6 Installing the EtherFast ® 10/100 Compact USB Network Adapter The follo wing instr uctions will help you connect y our computer to your net- w ork through your EtherF ast ® 10/100 Compact USB Netw ork Adapter .
8 4. Select Sear ch f or the best driv er for y our device (Recommended) and click the Next button. 5. Select Specify a location to f ind the cor rect driv er and type D: in the f ield pro vided.
10 8. W indows will f inish installing the software onto y our PC. Click the Finish button to continue. 9. When asked if y ou w ant to restart your PC, remo ve the driv er CD-ROM and click the Ye s button. If W indows does not ask y ou to restar t y our PC, click the Start button.

16 Enabling File Sharing 1. Double-click the My Computer icon. A windo w of a v ailab le disk dri ves will appear . 2. Right click the driv e or folder that you w ant to mak e a vailab le to other users. 3. Click on the Sharing button, follo wed b y the Sharing tab.
Enabling Printer Sharing 1. Double-click the My Computer icon. 2. Double-click the Printer s folder . A windo w of a vailab le printers will appear . 3. Right click the printer that you w ant to share with other users. Then, click the Sharing button, follo w ed by the Sharing tab .

28 Windows 2000 Installation and Setup Overview After connecting the Compact USB Network Adapter to your computer , follo w these instructions to install the hardware de vice dri ver . If at any time during the installation you encounter prob lems, consult the T roubleshooting section.

32 T roubleshooting 1. Windows doesn't detect new hardwar e with the Compact USB Network Adapter hardware connected, or it continues to detect the adapter each time I restart the PC. • Y ou might not hav e cor rectly or securel y installed the adapter into your computer .
• Click on the NetBIOS tab . Put a check next to I want to ena ble NetBIOS o ver IPX/SPX and click OK . Click OK again. • After W indo ws f inishes copying the appropriate f iles, restar t your comput- er . When y ou’ ve retur ned to the desktop, open Netw ork Neighborhood or m y network places and look for the other PCs on y our network.
36 3. If the Conf iguration box has a component called Dial-Up Adapter , skip for- ward to step 5. If it doesn’ t, continue with step 4. 4. Remo ve any instance of the name Linksys in the bo x. This includes IPX/SPX…Linksys , NetBEUI…Linksys , and TCP/IP…Linksys .
38 7. Return to the W indo ws Control Panel. Double-click the System Icon. The System Properties window will appear . Click on the Device Manager Ta b . 8. If Networ k Adapters is listed , then expand it by clicking on the plus [+] sign and remo ve all de vices with the name Linksys in its description.
40 5. Right-click on Linksys EtherF ast 10/100 Compact USB Networ k Adapter . A context menu should open (see the e xample belo w). 6. Select Uninstall... from the menu that appears and click the OK button. 7. The Networ k Adapters category should no longer be listed.

Under the “Netw ork Protocol” box, highlight IPX/SPX-compatible pr otocol and click the OK button. If y ou’ ve added all the components you require, click the OK button again.
