3 GB DDR-43 Plus Sound Syste m fe atures The Sangea n D DR-43 Plus Digital Sound System provides the following ra nge of fe atures in a n attractive compa ct unit: Radio f or DAB+ a nd FM (with RDS) broadca sts. Audio CD player with tra ck search a nd progra mming fa cility (can also play CD-R, CD-RW discs).

7 GB Re mote control battery re place ment 1. Remove the battery cover on the rear of your remote control by a pplying pressure to the catch in the direction shown by the arrow in the diagra m, a nd then lifting the cover . 2. Insert 2 x AAA size batteries into the compartment.
8 Using the touch panel The DDR-43 Plus sound system ha s a stylish touch pa nel instea d of conventional buttons. T o operate the buttons simply touch the button area with the tip of a finger for about hal f a second.
9 GB Using the sound syste m for the f irst tim e 1. Pla ce your sound system on a flat surfa ce. 2. Fully extend the telescopic aerial. The aerial should be fully extended a nd positioned vertically f or optimum reception.
10 Operating your sound syste m - DAB+ 1. Fully extend the telescopic aerial. If your sound system is in sta ndby mode, press the On / Sta ndby button to switch it on. 2. Press a nd relea se the Ra dio button to select DAB+ mode. The display will show “DAB” for a few seconds.
11 GB Sele cting a station - DAB+ 1. When the unit is in DAB+ mode the upper line of the text display normally shows the na me of the station currently tuned. 2. Repeatedly pre ss the T uning Up or Down buttons to scroll through the list of available stations on the lower line of the text display.
12 Display mode s - DAB+ When in DAB+ mode your radio ha s a ra nge of display option s. 1. Press the Info button to cycle through the various modes. Displays scrolling text message s such a s artist/tra ck na me, phone in number , etc. Displays signal strength for the station being listened to.
13 GB Display mode s - DAB+ cont. Finding new stations - DAB+ As time pa sses new station s may become availa ble. T o find new stations proceed a s follows: 1. With the unit in DAB+ mode (see page 10) press a nd rele a se the Auto-tune button. The display will then show “Local sca nning”.
14 Ma nual T uning - DAB+ Ma nual tuning allows you to tune directly to the various DAB+ cha nnels. 1. Press a nd relea se the Menu button so that the display shows “Station list”. 2. Press the T uning Up or Down buttons until “Ma nual tune” a ppe ars on the display .
15 GB Station order setup - DAB+ Y our radio ha s 3 station order settings from which you ca n choose. The station order settings are, alpha numeric, ens emble a nd valid. Note: The default station order setting is alpha numeric. 1. Press a nd rele a se the Menu button so that “Station list” a ppears on the display.
16 Station order setup - DAB+ - cont. Ens e mble Press the T uning Up or Down buttons until “Ensemble” a ppears on the display . This mode orga nises the station list by DAB+ multiplex. 4. Press a nd relea se the Select button to sele ct the station order setting required.
17 GB Software version - DAB+ only The software version display cannot be altered a nd is provided for reference only. 1. T o view the DAB+ software version installed in your sound syste m, press a nd relea se the Menu button so that “Station list” a ppears on display.
18 Dyn a mic Ra nge Control (DRC) settings - DAB+ only DRC ca n ma ke quieter sounds ea sier to he ar when your ra dio is used in a noisy environment. This function is only for the DAB+ waveba nd. 1. Press the On / Sta ndby button to switch on your sound system.
19 GB Operating your ra dio - Se arch tuning FM 1. Fully extend the telescopic aerial. 2. Press the On / Sta ndby button to switch on your sound system.
20 M a nual tuning - FM 1. Press the On / Sta ndby button to switch on your sound system. 2. Press a nd relea se the Radio button to sele ct the FM ba nd a nd fully extend the T elescopic aerial f or optimal FM re ception. 3. Press the T uning Up or Down buttons to tune to a station.
21 GB Display mode s - FM Y our sound system ha s four display options f or FM ra dio mode. In addition to the audio content of the progra mme, data is broadca st using the Radio Data System (RDS). R DS is a system in which inaudible digital information is added to the normal FM radio tra nsmission.
22 Pre setting station s Y ou may store your preferred DAB+ and FM ra dio stations to the pre set station memories (1 to 10). The procedure f or setting presets a nd using them to tune stations is the sa me for FM a nd DAB+ modes, a nd is described below .
23 GB Compa ct discs Use only Digital Audio CDs which have the symbol. Use only full size CDs (12cm dia meter) with the sound system. Mini CDs (8cm di a meter) are not compatible with the player a nd may ja m the CD mechanism. Never write on a CD or attach a ny sticker to the CD.
24 Inserting a CD Ensure the CD player is empty before inserting a disc. If there is a disc in the player then the CD indicator will be lit. If you ca nnot insert a disc, press the CD Eject button to remove the CD currently in the player. 1. Press the On / Sta ndby button to switch on your sound system.
25 GB 4. T o stop play , press the Stop button. The total number of CD tra cks a nd the stop symbol ( ) will be displayed. If you put the unit into sta ndby mode without pressing the Stop button, then the next time the unit is switched on it will return to the previously played tra ck.
26 Se arch function 1. While the CD is playing, press and hold the Fa st-forward or Rewind buttons. Relea se the button when the desired part of the tra ck is rea ched. Re pe at a single trac k 2. While the CD is playing, press the Repeat button until the repeat single tra ck symbol ( ) a ppears in the display .
27 GB CD tra ck progra mming In addition to playing of complete CDs, selected tra cks, or a ra ndom sele ction, the CD player allows you to progra mme a sequence of up to 20 tra ck s to be played in whatever order you choose. 1. With the unit in CD mode a nd with a CD inserted, ma ke sure that the CD is stopped (press the Stop / Select button).
28 MP3 / WMA CD Mode The DD R-43 Plus is able to play CD-R a nd CD-RW discs containing MP3 a nd WMA files. It is a ssumed in this section that a file is equivalent to a CD tra ck. An MP3 / WMA CD may not contain more tha n 51 1 files a nd not more tha n 99 folders.
29 GB Playing a n MP3 / WMA CD 1. Press the Play / Pause button to start playing from the CD. The display will show the first f older a nd f ile numbers - “01” a nd “001”. 2. T o pause playing press the Play / Pause button. T o resume playing press the Play / Pause button again.
30 Select a specific file 1. For file numbers 1-9 simply press the corresponding digit button. For file numbers ten a nd a bove pre ss the required digits using the 10/0 button to enter the digit zero. 2. If the file number entered exceeds the number of playable files on the CD, then the la st file will be played.
31 GB iPod docking Y our DDR-43 Plus sound system ha s a n iPod dock facility which allows you to play digital audio files a nd video soundtrack s held on your iPod directly. The DDR-43 Plus use s the U niversal Dock Connector developed for use with iPods.
32 Navigating your iPod 1. Use the Menu button on the remote control to navigate to higher level menus on your iPod. 2. Use the Folder Up or Down buttons on the remote control a s required to move up a nd down a menu screen on your iPod. 3. Press the Select button to choose the highlighted on screen menu item.
33 GB Se arch function 1. While the iPod is playing, press a nd hold the Fa st-forward or Rewind buttons. 2. Relea se the button when the desired part of the item is rea ched. Re pe at a single file 1. While the iPod is playing, press the Repeat button until the repeat single file symbol a ppears in the iPod display .
34 Alarms Y our DDR-43 Plus sound system ha s two alarms which can ea ch be set to wa ke you to DAB+, FM radio, CD, iPod or buzzer alarm. The alarms may be set while the unit is in sta ndby mode or while playing. 1. Before setting a n alarm ensure that the clock ti me is set (see page 37).
35 GB 8. Press the T uning Up or Down buttons to choose the required alarm mode a nd then press the Select button to confirm the setting. Ea ch alarm ca n be set to a ny of the following modes: BUZZER.
36 Ca ncelling alarms 1. While a n alarm is sounding it can be ca ncelled by pressing the On / Sta ndby button. 2. T o cancel a n alarm at a ny other ti me, enter the alarm setup menu a nd set the alarm On/Off option to “Off”. See steps 1 - 5 on page 34.
37 GB Setting the clock ma nually The DDR-43 Plus will automatically set its clock when tuned to a DAB+ radio station or to a n FM station which is broadca sting the time via RDS. If the clock ca nnot be set using DAB+ or FM radio then you will need to set the clock ma nually bef ore the alarm function ca n be used.
38 6. Press the T uning Up or Down buttons until the desired year is set. Keep the button pressed to cause the digits to cha nge more quickly . 7. Press a nd relea se the Select button to con. rm the year setting. The month will fla sh on the display .
39 GB Sta ndby brightne ss control The brightness of the display when the unit is in sta ndby mode may be adjusted. If you use the unit in the bedroom, you may prefer a lower sta ndby brightne ss level tha n the sta ndard setting.
40 Equalizer function The sound on your sound system ca n be adjusted to suit your personal ta ste for the material that you are listening to. The DD R-43 Plus ha s six preset equalizer modes. Alternatively , you may set the treble a nd ba ss levels to your own preferences.
41 GB Ba ss control 5. Press the Equalizer button to cycle through the modes until “Ba ss” a ppears on the upper line of the text display . The current ba ss setting will be shown on the lower line. 6. T o adjust the ba ss setting press a nd relea se the T uning Up or Down buttons until the desired level is displayed.
42 Auxiliary input socket A 3.5mm stereo Auxiliary Input socket is provided on the rear of your sound system to permit a n audio signal to be fed into the unit from a n external audio device such a s iPod, MP3 or CD player. 1. Repeatedly press a nd relea se the Ra dio button until “AUX IN” is displayed.
43 GB He adphone socket A 3.5mm stereo Headphone Socket is provided on the rear of your sound system for use with headphones. Inserting a plug automatically mutes the intern al loudspe a kers. IMPORT ANT : Excessive sound pressure from earphone s a nd he a dphones ca n cause hearing loss.
44 T ouch pa nel sen sitivity control The sensitivity of the touch pa nel may be adjusted. The default setting will normally be found to provide satis fa ctory operation, however , the touch pa nel system may re spond differently depending upon the moisture of the skin.
45 GB Syste m re set If your radio fails to operate correctly, or some digits on the display are missing or incomplete carry out the following procedure. 1. Press a nd hold the Menu button so that the display shows “Set Brightness” on the lower line of the text display.
46 Cautions Do not allow this sound system to be exposed to water , stea m or sa nd. Do not leave your sound system where excessive heat could cause da mage.
47 GB If at any time in the future you should need to dispose of this product please note that: Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste. Please recycle where facilities exist. Check with your Local Authority or retailer for recycling advice.
