For e xample , y ou may w ant to send all P ostScript emulati on job s to the network inter face and all PCL emulati on jo bs to the par allel interf ace.
Langua g es 5-3 Sniffing Sniffin g is : • Enabled when any End- of- Job point occurs. • Disab led when a SIC or PJL comm and within a v alid pr inter la nguage is receiv ed. The printer e xamines the recei ved data str eam , attempts to d eter mine the type of data stream, a nd automaticall y s witches to the pr oper language .
Memory 6-1 CHAPTER 6: Flash Memor y and Disk Flash memor y and disk de vices are used to store permanent f onts, macros , and symbol sets . The disk de vi ce is also used to buff er print jobs, collate large jobs , and store j ob statistics .
Memory 6-2 Resour ce Data Collection (Do wnload T a r g et) Use the Resource Data Collecti on (Download T arget) mode to sa ve the f ollo wi ng inf orm ation to flash memory or disk: • P ermanent bi.
Memory 6-3 Storing Resou r ces on Flash Mem ory o r Disk Complete the f ollo wing steps to downlo ad resources to flash memory or disk using the printer operator panel, MarkVision Pro fessional , or a PJL command. 1 Set the download target to flash memory or disk.
Memory 6-4 Example of Directory The Directory that prints appears simil ar to the one below . An e xplanation of the par ts of the Director y f ollows the e xample. Optional Font Memory Expression used t o indi cat e flash memor y or disk is insta ll ed.
Memory 6-5 Pa r t N u m b e r P ar t Number as it is stored in the flash memory card header . If the flash memor y is f or matted by the printer , the par t number field is sho wn as ( none ). The par t number field f or the disk is not printed. Write Pass w or d Protecte d Indicate s the entire f l ash memor y or disk i s write-protected.
Memory 6-6 Type File types that can be stor ed on flash memor y or disk ha ve unique e xtensions . The f ollowi ng file types ar e recogniz ed by the flash f or mat used on ea r lier printer model s; the name of the file type printed in t he director y appears i n parenthesis.
Memory 6-7 Description The description field for f onts comes from the f ont header . The descripti on fi eld fo r macros or symbol s ets is b lank unless the descript ion fi el d in the fi le header is s et b y the PJL LRESOURCE command. See “Pr inter Unique L R ESOURCE V ar i ables” on page 3-52.
Memory 6-8 By using pass words , administrato rs can ensure data integ r ity and proper authorization. I f flash memor y is write pass word protected, f or ex ample, users cann ot delete e xisting f i les , format the de vice , or download ne w files to the de vice (wit hout first specifyi ng the pass wor d).
Memory 6-9 Accessing File s with P o stScript Em ulation File Naming Co n ventions F or any P ostScript em ul ation operator that re quir es a filena me par ameter , the filename can be one of the follo wing: %device%filename Specific all y ref erences a file on a pa r ticular de vice .
Memory 6-10 De vice names are case sensitiv e. The y must appear e xactly as sho wn. Each de v ice (e xcept the dis k) has one synon ym. F or e x ample , the flash memory can be ref erred to as %fla sh% or %flash1%. The name with the 1 is a uni que identifier .
Memory 6-11 The v alue of t his operator adds the e xtension .data to all filenames ref erenced when using P ostScript emulat ion file operators . T o pre v ent the .data e xtension from being added, issue the f ollo wing P ostScript emulati on command : statusdict begin false setfilenameextend end T o add the .
Memory 6-12 Device Sear ch Or der If y ou are using the P ostScript emulat ion oper ators run, file, r enam efile, status or eex ec , y ou do not need to speci f y the de vice. If you omit th e device name , de vices are searche d in t he def ault order : disk and then fl ash memory .
Memory 6-13 Note: Do not lea ve the R OM devi ce unmounted . All inter nal f onts are contained on the R OM devi ce. In the pre vious e xamples, the devmount , devdismount oper ators must be used outside t he ser ver loop .
Memory 6-14 F or minimum ac ceptable job buff ering perf or mance, th e hard disk should be abl e to read and write files at a sustained rat e of 600Kb/sec. The Le xmark hard disk option suppor ts this requi rement . Some adv antages of job buff ering include: • The printer accepts print jobs more quic kly .
Memory 6-15 Disabling Job Buffering When you disab le job b uf fering, it tak es eff ect immediately on the por t you disab led. A POR is automatically p erfo r med when job b uff ering is di sabled f or any port from the printer operator panel or throu gh MarkVision Prof essional, so the unused memor y resources can be real l ocated.
