For this reason, laser radiation emitted inside this machine is hermetically sealed within the protective housing and external cover . Preparation before Use 2-2 Changing Network Interface Parameters This printer supports TCP/IP (IPv4), TCP/IP (IPv6), IPP , SSL Server and the IPSec protocols and Security Level. The table below shows the items required for each of the settings. Configure the printer's network parameters as appr opriate for your PC and your network environment.
2-3 Preparation before Use Network Settings This section explains the settings for when DHCP is used or when an IP Address is entered while TCP(IPv4) is selected. For details of the settings, refer to Network (Network settings) on p age 4-57 . Also, for how to use the Menu Selection System, refer to Using the Menu Selection System on page 4-7 .

2-7 Preparation before Use Inst alling Sof tware Ensure the printer is plugged in and connected to the PC bef ore installing the printer driver and utilities from the Product Library disk. Sof tware The following software can be inst alled from the provided Product Library disk.

T o print a test page, click the Print a test p age check box and select the machine. Click Finish to exit the wizard. If a system restart message appears, rest art the computer by following the screen prompts.

2-11 Preparation before Use Uninst alling the Software Perform the following procedure to delete the Software from your computer . 1 Click Start button on the Windows and then select All Programs , Kyocera , and Uninst all Kyocera Product Library to display the Uninstall Wizard.
Preparation before Use 2-12 3 Double-click OS X 10.5 or higher . 4 Double-click Kyocera OS X 10.5+ . 5 The printer driver installation program st arts up. 6 Install the printer driver as directed by the instructions in the installation sof tware. This completes the printer driver installation.
2-13 Preparation before Use 8 Click the plus symbol ( + ) to add the installed printer driver . 9 Select Default and click the item that appears in Name . Select the driver in Use and click Add . 10 Select the options available for the machine and click OK .
Preparation before Use 2-14 S t atus Monitor The S tatus Monitor monitors the printer st atus and provides an ongoing reporting function. Accessing the St atus Monitor The S tatus Monitor also start s up when printing is started. Exiting the S tat us Monitor Use either of the methods listed below to exit the S tatus Monitor .
2-15 Preparation before Use Printing Progress T ab The status of the print jobs is displayed. Select a job on the job list and it can be canceled using the menu displayed with a right-click. Paper T ray St atus T ab Information is displayed about the paper in the printer and about the amount of paper remaining.
Preparation before Use 2-16 St atus Monitor Contex t Menu The following menu is displayed when the settings icon is clicked. • Command Center RX If the printer is connected to a TCP/IP network and has it s own IP address, use a web browser to access the Command Center RX to modify or confirm the network settings.
2-17 Preparation before Use S t atus Monitor Notification Settings The S tatus Monitor settings and event list details are displayed. Select whether notification is performed when an error in the event list occurs. 1 Select Enable event notification .
Preparation before Use 2-18 Command Center RX If the machine is connected to the network, you can configure various settings using Command Center RX. This section explains how to access Command Center RX, and how to change security settings and the host name.

2-23 Preparation before Use Creating a New Custom Box Y ou can register a custom box from Command Center RX. 1 Launch your Web browser . 2 In the address or location bar , enter the machine's IP address or the host name. 3 From the Document Box menu, click Custom Box .

2-25 Preparation before Use Power On/Off Power On 1 Press the Power switch. IMPORT ANT When turning of f the power switch, do not turn on the power switch again immediate ly . Wait mor e than 5 seconds, and then turn on the power switch. Power Off 1 Make sure that the Dat a indicator is off, then press the Power switch.
Preparation before Use 2-26 Energy Saver Function Sleep For Europe When the set time (factory setting is 1 minute) elapses af ter the printer is last used, the printer automatically enters sleep mode. The message display backlight and light s turn off to minimi ze power consumption.
2-27 Preparation before Use In case of not using the printer for an exten ded period of time CAUTION Remove p aper from the cassettes and seal it in th e p aper storage bag to protect it from humidity . CAUTION If this printer will be left unused for an extend ed period (e.
Preparation before Use 2-28 Loading Paper The following explains the procedure for loading paper in the cassette and the MP tray . Loading Paper into the Cassette The cassettes can hold plain paper , recycled paper or color paper . Cassette 1 to 5 hold up to 500 sheets of pla in paper (80 g/m ² ).
2-29 Preparation before Use 4 Adjust the position of the paper wid th guides located on the left and right sides of the cassette. Press the paper wid th adjusting tab and slide the guides to the paper size required. 5 Adjust the paper length guide to the p aper size required.
Preparation before Use 2-30 If you are going to use paper that is longer than A4-R, pull the cassette out until it stops at t he back and then adjust the paper length guide to the paper size required. 6 T urn the Paper Size Dial so that the size of the paper you are going to use appears in the Paper Size Window .
2-31 Preparation before Use 7 Load the paper in the cassette. 8 Close the cassette cover . 9 Insert the paper cassette into the slot in the machine. Push it straight in as far as it will go. 10 Select the media type (plain, recycled, etc.) loaded in the cassette.
Preparation before Use 2-32 Loading Paper into the MP (Multi-Purpose) T ray The multi purpose tray will hold up to 100 sheets of A4 plain paper (80 g/m²) or up to 20 sheets of A3 plain paper (80 g/m²). For details of the supported p aper sizes, refer to Selecting the Right Paper on page A-18 .
2-33 Preparation before Use 3 Pull out the support tray section of the MP tray . 4 Adjust the position of the paper guides on th e MP tray . S tandard paper sizes are marked on the MP tray . For standard paper sizes, slide the paper wid th guides to the corresponding mark.
Preparation before Use 2-34 Loading Envelopes 5 envelopes may be loaded in the multi purpose tray . Acceptable enve lope sizes are as follows. When you load envelopes or Hagaki (cardstock) in the multi purpose tray Load envelope with the print side facing up.

Operation Panel 4-2 Message Display Messages indicating the status of the various printer operations are displayed on the message display . 4-3 Operation Panel Indicators in Message Display Ready , Dat a, and Attention Indicators The following indicators light during normal operation and w henever the printer need s attention. Depending on the status of lighting, each indicator has the following meaning: Indicator Description Flashing.

Operation Panel 4-16 Job Log History (Sending Job Log History) This sets the sending of the Job Log History . The options available in the Job Log History menu are as follows: • Auto Sending (Automatic Sending of Job Log History)...4-16 • Send History (Sending job log history).
4-17 Operation Panel 8 Press [OK] . The Auto Sending menu appears. When Auto Sending is set to On in step 5, the setting for Jobs is displayed. 9 Press or to select Jobs . 10 Press [OK] . The Jobs screen appears. 11 Use the numeric keys or press or to specify the number of job log histories.
Operation Panel 4-18 Destination (Setti ng the destination) Set the destination to which log histor ies are sent. Only E-mail address can be set. The options available in the Destination menu are as follows: • Address Entry (Entering an e-mail address).

4-21 Operation Panel USB Memory (USB memory selection) This specifies the settings for removing the USB memory and printing USB memory content. The USB Memory menu automatically appears when you inst all the USB memory . The options available in the USB Memory menu are as follows: • Print File (Printing and checking the files in the USB memory).
Operation Panel 4-22 Press or to select a folder and then press [OK] . The folders and files in the selected folder are displayed. Print File (Printing the selected file) Y ou can use this to specify printing for files in the USB memory .
4-23 Operation Panel Print Function Settings When printing, the print settings can be changed. Options available in Print Function Settings are as follows: • Quiet Mode (Selecting the Quiet Mode)...4-23 • Duplex (Setting the duplex printing)...4-23 • EcoPrint (Selecting the EcoPrint mode).
Operation Panel 4-24 4 Press or to select the desired duplex printing mode. The message display toggles through the following: Off (default) Bind Long Edge Bind Short Edge Selecting Off disables duplex printing. 5 Press [OK] . The duplex printing mode is set and the Function menu reappears.
4-25 Operation Panel 5 Press [OK] . The Additional Info. screen appears. 6 Press or to select from the additional information that can be set for the file name. The following settings can be selected. • None (No additional information is added.
Operation Panel 4-26 7 Press [OK] . Register the address and the Function menu reappears. Encrypted PDF (Enter ing the PDF p assword) The password of a PDF file can be entered. 1 In the Copies menu or the Paper Source menu, press [Function] ( [Right Select] ).
4-27 Operation Panel 5 Press [OK] . The TIFF/JPEG Size setting is set and the Function menu reappears. XPS FitT o Page (Adjusting th e XPS file pr int out size) Select On in this setting to enlarge or reduce XPS files to fit the printable area during printing.
Operation Panel 4-28 Pressing [OK] twice while file or folder details are displayed returns you to the Print File menu. Remove Me mory (Remov ing the USB memory) Allows you to remove a USB memory device. 1 In the USB Memory menu, press or to select Remove Memory .
4-29 Operation Panel Counter (V iewing the counter value) This only displays the total number of p ages printed. Y ou cannot change the displayed number . 1 Press [Menu] . 2 Press or to select Counter . 3 Press [OK] . The Counter menu screen appears.
Operation Panel 4-30 Paper Settings This sets the p aper size and type for the MP tray and cassettes from which paper is supplied. The options available in Paper Settings are as follows: • MP T ray Set. (MP tray settings)...4-30 • Cassette (1 to 5) Set.
4-31 Operation Panel 4 Press [OK] . The Paper Size screen appears listing the paper sizes that can be supplied from the MP tray . The available paper sizes are as follows: Envelope #10 Envelope #9 Env.
Operation Panel 4-32 2 Press [OK] . The MP Tray Set. menu screen appears. 3 Press or to select Media Type . 4 Press [OK] . The Media Type screen appears listing the media types that can be supplied from the MP tray .
4-33 Operation Panel Setting the cassette p aper size T o set the standard sizes for the paper cassette, load the p aper and turn the paper size dial so that the size of the paper you are going to use appears in the paper size window .
Operation Panel 4-34 Setting the non-st andard paper size T o set the non-standard sizes (sizes other than A3, A4-R, A4, A5-R, B4 and B5-R), the following operations are necessary . • Selecting the Size Dial Setting...4-34 • Other Paper Size (Setting the Paper Size from the Operation Panel).
4-35 Operation Panel Oficio II 8K 16K ISO B5 Custom (#1): Only be used in Cassette 1. 5 Press or to select the desired paper size. 6 Press [OK] . The paper size for the cassette is set and the Cassette # Set. menu screen reappears. If you selected Custom in step 4, use the procedure below to specify the paper length and width.
Operation Panel 4-36 4 Press [OK] . The Measurement menu screen appears. 5 Press or to select the paper size units and then press [OK] . The unit for entering the paper size is set and the Custom PaperSize menu screen reappears. 6 Press or to select Size Entry(Y) .
4-37 Operation Panel Media T ype Set. (Paper type settings) Y ou can set the paper thickness by selecting a paper weight. This allows you to set the paper thickness for each of the media types that can be used on the printer .
Operation Panel 4-38 2 Press [OK] . The Media Type Set. screen appears listing the media types that can used with the printer . 3 Press or to select the media type for which you want to set the paper weight. 4 Press [OK] . A menu for the selected media is displayed.
4-39 Operation Panel 6 Press [OK] . The Paper Weight screen appears listing the paper weights that can used with the printer . 7 Press or to select the desired paper weight. 8 Press [OK] . The paper weight is set and the custom p aper screen reappears.
Operation Panel 4-40 4 Press [OK] . A menu for the selected media is displayed. 5 Press or to select Name Entry . 6 Press [OK] . The Name Entry screen appears. 7 Use the numeric keys to enter the name to display for the custom paper . 8 Press [OK] .
4-41 Operation Panel Print Settings These settings specify the following printing parameters: paper feed source, p aper feed mode, duplex printing, override A4/ L TR, emulation mode, print quality , and setting pagination. The options available in Print Settings are as follows: • Paper Source (Selecting the paper feed source).
Operation Panel 4-42 Auto Cass. Change (Auto Cassette Change setting) Y ou can select the following actions when the paper runs out in the p aper source while printing. 1 In the Print Settings menu, press or to select Auto Cass.Change . 2 Press [OK] .
4-43 Operation Panel Paper Feed Mode (Setting the p aper feed source) This mode specifies how the paper should be fed once the p aper feed source and paper type have been chosen. If Auto is selected, the printer searches for a paper feed sourc e that matches the paper size and type, and paper is then delivered from that source.
Operation Panel 4-44 Binding Modes Binding refers to the manner in which printed pages of p aper are joined together (by gluing, stitching, etc.) in book form.
4-45 Operation Panel Override A4/L TR (Overriding di fference between A4 and Letter) When the Override A4/LTR is turned On using the operation panel, the printe r ignores the d ifference between A4 and Letter paper sizes.

Maintenance 7-2 T oner Cont ainer Replacement The printer displays messages at two stages of toner usage: • When the printer becomes low on toner , the printer displays the message Toner is running out. as the first caution. Note the replacement is not always necessary at this stag e.
7-3 Maintenance Replacing the T oner Cont ainer This section explains how to replace the toner containers. When replacing the toner cont ainer , always replace the waste toner box at the same time. If this box is full, the printer may be damaged or contaminated by the waste toner that may spill over the box.
Maintenance 7-4 4 Put the old toner container in the plastic bag (cont ained in the toner kit) and discard it later according to the local code or regulations for waste disposal.
7-5 Maintenance 6 Shake the new toner container at least 10 times as shown in the figure in order to distribute the toner evenly inside the container . 8-3 Troubleshooting Print Quality Problems The tables and diagrams in the following sections define print quality problems and the corrective action you can conduct to solve the problems. Some solutions may require cleaning or replacing part s of the printer .

The SD card inserted in the printer is not formatted, and therefore cannot be read or written. T o format an SD card, follow the procedure in Format SD Card (Formatting the SD card) on page 4-84 .
