6 Putting batteries in the remote control Before using the remote control, put tw o supplied batter ies first. 1 Press and slide the battery cover on the bac k of the remote control. 2 Insert batteries. Make sure to match the polarity: (+) to (+) and (–) to (–).

15 7 Connecting a video component to the A UX input jacks The A UX input jacks on the front panel (inside the front door) are conv enient when connecting and disconnecting the component frequently . Before making connections , press PUSH-OPEN to show the jacks .

17 USB USB connection This receiver is equipped with a USB terminal on the front panel and a USB WIRELESS ANTENNA ter minal on the rear . Y ou can enjoy the sound reproduced through y our PC with eith.
18 Now PC is read y for pla yback thr ough the USB connection. After installation is completed, you can use y our PC as the playbac k source. The PC automatically recogniz es the receiver whenev er the transmitter is connected to the PC or the USB cable is connected between the PC and the receiv er while the receiv er is turned on.
19 Basic operations 2 Select the source to play On the front panel: T urn SOURCE SELECTOR until the sour ce name y ou want appears on the displa y . 21 Selecting the digital decode mode This receiver automatically detects the incoming digital signal for mat when “HDMI” or “DIGIT AL ” is selected in the audio input setting (see page 20).
22 Basic adjustment of auto memory This receiv er memorizes sound settings for each source: • when you turn off the power , and • when you change the source . When you change the source , the memorized settings f or the newly selected source are automatically recalled.
23 To obtain the best possib le sound effect from Surround/DSP modes (see pages 41 to 45), you need to set up the speak er and subwoof er information after all the connections are completed. F rom pages 23 to 32, how to set speakers and other basic items of the receiv er are explained.
24 When your c lapping sound is detected successfully • On the TV screen, “SUCCESSFUL, ” “RESUL T , ” and the setting v alues appear . The setting values are shown f or about 10 seconds. 30 Selecting the main or sub channel —DUAL MONO Y ou can select the playbac k sound (channel) you want while playing digital softw are recorded (or broadcasted) in Dual Mono mode (see page 42), which includes two monaural channels separately . When the receiver detects Dual mono signals , the DU AL MONO indicator lights up on the displa y .
31 Setting the digital input (DIGIT AL IN) terminals—DIGIT AL IN 1/2/3 When you use the digital input terminals, register what components are connected to which terminals—DIGIT AL IN 1/2/3 (see page 16) so that the correct source name will appear when y ou select the digital source.
32 Selecting the output video signals —VIDEO OUTPUT To use the video conv ersion function (see page 9), you need to select this setting according to the connection method f or a TV . VIDEO OUTPUT : HDMI Select this when connecting a TV with the HDMI cable.

The indicator corresponding to the speaker appears while a test tone comes out of the speakers . 37 7 Attenuating the input signal—INPUT A TT When the input lev el of analog source is too high, the sound will be distor ted. If this happens, you need to atten uate the input signal lev el to prev ent the sound distor tion. • Once you hav e made an adjustment, it is memorized for each source.
38 7 Adjusting the sound localization of the center channel—CENTER GAIN This setting is av ailable only when Neo:6 Music is in use. • If “CENTER SPK” is set to “NO” (see page 28), this item is not adjustable. • Once you hav e made an adjustment, it is memorized until you change the setting.
39 T uner operations T uning in to stations manually From the remote control ONL Y : 1 Press FM or AM to select the band. The last receiv ed station of the selected band is tuned in. 2 Press repeatedly or hold TUNING 9 or ( TUNING until the station y ou want is tuned in.
40 3 Press the numeric b uttons (1 – 10, +10) to select a channel number while the c hannel n umber position is flashing. •F or channel number 5, press 5. •F or channel number 15, press +10, then 5. •F or channel number 30, press +10, +10, then 10.
41 Creating realistic sound fields Reproducing theater ambience In a movie theater , many speak ers are located on the walls to reproduce impressiv e multi-channel sound, reaching you from all directions. With these many speakers , sound localization and sound mov ement can be expressed.
42 DTS Neo:6 DTS Neo:6 is another conv ersion method to create 6-channel (plus subwoof er) from analog/digital 2-channel software b y using the high precision digital matrix decoder used for DTS-ES Matrix 6.1ch. • This receiver pro vides the follo wing DTS Neo:6 modes— Neo:6 Cinema (NEO:6 CINEMA) and Neo:6 Music (NEO:6 MUSIC).
43 Introducing the DSP modes The sound heard in a concer t hall, club , etc. consists of direct sound and indirect sound—early reflections and reflections from behind. Direct sounds reach the listener directly without any reflection. On the other hand, indirect sounds are dela yed by the distances of the ceiling and walls.
44 Using the Surround/DSP modes Av ailable Surround/DSP modes v ary depending on the speaker settings and the incoming signals. See the tab le below . • The numbers inside the parentheses follo wing the incoming signal type indicate the number of the front channels and that of the surround channels.

47 One-touch DVD play Simply by starting playbac k on the D VD player , you can enjo y the D VD playback without setting other s witches manually . The follo wing is set automatically: •T ur ning on the receiver . • Changing the source to “D VR/D VD .
48 Y ou can use the supplied remote control to operate not onl y this receiver but also other JVC pr oducts. • Refer also to the man uals supplied with the other products. – Some JVC VCRs can accept two types of the control signals—remote codes “A” and “B.

53 Tr oubleshooting Use this chart to help you solve daily operational prob lems. If there are any prob lems you cannot solve, contact y our JVC’ s service center. PROBLEM The power does not come on. The receiver turns off (enters standby mode). “O VER HEA T” flashes on the displa y , then the receiver turns off.
54 PROBLEM Remote control does not operate as y ou intend. Remote control does not work. Continuous hiss or buzzing during FM reception. Occasional crac king noise during FM reception. POSSIBLE CA USE The remote control is not ready f or your intended operation.
