4 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Getting Started Getting Started The 53i must be set up and configured prior to its first use. This section describes phone behavior and start up screens you may se e when the phone is first plugged in, or when it is restarted.

Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 9 IP Phone Keys and Key Descriptions Line/Call Appearance key - Connects you to a line or call. The Aastra 53i IP phone supports up to 3 line keys. Handsfree key - Activates Handsfree for making and receiving calls without lifti ng the handset.

Ring Tones and Tone Sets Y ou can configure ring tones and ring tone sets on the IP phone.

Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 33 Customizing Your Phone Resetting a User Password If you forget your password, you can reset it and enter a new password. The reset user password feature resets the password to the factory default which is blank (no password).
34 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Customizing Your Phone Restarting your pho ne Y ou may want to restart your phone to check for updates for your phone on the server . Y ou may occasionally need to rest art your phone to set changes or updates to your phone or network settings.

40 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Line Keys and Programmable Keys Programmable Keys There are six function keys on the 53i phone, 4 of which are programmable, located to the left of the paper label. Y ou can use the Aastra W eb UI only , to c onfigure key functions.

Key Function Description XML Indicates the key is configured to accept an XML application for accessing cu stomized XML services.

Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 49 Line Keys and Programmable Keys Busy Lamp Field (BLF) Key The BLF feature on the IP phones allows a specific extension to be monitored for state changes. BLF monitors the status (busy or idle) of extensions on the IP phone.
50 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Line Keys and Programmable Keys BLF List Key (For use with the BroadSoft Br oadworks Rel 13 or higher platform only) The BLFList feature on the IP phones is specifically designed to support the BroadSoft Broadworks Rel 13 Busy Lamp Field feature.
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 51 Line Keys and Programmable Keys Configuring a BLF List Key The BLF List function can be configured on the 53i using the Aastra W eb UI only . If you set a key to use BLF/List, you must also enter a BLF List URI at Operation- >Programmable Keys -> Services .

Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 55 Line Keys and Programmable Keys Using the ACD Feature on your IP Phone The ACD feature allows y ou to login to a p hone queue in order to receive distributed calls on your IP phone. T o login to a pho ne queue, you must preconfigure an ACD programmable key on your IP Phone as de scribed in the previous procedure.

The DCP/GCP feature allows you to intercep t - or pickup - a call on a monitored extension.

Using Directed Call Pickup (DCP) 1. When the monitored extens ion receives a call , press the DCP Key to pick up the call.

XML is a markup language much like HTML. Y our System Administrator can create customized XML menu services and load them to your IP phone.

62 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Line Keys and Programmable Keys Sprecode Key Y ou can set a programmable key to automatic ally activate specific service s offered by the server . For example, if the sprecode value o f *82 is configured, then by pressing the Sprecode programmable key , *82 automatically ac tivates a service provided by the server .

The IP phones support the Park/Pickup fe ature on the Asterisk, BroadW orks, Sylantro, and ININ PBX servers.

72 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Line Keys and Programmable Keys Using the Icom Key ( for Outgoing Intercom Calls ) 1. Press the Icom key . 2. Enter the extension number of the person you want to intercom or the BLF softkey for that extension.
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 73 Line Keys and Programmable Keys None Key Y ou can set a key to force a blank entry on the IP phone display for a specific key . Y ou do this by setting the key to " none ". If a particular key is not defined, it is ignored.
74 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Line Keys and Programmable Keys Phone Lock Key Y ou can configure a programmable key on th e phone to use as a lock/unlock key . Y ou assign the function of the key as “ Phone Lock ”. Use the following procedure to configure a programmable key as a lock/unlock key in the Aastra W eb UI.

Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 77 Making Calls Making Calls This section describes ways to make calls on your 53i phone, using your handset, speakerphone or headset. Dialing a Number First, take the phone off-h ook by: • lifting the handset • pressing or • pressing a line/call appearance button.
78 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Making Calls Using Handsfree Speakerphone The handsfree feature allows you to speak to someone without using the handset or headset. Y our phone must be in either th e Speaker or Speaker/Headset audio mode. For more information about settin g the audio mode on your phone, see "Set Audio" on page 24 .
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 79 Making Calls Using a Headset The 53i accepts headsets th rough the modular RJ9 jack on the b ack of the phone. Contact your telephone equipment retailer or distributor to purchase a comp atible headset. Advanced Volume Control s for the Headset Mi c On the 53i, there are 3 options for th e headset microphone volume.
80 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Making Calls Redial • Press to dial the most rece nt number y ou dialed from the phone. • If you are of f-hook and press the last number you called is called back. • If you are on-hook and press , a Redial Directory list appears on- screen.
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 81 Making Calls Deleting from th e Redial List Delete All Items 1. Press . 2. Press the Delete Key , then pres s the Delete Key again at the prompt to erase all items. Mute Y ou can use the Mute key to mute th e handset, headset, or speakerphone.
82 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Making Calls Press the button at any time to mu te handset, headse t, or handsfree. The speaker ligh t flashes slowly and you ca n hear the caller , but they cannot hear you.
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 83 Receiving Calls Receiving Calls When a call is ringing at your extension, you see the " Inbound Call " Screen.
84 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Handling Calls Handling Calls When you are connected to a call, you can use the hard keys or programmable keys on the phone to place a call o n hold, transfer a ca ll, or conference. Placing a Call on Hold Y ou can place an active call on hold by pressing the Hold key .
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 85 Handling Calls Automatic Ho ld When juggling between calls, you do not have to press the hold button to go from one call to the next. The phone automatically puts your current call on hold as soon as you press a new line/call appearance button.
86 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Handling Calls 1. Connect to Party 1 (if not already connect ed). Party 1 is the party you want to transfer . 2. Press the Tr a n s f e r Key . Y ou should hear a dial tone as a second line opens up. 3. Dial the extension number (or the outside num ber) to Party 2.
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 87 Handling Calls Conferencing Calls The 53i IP phone offers tw o methods of conferencing: • Local conferencing (default method). • Centralized conferencing (for Sylantro and Broadsoft Servers) (Administrator must enable this method).
88 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Handling Calls Using Local Conferencing Use the following procedure to create a confe rence call usi ng local confere ncing. Use the following illustration as a reference. 1. When you begin a conference, you are the firs t party in the conference (Party 1).
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 89 Handling Calls Joining Two Active Calls in a Single Conference 1. Begin with active ca lls on two different lines (for exam ple, Line 1 and Lin e 2 have active calls). 2. Press the Line key for which you want to conferen ce the two calls together (for example, Line 1).
90 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Handling Calls Centralized Conferencing (for Sylantro and Broadsoft Servers) The 53i allows you to create multiple c onferences with unlimited participants (depending on your server limitations) when your Administrator enables Centralized Conferencing.
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 91 Handling Calls Setting Up a Conference and Adding Multiple Parties (for Sylantro and Broadsoft Servers) 1. When you begin a conference, you are the f irst party in the conference (Party 1). Pickup the handset or press the Speakerphone Key .
92 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Handling Calls Setting Up Multiple Conferences (for Sylantro Server only) 1. Start Conference 1 using the proce dures in the previous section, "Setting Up a Conference and Adding Mult iple Parties (for Sylantro and Broadsoft Servers)" .
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 93 Handling Calls Ending Calls T o end a call, you first need to connect or reconnect to the call if not already connected (for example, if your caller is on hold). Press or the line/call appearance button of the active call to end the call.
94 Model 53i IP Phone User Guide Managing Calls Managing Calls The 53i has several features that make it easier to manage calls, and to keep track of your caller history , as well as your business and personal contacts.
Model 53i IP Phone User Guide 95 Managing Calls 3. T o search for an entry by name, press the dial pad number corresponding to the first letter of the name (for example, pre ss 7 for the letter P ). Continue to press the dial pad number to access other letters on the same key (for example, press 7 three times for ‘ Ron ’).
