11 Using R eceiver How Do I A djust the Sound? Adjusting the T one ( Only in STEREO mode with THX mode Off) The T one control adjusts the bass and treble tone of your front speakers manually . In addition to setting Bass and Treble tone adjustment v alues , you can completely b ypass the tone control circuitry for a purer sound.

This adjusts to the w ay the human ear hears sound at quiet v ol- umes, retaining music’ s fullness and sparkle.

53 Using R eceiver Adjusting the brightness of receiv er When the ambient light is low , for example in the night, the brightness of the receiver’ s display can be dimmed and LED indicators (THX, DTS, D.R.I.V .E., DOLB Y DIGIT AL, MPEG, HDCD and 2-wa y communication indicator) can be disabled.
54 Using R eceiver Executing Several Operations at Once (Macro function) By registering several steps of remote control operations beforehand, these operations can be executed with a single operation. This function is re- ferred to as the macro function.

71 Troubleshooting Chapter F our: T roubleshooting Troubleshooting is ho w you determine what part of a complex sy stem (like a home theater sy stem) is at fault when the system isn’t w orking how y ou think it should.
72 Moving Around Troubleshooting 3. Go o ver all component connections slo wly and methodically . Double-check the settings on your remote . W rong or loose connections are the most likely cause of the most common home entertainment problem: no sound.
73 Troubleshooting Sound Sound I don’t hear any sound at all Check that: • The volume is set at the proper lev el. See “ Adjusting the V olume” on page␣ 1 0 of this manual. • Mute is OFF . If the MUTE indicator on the front of the receiver is blinking, MUTE is ON .
74 Moving Around Troubleshooting Sound I can’t hear sound from one or more of the speakers, or the sound is abnormally low Check that: • All of the speaker wires are connected tightly , not short circuited. See Chapter One of the Connections and Setup Guide .
75 Troubleshooting Sound A Dolby Digital Surround EX-encoded source is pla yed with THX Surround EX set to “ Auto”, but the source is not reproduced in 6.1- channel audio. • Some encoded sources (discs) do not contain the recording of the encoding identification signal.
76 Moving Around Troubleshooting With a Dolby Digital program or D TS program, the loud sounds aren’t very loud and the quiet sounds aren’t v ery quiet Check that volume extremes are not automatically being balanced. See “Midnight Theater Function” on page␣ 16 of this manual.
77 Troubleshooting • Check that the correct video input on the TV is selected. • Check that the video software you record does not ha ve copy guard protection.
