Introd uction 1 1.0 I NTRODUCTION The Liebert XDK provides the dissip ation of heat loads up to 17kW. The server rack is closed to the in stallation area, that means no heat lo ad will dissipate to th e envi- ronment. (see also chapter 2.) The cooling is prov ided by a closed cooling sy stem via an air-t o-water heat exchanger.
Operating Co nditions 2 2.0 O PERATING C ONDITIONS 2.1 Proper Application The XDK is a water-cooled enclosure and is intend ed for removing heat from electronic equipment inside the ca binet. The cooling system in the cabinet is thermally independent of the room air.
Description 3 3.0 D ESCRIPTION 3.1 General function The modular design facilitates the installation of 19-inch-wide equipment of varying depth . Heat produced b y equipment in the cabinet, s uch as servers, is removed by the cold water system integrated into the server cabinet.
Description 4 3.2 Principle of Cooling Operation Figure 2 Cooling airflow , side view Air that has been heated by the servers to 95°F (35°C), for example, is circulated to a specially designed air/water h eat exchanger by high -performance fans. The heated air is c ooled to 68-77°F (20-25°C) and fed to the front of the server .

Description 6 3.3 Control The server cabinet tempe rature is co ntrolled by the fan control board A temperature sensor continuously measures the temp erature of the server cabinet (server feed air). The air circulation flow rate is cont rolled by the fan speed according to the current thermal load.
Description 7 3.4.1 Function Front and rear door are kept closed with two electr omagnets. The door will be pushed open smoothly by a gas pressure spring if po wer to the electromagnets fails. If the doors are open ed, the thermal lo ad can escape into the room, preventing the servers from over- heating.
Description 8 3.4.3 Manual Closing 1. Press LED switch for electromagnet activation 2. The LED lights up 3. Push door e venly shut. Both magnetic locks must latch.
Equipment Inspec tion, Handling And S torage 9 4.0 E QUIPME NT I NSPECTIO N , H ANDLING A ND S TORAGE Upon arrival of the unit, and before unpacking, veri fy that the la beled equi pment matches the bill of lading. Inspect all items for damage, either visibl e or concealed.
Equipment Inspec tion, Handling And S torage 10 4.3 Storage • If the XDK’s packag ing has been removed, cover i t with tarpaulins to protect aga inst particulates, such as sand and dust, and fro m moisture. • Keep storage temperature between -22°F and 104°F ( -30°C and +40°C).
Installation an d Commissioning 11 5.0 I NST ALLATION AND C OMMISSIONING 5.1 Preparation for Inst allation To achieve good air circula tion, ensure that there is no packagin g material or other equipm.
Installation an d Commissioning 12 5.3 W ater Connectio n The heat exchange r can be pulled out for servicing Water pipes should be connected so that the heat exchanger can be pulled ou t when the connection is undone.
Installation an d Commissioning 13 Figure 8 Heat exchanger Figure 9 Heat exchanger connection Liebert recommends insulating the co ld wat er pipes with waterp roof insulation to pr event condensa- tion and losses.
Installation an d Commissioning 14 Figure 10 Bottom plate with cutout s Cable and pi pe openings must b e seal ed air-tight on completion of work. 5.4 Condensed W ater Connection If the XDK is operated below dew point, condense d water may occur.
Installation an d Commissioning 15 The condensate drain is not pressurize d; a condensate pump can be used. 5.5 Electrical Connection The wiring diagram is enclosed in the unit. As soon as all prepa rations for installati on have been made, you can start electrical i nstallation.
Servicing and Mainten ance 16 6.0 S ERVICING AND M AINTENANCE 6.1 General Inspection on Fans—Annual • Check for unusual bearing noises. (C heck for excessive bearing play.) 6.1.1 Fan Replacement The expected service life is approximate ly 40,000 operating hours at a temperature of 40°C (104°F).
Servicing and Mainten ance 17 Reinstall the fan by reversing the steps to remove the fan. 1. Tighten the fan fastening bolts. 2. Connect the power supply cable to the fan.
Servicing and Mainten ance 18 6.3 Replacing the Heat Exchanger Figure 12 Heat exchanger replacement Reinstall the heat exchanger by reve rsing the reverse order of removal. NOTE Regularly check the condensed wa ter drain and clean if necessary Step 1: Lif t the air duct off the flange to remove it.
Dismantling and Disposal 19 7.0 D ISMANTLING AND D ISPOSAL The XDK may be dismantled by qual ified personnel o nly. Disconnect the unit from the external water circuit by closing the shutoff valv es and drain the unit’s water circuit. Transport the unit a s described in 4.
Water Purity Requirements 20 8.0 W ATER P URITY R EQUI REMENT S To ensure the maximum service life of the air/water heat exchange rs, water must comply with the VGB water regulations (VGB-R 455 P) . The water used must be soft en o ugh to prevent deposits, but it must not be so soft that he at exchanger corrosion occurs.
