Use To Streamline work processes by letting you qui ckly fin d and print frequently used onlin e forms directly from the printer home screen. Note: The printer must have permission to access the network folder, FTP site, or Web site where the bookmark is stored.

Note: When the pr inter so ftware and any ha rdware opt ions are installed, you may n eed to manu ally add the opt ions in the print er driver to make them a vailable for print jobs. For more information, s ee “Updating availabl e options in the print er driv er” o n page 37 .
Use the To 5 EXT port Connect addition al devices (telephone or answerin g machine) to th e printer and the telephone li ne. Use this port i f you do n ot have a dedicated fax lin e for the printer and if this connection method is supported in your co untry or region.

Verifying printer setup When all ha rdwar e and s oftware option s are installe d and the print er is turned o n, verify that the print er is se t up correc tly by printin g the foll owing: • Menu set ting s page —Use this pa ge to veri fy that al l pr inter option s are in stall ed cor rectly.

Loading the 650 ‑ sheet duo tray The 650 ‑ s h e e t d u o t r a y ( T r a y 2 ) c o n s i s t s o f a 5 5 0 ‑ sheet tray and an integrated 100 ‑ sheet multipurpose fe eder. The tray is loaded in the same way as the 250 ‑ sheet tra y and th e op tiona l 550 ‑ sheet tray, and suppor ts th e same paper types and sizes.
Loading the multipurpose feeder 1 Push the mu ltipurpose feeder latch to the left. 2 Open the multipurpos e feeder. 3 Pull the multipurpo se feeder extender.
4 Prepare the paper fo r loading. • Flex the sheets of pap er back and forth to loosen them, an d then fan them. Do not fold or crease the pap er. Straighten the edges on a level surface. • Hold transparencies by the edges , and then fan them. Straighten the edges on a level surface.
5 Paper size indicator 6 Load the paper, and then adjust the width guide to lightly touch the edge of the paper stack. • Load paper, card stock, and transparencies with the recommended printable side facedown and the top edge entering the p rinter first.

Assigning a custom paper ty pe Using the Embedded Web Server Assign a custom pape r type n ame to a tray when linking or unlin king trays. 1 Open a Web browser, and then type the print er IP address in the ad dress field. Notes: • View the printer IP address on the printer home scr een.
Paper and specialty media guide Notes: • Make su re the paper size , type , and weig ht ar e set co rrec tly on the com puter or on t he pri nter contro l pane l. • Flex, fan, and straighten the stack of sp ecialty media before loading them . • The printer may print at a reduced speed to prevent damage to the fuser.

Tips on us ing transp arencies Print a test page o n the transparencies being con sidered for use befo re buying large quantities. • From the print er co ntrol panel , set t he pape r si ze, type, t exture, and weig ht in the Pap er me nu to m atch t he transparencies loaded in the tray.
• Use full l abel sheets. Partia l sheets may cause l abels to peel off during p rinting , resulting in a jam . Partia l sheets also conta minate th e print er and the cart ridg e with adhesive, and cou ld void t he printer a nd tone r cartri dge warranties.
Smoothness Paper sm oothnes s direct ly affec ts print quality. If pa per is to o roug h, then toner can not fuse to it p roperly. If paper is too smoot h, then it can cause paper feeding o r print qu ality issue s.
To help avoid pa per jam s and poor print quali ty: • Always us e new, unda mage d pa per. • Before loadin g paper , kno w the r ecomm ended pr inta ble sid e of t he paper . This informa tion is usuall y indica ted on the pa per pa ckag e. • Do not use paper t hat ha s been cu t or trim med by ha nd.
Storing paper Use these paper storag e guidelines to help avoid jams and uneven print quality: • For best resu lts, store paper where the tem perature is 21°C (70 °F) and the relative humid ity is 40 percent.

Use To Verify Job Expi ration Print one c opy of a print job and hold the r emaining c opies. It lets you examine if the firs t copy is satisfa ctory or not. The print job is automa tically dele ted from the printer memory when al l copies are printed.

Resolution This opti on lets yo u adjust the out put qual ity of your e-ma il. Increasing the image resolution increases the e-mail file size and the tim e neede d to s can your origina l docum ent .
Page Setup This option lets you chang e the follo wing sett ings: • Sides ( Duplex) —T his sp ec ifies if t he or igina l do cum ent is pr int ed on o nly on e si de or o n bo th si des of the p aper . This also identifies what needs to be scanned for inclusion in the e-mail.
