your display . The interferenc e usually appears as spira l or radial patterns. This ra- dar has a n interfere nce reje ction contr ol to elimi nate inte rference.
The scanner unit should be m ounted on the center line of your vess el in a location that has an un obstructed view forward a nd is as clear as pos- sible the rest of th e way around the unit.
The recommended m ounting surface thickness is 3/8" to 1/2" (9 mm to 13 mm). If the mounting s urface is thin , a doubler should b e added. If it is thicker, longer bolts must be purchased. WARNING: The scanner will be damaged if bolts penetrate more than 9/16" (15 mm).
Section 2: Radar Installation Preparations Unpack your new radar and check the contents against the packing list. Do not remove the cover from the unit. There are no conn ections or ad- justments inside the un it needed for installati on or operation.
8. Secure the ca ble near the sc anner to support th e weight of the cable and prevent strain on the watertight cable sea l. If the cable is to pass through tubing or a bulkhead, pr otect the unfinished end. Do not use the unfinished wires or fabric braid to pull th e cable.
Section 3: RIM 200 Installation The RIM 200 will replac e the power cable that ca me with your display unit. Early RIM 200 m odels have four cab les branching out from the cable plug.
