3 SOME DOS AND DON TS ON THE SAFE USE OF EQUIPMENT This equipment has been designed and manuf actured to meet inter national saf ety standards but, lik e any electrical equipment, care must be tak en if you are to obtain the best results and saf ety is to be assured.
4 Notes on handling When shipping the unit, the original shipping car ton and packing materials come in handy . For maximum protection, repack the unit as it w as originally packed at the f actor y . Do not use volatile liquids , such as insect spra y , near the unit.
5 On handling discs Do not touch the playback side of the disc. Do not attach paper or tape to discs. On cleaning discs Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the centre outwards with a soft cloth. Always k eep the disc clean.
6 DIGITAL VIDEO About this owner ’ s manual This owner’ s manual e xplains the basic instructions of this D VD video pla yer . Some D VD video discs are produced in a manner that allows specific or limited operation during playbac k. As such, the D VD video play er ma y not respond to all oper ating commands.

9 Display window The display ma y vary depending on the types of discs you pla y . 11 Slide the battery compar tment cover in the direction of the arrow . Install two “R03” batteries (supplied), paying attention to the polarity diagram in the battery compar tment. Replace the compar tment cov er . Notes on batteries Improper use of batteries may cause battery leakage and corrosion.
12 ■ SCART connection Connect the SCAR T OUTPUT socket on the unit to the SCART INPUT soc ket on the TV using supplied scar t lead. Note: If your TV is RGB compatible, slide the VIDEO OUTPUT selector to left side for better picture quality .
13 Y ou can also enjoy high quality dynamic sounds of an optional equipment b y connecting with this unit. • The OPTICAL IN and COAXIAL IN soc kets are belong to LINE IN 1 input. If you connect the D VD play er using a Optical lead or Coaxial lead, the Video lead must be connected to LINE IN1 VIDEO INPUT socket.
14 Speaker system connection T urn off the mains first and set the v olume knob to low initially bef ore connecting. Connect the speakers using the supplied speaker leads b y matching the colors of the terminals and those and those of the leads. T o obtain the best possible surround sound, adjust the speak er parameters (distance, le vel etc.
15 A udio setup T one control Bass boost setting Y ou can set bass boost effect on or off . Y ou can change the sound quality by adjusting the bass and treble . 1 2 Press T ONE in D VD mode. The “T one” screen appears. Press C or D to select “Bass” or “T reble”, then press B or A to adjust the sound le vel.
16 Selecting surr ound mode Press SURROUND or RETURN to close the “Surround” screen. Press SURROUND in DVD mode. The “Surround” screen appears. Press A or ENTER , and press C or D to select “Auto”, “PLII” or “2 Channel”, then press ENTER .
17 Y ou may adjust speak er volume balance and dela y time according to your listening position. Speaker setup D F D C D R D R D F It is hopeful that the inter v al from the listener to each speakers is same to get the best sound quality .
18 D VD setup When each setup function (page 18 ~ 24) has been completed, the unit can always be operated under the same conditions (especially with DVD discs). Each setup command will be retained in the memory even if you turn the power off. Setting OSD language If the unit does not operate pr operly: Static electricity , etc.
19 Setting Subtitle language English, Francais, Espanol, Deutsch, Italiano, Portugues, Nederlands: The language you have selected will play if it is recorded on the disc. Other: If you want to select another language, enter the language code with number buttons (0–9) .
20 Setting the aspect ratio of TV screen Note: If the D VD disc is not formatted in the pan & scan style, it will display a letterbo xed picture. Setting on screen display Press SETUP in the stop mode. Press b b b b b or a a a a a to select “Picture”, then press 5 5 5 5 5 or ENTER .

22 DRC (Dynamic Range Control) enables you to control the dynamic range so as to achieve a suitable sound for your equipment. Dynamic Range Control (DRC) Line1 Select If you connect an another unit (DVD, VCR or etc.) to the LINE IN1 sockets, you must select the type of audio input.

25 Pla ybac k pr ocedure Basic pla yback Place a disc onto the disc tray. Hold the disc, position it with the printed label side up, align it with the guides, and place it in its proper position. Preparation: • T urn ON the TV and select to the corresponding video input.
26 Special pla yback Note: There may be a slight dela y between you pressing the button and the function activ ating. Press SEARCH + during normal playback. Each press of SEARCH + will increase the speed of the search , , , . Revie w playbac k Press SEARCH – during normal playback.
27 Press MARKER during playback. Select the blank Marker using / . Then press ENTER at the desired scene. Press MARKER to remove this display. Marker 2 Marker 1 Marker 3 /Enter/Cancel/Marker 27 00 54 The unit stores the points that you want to watch again up to 3 points.
28 A-B Repeat pla yback A-B repeat playback allows you to repeat material between two selected points. Notes: • In A-B Repeat mode, subtitles near the A or B locations may not be displa yed. • Y ou can not set the A-B Repeat for the scenes that in- clude multiple angles.
29 Press / to select “Play Mode”, then press / or ENTER to select “Program”. • To programme others, repeat step 3. • If you input a wrong number, press CANCEL . Press / or / to select “Program Playback” and press ENTER . The programmes in the order you selected will start playback.
30 Two or more titles may be recorded on some discs. If a title menu is recorded on the disc, you can select the desired title. Title selection Press TOP MENU during playback. Title menu appears on the screen. Press / or / to select the desired title.
31 With each press of DISPLA Y , the status of the disc will appear on the screen and change as f ollows. T o mak e status display disappear , press DISPLA Y again. When you pla yback the CD disc, the status displa y will appear on the screen and continue displa ying.
32 MP3/WMA/JPEG CD inf ormation Limitations on MP3/WMA/JPEG CD playback • MP3/WMA/JPEG CD is the disc that is standardized by ISO9660, its file name must include 3-digits extension letters, “mp3”, “wma”, “jpg”. • MP3/WMA/JPEG CD must be correspond to the ISO standardized files.
33 Notes: • During MP3/WMA/JPEG-Playback, you can not use SEARCH, A-B Repeat functions. • You can use Repeat (Track or All), Random functions and Programme playback for MP3/WMA/JPEG CD Playback (see pages 28 and 29).
34 The slide show enables you to view pictures (files) one after another automatically. Preparation: • Set “JPEG Inter v al” setting to “5 Seconds”, “10 Sec- onds” or “15 Seconds” (see page 21). Place a disc on which JPEG files have been recorded onto the tray.
35 Selecting progressive scan 1 The progressive scan capability provides the highest resolution pictures with less flicker and line structure. If you are using the Component video sockets, but are connecting the unit to a standard (analog) television, set PROGRESSIVE to Off.
36 Manual presetting 1. T une the station to be preset as described in “A u- tomatic/Manual tuning”. 2. Press SETUP . “M. PRESET” appears on the win- dow displa y , then the preset position n umber blinks. 3. Press PRESET + or – to select the position num- ber to be preset.
37 Press PRESET + or – to select the desired position number . Y ou can also select the desired position num- ber using the number b uttons (0–9) , then press ENTER . • F or example , to select the preset position number 7, press 0 and 7 , then press ENTER .
38 Other functions Press MUTE to mute y our unit. Y ou can mute your unit in order , for e xample, to ans wer the telephone, “MUTE” indicator appears on the displa y window . Connect a stereo headphone plug (ø 3.5mm) into the HEADPHONE sock et on the front panel.
