The factory default setting is Plain . This menu does not appears when the opti on envelope feeder is installed on the printer .

Paper Handling 1-35 Setting the Duplex Pa th T o use this function, the duplexer must be inst alled on the printer . If the paper type is set to Custom and the option duplexer is installed on the printer , you can set whether or not to enable duplex pri nting as fol lows.

Paper Handling 1-37 MP T ray Mode The MP tray can be used in either of two modes – first or cassette . The MP tray feed paper differently depending on the mode: • Cassette Mode This is the default mode. Th e MP tray acts in the same manner as other paper source.

Pagination 1-52 KIR (K yocera Image R efinement) This printer incorporates the KIR (K yocera Image Refinement) smoothing function. This function pr ovides high print quality by provid ing software enhancement of print resolution. Set the print density to 3 whe n setting the KIR mode.

Pagination 1-54 Ecoprint The Ecoprint ena bles you to reduce the amou nt of toner consumed on the page so as to save your printing costs. Y ou can set to Ecop rint mode on, as follows. (The factory defaul t setting is Off .) The Ecoprin t setting has no ef fect on the print spe ed.
Pagination 1-55 Re s o l u t i o n Proceed as follows to set the default print resolution from three ways — 300 dpi , 600 dpi , and Fast 1200 mode . The clarity of printed characters and g raphics beco mes sharper in this order . 1 Press the MENU key .
e-MPS 1-56 e-MPS e-MPS is an a bbreviation for ‘enhanced-M ultiple Printing System’ which implements the following functions that are availa ble from the printer driver: • Job R etention • Job.
e-MPS 1-57 Job Storage Job storage stores print jobs either te mporarily or permanently , or in virtual mailboxes, as you click an appropriate rad io button on the printer driver when printing from a computer .

e-MPS 1-59 Deleting a Quick Cop y J ob All quick copy jobs are automa tically de leted when the printer is turned off . If you desire to explicitly delete a stored quick cop y job, proceed as follows: 1 Follow steps 1 through 8 i n the above section to let the title of the job displayed.
e-MPS 1-60 4 Press the or key repeatedly until >Quick Copy appears followed by the user name ( Harold , in this example). The user name is assigned at printing u sing the prin ter driver . 5 Press the ENTER key. A blinking question mark ( ? ) appears before the user name.
e-MPS 1-61 Printing a Private J ob In private printing , you can specify that a job is not printed until you release the job from the operat or panel. A t sending the j ob from the application software, you sh oul d specify a 4-digit access code i n the printer driver .
e-MPS 1-62 8 Press the or key to di splay the desired job title. 9 Press the ENTER key . The ID input line ap pears. Enter the four-digit access code entered in the printer driver and press the ENTER key .
e-MPS 1-63 Printing a Stored J ob The procedure below allows you to store print jobs to the Microdrive that are frequently needed such as fax cove r pages, check lists, and order forms, for printing at any later time using the operator panel. The print jobs will not be delete d when the printe r is turned off .
e-MPS 1-64 8 Press the or key to di splay the desired job title. 9 Press the ENTER key . If you entered an access code for the printer driver , the ID input line appears. En ter the four-d igit access code entered in the printer driver and press the ENTER key .
e-MPS 1-65 Printing a Code J ob KM-NET Job Manager Install the KM-NET Job Manager soft ware from the CD -R OM supplied with the printer . T o do this, from the CD-ROM Main Menu , select Printer Utilities > Install KM-NET Job Manager . 1 Browse through W indows St ar t > Programs > KYOCERA MIT A > KM-Net > Job Manager .
e-MPS 1-66 5 Double click Model Name on the list. The jobs currently stored in the printer are shown. T o print the job, right click Job name and then click Print on the drop down list that appears. It is possible to select more than on e job at a time by right clicking a job one by one wh ile pressing the Shift key on the computer keyboard.
e-MPS 1-67 Printing a List of Code J obs If you select P ermanent Job Storage on the printer driver , you can have a List of Code Job printed using the operator panel. 1 Press the MENU key . 2 Press the or key repeatedly until e-MPS > appears. 3 Press the > key .
e-MPS 1-68 R etrie ving J obs from V ir tual Mailbo x (VMB) T o use this mode, an option Microdriv e must be inst alled in the printer . T o retrieve the jobs posted in the virtual mailbox, proceed as follo ws. 1 Press the MENU key . 2 Press the or key repeatedly until e-MPS > appears.

e-MPS 1-70 e-MPS Conf iguration Y ou can change the following pa rameters for e-MP S operation: • Maximum number of Quick Copy/Proof and Hold jobs • Maximum space assigned to temporary code jobs .
e-MPS 1-71 8 Press the or key to increase or decrease th e value at th e blinking cursor . The value can be set between 0 and 50. Use the > and < keys to move the cursor right and left. 9 When the desired maximum number of jobs is set, pres s the ENTER key .

Maximum Space Assigned to V ir tual Mailbox es This changes the Microdrive space fo r virtual ma ilboxes. Y ou can change the maximum space from 0 to 9999 (m egabytes).
Interface 1-74 Interface The printer is equipped with both a parallel and USB i nterface. Option serial interface board kit and network in terface card can also be installed. V arious printing environment parameters such as the default emulation can be changed indepently on different interfaces by using the printer’s menu selection system.

Interface 1-76 Serial Interface P arameter s This section applies to the pr inters having the option serial int erface board kit (IB-1 1) installed. The baud rate, data bits, stop bi ts, parity , and protocol for the serial interface can be set as follows: 1 Press the MENU key .
Interface 1-77 6 Press the > key . Each time the or ke y is pressed, the setting item and current setting change as sh own below . 7 Display the setting item to be changed and press the ENTER key . A question mark ( ? ) appears. The following example explains ho w to change the baud rate.
Interface 1-78 Network Interface Parameter s This section applies to the pr inters hav ing the option network card installed. T o make your printer supports TCP/IP , Net ware, and EtherT alk networks, you will n eed to install the option netw ork interfac e card in the printer and make the proper settings as explained in this section.

Operating the S torage Device 1-84 Writing Data Y ou can write data to a CompactFlash card, the Microdrive, or the RAM disk using the operator panel. When writing data to the storage device, a name is automatically assigned to th e data. The CompactFlash card or the Microdrive or the RAM dis k must be formatted.

General Guidelines 2-3 Selecting the Right P aper Laser printing is a process in volving laser light, electr ostatic discharge, toner , and heat. In addition, as the paper passes through the printer it undergoes cons iderable slidin g, bending, and twisting moti ons.
General Guidelines 2-4 Paper Size Cassettes and an MP tray are available for the paper si zes listed in the table below . The dimensional tolerances are ±0.7 mm (±0.0276 inches) for the length and width. The angle at the corners must be 90° ±0.2°.

S pecial Paper 2-8 Adhesiv e-Back ed Labels The basic rule for printing on adhesiv e labels is that the adhesive must never come into contact with any pa rt of the printer . Adhesive paper sticking to the drum or rollers will damage the printer . Be sure to feed label p aper from the MP tr ay .
S pecial Paper 2-9 The table below lists the specificati ons for adhesive label paper . Postcards F an the stack of postcards and align the edges before lo ading them in the MP tray . Make sure the postcards yo u are going to set are not curled. F eeding curled postcards may cause paper jams.

Cleaning 3-10 Cleaning the Char ger Grid The charger grid is a part located at the bottom of the charger unit, which also needs to be cleaned. Y ou should use a grid cleaner attaching it to the printer and pull out the char ger unit as instructed below .
