5 Gett ing S tarte d Connecti ng the AM (MW/LW) Ante nna Rear Panel of the Center Unit • The AM loop antenna can be attached to a wall. • If the AM loop antenna wire is covered with vinyl, remove the vinyl by twisting it as shown in t he diagram.

8 Getting St arted Connec ting an MD Record er, etc (Digi tal Ou tput) Remove the ca p and conn ect an optica l digital cord (not supplied) be tween the Syst em’s CD DIGITAL OUT terminal and the input term inal of the MD record er, etc. You can reco rd the digital outpu t signal from the System’s CD Play er to the MD recorder, etc .

When its buttons are operated, an ad ditional force wi ll be applied to i t in the do wnward dir ection.
10 Getting St arted • Do no t place anyt hing on t op of the Ce nter Unit. Doing so ma y cause the Center Unit to fall, causing m alfunction ing and/ or inj ury . • Do not climb ont o the Center Unit or hang from it. Doing so may damage the Center Unit and/or caus e injury.
11 Gett ing S tarte d Using th e Remote Co ntrol The Remote Co ntrol makes it easy t o use many of the functi ons of the System from a dist ance of up to 7 m away. The r emote sens or at which you need to poin t the Re mote Cont rol di ffers depe nding o n wheth er the Uni t is pla ced vertica lly or horiz ontally.
12 Basic Operations Turning the Pow er On and O ff Turning the System On Press the % bu tton. The di splay com es on and “ HELLO ” is displayed once. The operat ion indi cators light on the Pan el. (The Pa nel ope ns automatically if the Unit is placed v ertically and the DISP.
13 Basic Operat ions Changin g the Color (COLOR) (VS-DT9R only) (Using the Remo te Control) You can ch ange the c olor of the illumina tion on the Un it. 1 Press the % b utton to turn on the Sys- tem. 2 Press the COLOR button on the Remote Contr ol. “ RANDOM COLOR ” is displa yed.
14 Basic Ope rations Reinforc ing the Bass Sound (AHB PRO) (Using the Remo te Control) You can reinfo rce the bass sound to main tain rich, full b ass at low volu me. To get the effect, press the AHB (Active Hyper Bass) PRO but ton. The “ AHB PRO ” indicator li ghts up on th e display.
15 Using the Tuner You can listen to FM and AM (MW/LW) stat ions. Stations can be tuned in manually, au tomatically , or from preset memory st orage. ■ Before listening to the radio: • Mak e sure that both the FM and AM (MW/LW) antenn as are correctly conne cted.
16 Using t he Tuner Presetti ng Stations (Using the Remo te Control) You can p reset up to 3 0 FM stations an d up to 15 AM ( MW/ LW) stations. • Preset n umbers may hav e been set to f actory test fre- quencies prior to shipment. This is not a malfunction.
17 Using the Tuner To Change the F M Recep tion Mode (Using the Remo te Control) When yo u are tuned into an F M stereo broadcas t, the “ STEREO ” indicator lights up and you can hear stereo ef- fects. If an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive or noi sy, you can s elect Mon aural mode.
18 Using t he Tuner To search for a programme by PTY codes One of the advantages of th e RDS servic e is that yo u can locate a particular ki nd of programme by specifying the PTY codes. To search for a programme using PTY or TA codes: 1 Press the PTY SEARCH b utton once while listening to an FM station.
19 Using the Tuner T o temporarily switc h to a br oadcast programme of your c hoice “ Enhanced Other Net works ” is another convenie nt RDS service that allows this unit to switch temporarily to .
20 Using the CD Player You can use Normal, Random, Program or Repeat Play. Re- peat Play can repeat all the tracks or j ust one of the tracks on the CD. Here are the basic thi ngs you need to know to play a CD and locate the different t racks on it. This un it has been designed to play b ack the follow ing CDs.
21 Using the CD Play er CAUT IONS: • DO NOT try to open or clos e the Panel by hands as it wi ll be damaged. Press th e OPEN/CLOSE butt on on the Remote Con- trol to open or close the Pane l. • DO NOT try to insert another CD when a CD has b een al read y loa ded on the Un it.
22 Using the CD Play er 5 Press the Number button to select the trac k to program. Each time y ou press the Nu mber button, t he selected track is adde d to the pro gram. • For the track number more than 10, press the +10 bu tton then the Number b utton.
23 Using External Equipment Listening t o External Equipme nt You can listen to external equipm ent such as MD recorde r, cassette de ck or other auxi liary. ■ First make su re that the external eq uipment i s properly connected to the System. (Se e page 7).

25 Using the Timer s Settin g the Daily Timer (Using the Remo te Control) Once you h ave set the Daily Time r, the time r will be ac ti- vated at the same time eve ry day. The Ti mer indica tor ( ) on the disp lay shows th at the Dai- ly Timer you have se t is in effect.
26 Using the Timer s 6 Befor e turning off the System, prepare the music sour ce selected in step 3. TUNER: Tune in t o the desire d station. CD: Insert a CD. (Playback will start from the first track at Timer on .) 7 Press the % % % % butt on to turn off the Sys- tem.
