3 Getting Started This section explains how to connect audio/video components and speakers to the r eceiver , and how to connect the power supply . Before Installation General • Be sure your hands are dry . • T urn the power off to all components.

5 Connecting the subwoofer speaker Y ou can enhance the bass b y connecting a subwoofer . Connect the input jac k of a po wered subwoofer to the SUBWOOFER OUT jack on the r ear panel, using a ca ble with RCA pin plugs (not supplied).
6 V ideo component connections Use the cables with RCA pin plugs (not supplied). Connect the white plug to the audio left jack, the red plug to the audio right jack, and the yello w plug to the video jac k.
7 Connecting the Power Cor d Before plug ging the recei ver into an AC outlet, make sur e tha t all connections have been made. Plug the power cor d into an A C outlet. Keep the po wer cor d away fr om the connecting ca bles and the antenna. The power cord may cause noise or screen interference.
8 Basic Operations The following operations are commonly used when you play any sound source. T ur ning the Power On and Off (Standby) On the front panel: T o turn on the power , press POWER. The ST ANDBY lamp goes off. The name of the current source (or station frequency) appears on the displa y .
9 Listening Only with Headphones Y ou m ust tur n off speakers when you listen with headphones. 1. Connect a pair of headphones to the PHONES jack on the front panel . 2. Press SPEAKERS ON/OFF so that the SPK indicator disappears from the display . This cancels the DSP mode currently selected , and acti vates the HEADPHONE mode (see belo w).
10 Adjusting the Subwoofer Output Level Y ou can adjust the subw oofer output level if you have selected “YES” f or the “SUBWOOFER” (see page 11). Once it has been adjusted, the receiv er memor izes the adjustment. Bef ore you start, remember .
11 Recording a Sour ce Y ou can record any sour ce pla ying thr ough the receiver to a cassette deck (or a CD recorder) connected to the T APE/CDR jac ks and the VCR connected to the VCR jac ks a t the same time.
12 Setting the Speakers for the DSP Modes T o obtain the best possible sur round sound of the DSP (Dig ital Signal Pr ocessor) modes (see pa ge 18), you ha ve to register the information a bout the speakers arrangement after all connections are completed.

15 Storing the Basic Settings and Adjustments Y ou can assign and store different sound settings for each dif ferent playing sour ce. By using this function, you do not ha ve to change the settings ever y time you c hange the source. The stored settings for the newly selected source are automatically recalled.
16 T uning in Stations Manually On the front panel ONL Y : 1. Press FM/AM to select the band (FM or AM). • Each time you pr ess the button, the band alternates between FM and AM. 2. Press FM/AM TUNING 5 / ∞ until y ou find the fr equency you want.
17 FM/AM Selecting the FM Reception Mode When an FM stereo br oadcast is har d to receive or noisy Y ou can change the FM reception mode while recei ving an FM broadcast. • Y ou can store the FM r eception mode for each preset station. On the front panel ONL Y : Press FM MODE.

19 Reproducing the Sound Field The sound heard in a concert hall or club consists of direct sound and indirect sound — early reflections and reflections from behind. Direct sounds reach the listener dir ectly without an y r eflection. On the other hand, indirect sounds are delayed by the distances of the ceiling and walls.

26 Operating JVC’ s Audio/V ideo Components Y ou can operate JVC’ s audio and video components with this r eceiver’ s r emote control, since contr ol signals for JVC components are preset in the remote control.
27 Operating V ideo Components IMPORT ANT: T o operate JVC’s video components using this remote control: • Some JVC VCRs can accept two types of the control signals — remote code “A” and “B.” Before using this remote control, make sure that the remote control code of the VCR connected to the VCR jacks is set to code “A.
