1 I MPORT ANT S AFETY I NSTRUCTIONS SA VE THESE INSTRUCTIONS This manual co ntains importan t instructions tha t should be fo llowed du ring the install ation and maintenance of the Liebert St atic Transfer Swi tch 2 Power Distribution Unit (STS2/PDU).
2 A thorough equipment inspec tion and supervis ed start-up by qualif ied service personnel are strongly recommended at these times: 1. Before unit is placed into service for the first time 2.
Unpacking and Inspection s 3 1.0 U NP ACKING AND I NSPECTIONS A high-quality installation begi ns on the recei ving dock. The STS2/PDU and its packaging should be inspected when the unit is delive red. If the packaging is not da maged, unp ack the unit and conduct- ing internal inspection before begi nning the instal lation process.
Unpacking and Inspection s 4 1.2.1 Handling Considerations The STS2/PDU is bolted to a wood shipping pallet to allow handling by forkli ft equipment or a pallet jack. Check the unit size and weight. Refer to the cabine t drawings furnished with the unit for size and weight.
Location Cons iderations 5 2.0 L OCATION C ONSIDERATIONS The STS2/PDU should be placed in a clean, cool and dry location. The 250A unit without an output cabinet requires only fron t access for installation and maintena nce.
Location Cons iderations 6 2.4 Altitude The standard units are designed for full load operation up to 4000 feet (1200m) abov e sea level. See Figure 1 for recommended deratings for altitu des greater than 4000 feet ( 1200m).
Locating The STS2/PDU 7 3.0 L OCATING T HE STS2/PDU This section provides instru ctions for leveling the STS2/P DU and anchoring the unit to the floor, should that be required. 3.1 Anchoring the Unit to the Floor The STS2/PDU can be anchored to th e concrete floor to ensure stabili ty for the unit in the event of seismic activity.
Power and Con trol Wiring 8 4.0 P OWER AND C ONTROL W IRING All power and control wiri ng must be installed by a licensed, qualif ied electr ician. All power a nd con- trol wiring must comply with the National Electric al Code and all applicable local codes.

Power and Con trol Wiring 11 4.2 System Grounding Equipment grounding—Groundin g is primarily for equipment and personnel safe ty, although proper grounding also enhances equip ment performance. All input and o utput powe r feeds must include an equipment grounding mean s as required b y the NEC and local codes.
Power and Con trol Wiring 12 4.5 Power Supply The STS2/PDU is supplied with red undant power supplies that are designed to operate from a voltage range of 200V to 600V. The unit is set at the f act ory to match the nameplat e voltage. Fie ld adjust- ments are not necessary.
Output Power Wiri ng 13 5.0 O UTPUT P OWER W IRING The STS2/PDU standard model is provided with a ci rcuit breaker for connect i ng to the load or a remote distribution cabine t.
Options 14 6.0 O PTIONS This section discusses th e options available for th e STS2/PDU. The communicat ions options are also discussed in 12.0 - Commun ication Interfa ces . 6.1 Programmable Relay Board The programmable relay board (PRB) provides a means to trigger an external device when an event occurs in the STS2/PDU.
Options 15 6.3 Comms Board The Comms Board provides a communi cation interface to Liebert Site Scan, site monitoring product and/or an external or interna l mo dem. SiteLink-12 or SiteLink-4 is required for SiteScan to communi- cate with the STS2/PDU.
Options 16 6.6 Remote Source Selection The Remote Source Selection allows the preferred input source to be chosen from a remote location. A user supplied normally open dry cont act allows the user to remotely se lect a source to be the preferred source in the same process as th e local source transfer selection.

Theory of Operati on 72 9.0 T HEORY OF O PERATION 9.1 General Description The STS2/PDU contains all the equipment necessary to prevent an interruptio n in power flow to the AC load, shoul d your primary source fail.
Theory of Operati on 73 9.1.4 Emergency T ransfer To ensure that power remains connected to the lo ad, the STS2/PDU automatically performs an emer- gency transfer from one input sou rce to the other when an outage occurs on the existing source.
Theory of Operati on 74 Firmware The operator interface enables yo u to monitor the STS2/PDU, to configure setpoints for transfers, monitor system parameters and acce ss event and history logs. The firmw are is accessible through the LCD touch screen or the RS-232 in terface.

Operating Instru ctions 78 10.4 Maintenance Byp ass The STS2/PDU is equipped with two ke y-interlocked, bypass break ers, CB4 and CB5, to all ow man- ual bypass of the switch electronics for either input source in the even t of switch failure or for mainte- nance of the switch.

Alarms and Faults 82 11 . 0 A LARMS AND F AULT S Alarms and faults are events that are triggered wh en the operation o f the Static Transfer Switch 2 Power Distribution Unit f alls outside of the define d parameters. These events can also be trig gered by: user actions, such as changing configurations, cl earing log s, etc .
Alarms and Faults 83 1 1.2 Event and History Logs The system tracks events through the Events Log and tracks significant ev ents through the History Logs. These logs allow you to quickly spot trends or diagnose problems that the unit may ha ve had. Both logs are written in nonvolatile memory.
Alarms and Faults 84 1 1.2.2 History Log When a designated major a larm occurs , the History Status buffer is froz en, ca pturing 64 sequen tial frames before and after the alarm condition. When the Histor y Status buffer is frozen, a History Log is created.

Communication Interfaces 87 12.0 C OMMUNICATION I NTERFACES The STS2/PDU monitoring system offe rs several choices for communications. The RS-232 termi nal port is stan dard on all units. The po rt is inside the front doo r, to the left of the touch screen front panel mounti ng as shown in Figure 55 .
Communication Interfaces 88 12.1 Using the RS-232 Port The RS-232 port is configure d with a baud rate of 9600 wi th 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, No Parity and no hardware handshaking. 12.1.1 Connecting and Using a T erminal An RS-232 connection can be used to connect the STS2/PDU to either a terminal or a PC running termi nal emulation software.
Communication Interfaces 89 12.1.2 Configuring the STS2/PDU via the T erminal The SPT command is used to configure the systems setpoints. The SVT sy ntax for the setpoints con- sists for four parameters: SPT [group] [item] [val ue] where the parameters are: • SPT — is the terminal command that is used to configure setpoints.

Checking the bits list under Options_1 on page 92 , bits 7 and 0 each must be set to 1 to indicate that these options are installed.

T ouch Screen Display 96 13.0 T OUCH S CREEN D ISPLAY The STS2/PDU can be configured with a Color Graphi cal LCD touch screen disp lay that allows you to quickly check the status of t he unit and id entify problems. A touch screen LCD is available through the front of the STS2/PDU.
T ouch Screen Display 97 13.2 Menu Overview The touch screen menu provides access to config uration settings and more device information. The CONFIG (C onfiguration) and LOGS menus pro vide multiple choi ces through pop-up me nus. The SOURCE XFER menu selection allows you to se lect the preferred source .

T ouch Screen Display 100 Event Masks The STS2/PDU gathers, processes and reports faults and alarms, collectively referred to below as events. The Event Mask dialog box allows you to se t the system’s response for specific alarms and faults that are generated.
T ouch Screen Display 101 User Settings The User Settings choice allows you to adjust the user-accessible switch setting s. Access is limi ted to qualified personnel via system security. To access the User Setti ngs dialog box: 1. Select CONFI G. 2. Select USER SETTINGS fr om the pop-up menu.

Select the PDU button in the System Options wi ndow (see Figure 74 ). This opens the PDU Options window, shown below in Figure 75 .
T ouch Screen Display 113 13.7.1 Logs Two types of logs are kept by the STS2/PDU: Ev ent Log and History Log. Event Log The Event Log tracks the alarms and faults of the STS2/P DU. See 11.0 - Alarms and Faults fo r more information on these events and see 11.
T ouch Screen Display 114 To use the History Log: 1. Select LOGS from the menu bar to open the Logs menu. 2. Select either HISTORY LOG 1 or HISTORY LO G 2 from the menu. 3. Select th e appropriate buttons to replay the log: • Select PREV to go to the previous frame in the sequence.
Specifications 115 14.0 S PECIFICATIONS 14.1 System Configuration The STS2/PDU can be set in several different co nfig urations, according to th e model and lo cation. The configuration is set at the factory and does not need to be changed by the customer.
