– 6 – Getting Started Unpacking After unpacking, check to be sure that you hav e all the following items. The number in the parenthesis indicates the quantity of the pieces supplied.
– 7 – 1 If cords ar e covered with insulation, twist the cor e of the cord at the end of each cord, then remo ve the insulation. 2 Connect the AM (MW/L W) loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. 3 T urn the AM (MW/L W) loop antenna until you ha ve the best reception.
– 8 – RL -- + + RL – AM EXT AM LOOP FM(75 Ω ) COAXIAL ANTENNA Connecting Other Equipment Y ou can connect the following equipment which can be used as a playback and recording de vice. By using the cassette deck, for example, y ou can record any source played back on this unit.
– 9 – Putting the Batteries into the Remote Control Insert the batteries — R6P(SUM-3)/AA(15F) — into the remote control, by matching the polarity (+ and –) on the batteries with the + and – marking on the battery compartment. When the remote control can no longer operate the unit, replace both batteries at the same time.

– 11 – T urning On the Power When you press the play button (CD # / 8 , MD # / 8 ) or the source selecting buttons such as FM/AM and A UX, the unit automatically turns on (and starts playback if the source is ready .) T o turn on the unit without playing, press .
– 12 – Adjusting the Volume Y ou can adjust the volume le vel only while the unit is turned on. T o decrease the volume, press V OLUME – . T o increase the volume, press V OLUME + . • When press and hold each button, you can change the v olume level continuously .

– 21 – Playing Back the Entire CD — Normal Play Y ou can play a CD. 1 Pr ess CD OPEN/CLOSE 0 . The unit automatically turns on, the electronic swing panel slides upward, then the disc tray comes out. 2 Place a CD corr ectly on the circle of the disc tray with its label side up.
– 22 – Programing the Playing Order of the T racks — Program Play Y ou can arrange the order in which the tracks play before you start playing. Y ou can program up to 32 tracks. On the remote contr ol ONL Y : 1 Load a CD. 2 Press CD # / 8 , then 7 .
– 23 – Repeating T racks — Repeat Play Y ou can hav e all the tracks, the program or the individual track currently playing repeat as many times as you lik e. On the remote contr ol ONL Y : T o repeat play , press REPEA T during or before play .

– 25 – • When the unit finishes playing a track, its track number goes off fr om the track number indicator on the display . MD playback stops automatically after playing all the tracks on the MD. T o stop during play , press 7 . T o remove the disc, press MD OPEN/CLOSE 0 .
– 26 – Basic MD Operations While playing an MD, you can do the follo wing operations. T o stop playback for a moment Press MD # / 8 . The MD indicators lights on the display and the elapsed playing time starts flashing in the main display . T o resume playback, press MD # / 8 again.
– 27 – REPEAT ALL REPEAT OFF REPEAT 1 (Canceled) T o modify the program Before playing, you can erase the last programed track by pressing CANCEL. Each time you press the button, the last programed track is erased from the program. T o add tracks in the program befor e you start play , simply select track numbers you want to add.

– 29 – Before Y ou Start Recording • It may be unla wful to record or play bac k copyrighted material without the consent of the copyright owner . • When you record onto partially recorded MD, its contents are not erased or ov erwritten. The recording starts from the point following the last recorded track of the MD .
– 30 – Stereo Long-Hour Recording (MDLP) On con ventional MD recorders, 2 times long-hour recording on MDs has been possible only in monaural sound, but this unit allo ws f or 2 times or 4 times long- hour recording without losing stereo sound.
– 31 – Recording FM/AM (MW/L W) Broadcasts Y ou hav e three methods (MODE 1 – 3) to record from an FM/AM (MW/L W) broadcast onto an MD. * For the recording length mode, see “Stereo Long-Hour Recording (MDLP)” on page 30. On the main unit ONL Y : 1 Insert a recordable MD in the MD loading slot.
– 32 – Recording the External Equipment — Sound Synchronized Recording W ith this recording method, you can start recording automatically when the source sound comes into this unit through the LINE IN jacks. Sound synchronized Recording will stop automatically if no sound comes into for more than 30 seconds.

The MD editing functions include di viding, joining, moving, erasing tracks, erasing the entire disc, and more than one of them can be combined as required.
– 35 – 6 Press Ø or ø to adjust the dividing point precisely . When you stop pressing the buttons, the unit r epeats the newly selected di viding point. • Y ou can shift the dividing point up to ±128. T his range (±128) corresponds to approximately ±8 seconds* from the original point (Position 0).
– 36 – 3 Press SET . “– – – + 1 ?” appears in the main display . 4 Press ¢ or 4 to select the tw o adjacent tracks y ou want to join. • Y ou can also press the number button(s) to directly select the track you want to join. 5 Press SET .
– 37 – ERASE Function This function allo ws you to erase unwanted tracks. • T o stop any time during editing process, press TITLE/EDIT . 1 Insert an MD y ou want to edit into the MD loading slot. 2 Pr ess TITLE/EDIT repea tedly until “ERASE?” appears in the main display .

– 42 – There are three timers a vailable — Recording T imer, Daily T imer , and Sleep T imer . Bef ore using these timers, you need to set the b uilt-in clock. Setting the Clock Y ou can set the clock whether the unit is turned on or in standby mode.

– 45 – T o sleep with the Sleep Timer and wake up with the Daily Timer The unit turns off when the shut-of f time comes (set by the Sleep T imer), and turns on w hen the timer-on time (set by the Daily T imer) comes. 1 Set the Daily Timer as explained on pages 43 and 44.
– 46 – Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs and mechanism clean. General Notes In general, you will hav e the best performance by keeping your CDs, MDs and the mechanism clean. • Store CDs and MDs in their cases, and keep them in cabinets or on shelves.
– 47 – MD Disc T ypes There are two types of MDs: Premastered (prerecorded) and Recordable (blank). Premaster ed MDs Premastered MDs, which hav e been recorded at music studio, can be played back like regular CDs. On an MD of this type, data is recorded as the presence or absence of tin y pits.
– 48 – SCMS (Serial Copy Management System) The MD recorder inte g rated to this unit uses the Serial Copy Management System which allo ws only first-generation digital copies to be made of premastered software (like CDs or prerecorded MDs).
