6 ENGLISH 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. 2 Star t searching a station. When a station is receiv ed, searching stops. T o stop searc hing before a station is received, press the same b utton you ha ve pressed f or searching.
7 ENGLISH Storing stations in memory Y ou can use one of the f ollowing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory . • Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memor.
8 ENGLISH 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.3 MHz. See page 6 to tune into a station. 3 Press and hold the number b utton (in this e xample, 1) f or more than 2 seconds. 4 Repeat the abov e procedure to store other stations into other preset channel numbers .
9 ENGLISH T uning into a preset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you m ust store stations first. If you hav e not stored them yet, see pages 7 and 8. 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) f or the preset station you w ant.
10 ENGLISH What you can do with RDS EON RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular programme signals . For e xample, the stations send their station names , as well as inf or mation about what type of programme the y broadcast, such as spor ts or music, etc.
11 ENGLISH Mode 1 The AF indicator lights up but the REG indicator does not. Network-T racking is activ ated with Regionalization set to “ off . ” Switches to another station within the same network when the receiving signals from the current station become weak.
12 ENGLISH Using Standby Reception Standby Reception allo ws the unit to switch tempor arily to your f av or ite progr amme (PTY : Programme T ype) and T raffic Announcement (T A) from the current source — another FM station and CD . Note: Standby Reception will not work if you ar e listening to an AM station.
13 ENGLISH Selecting Y our Favorite Programme for PTY Standby Reception Y ou can select your f avorite progr amme for PTY Standb y Reception to store in memor y . When shipped from the f actor y , “ NEWS ” is stored as the programme type f or PTY Standby Reception.
14 ENGLISH T o store your favorite programme types 1 Press and hold SEL (select) f or more than 2 seconds to enter the general setting mode (see page 27). 2 Select “ PTY SRCH (search) ” if not shown on the displa y . 3 Select one of twenty-nine PTY codes.
15 ENGLISH 1 Press and hold PTY (progr amme type) f or more than 1 second while listening to an FM station. The last selected PTY code appears. 2 Select one of PTY codes stored in preset number b uttons (1 to 6). PTY search f or your f av orite programme star ts after 5 seconds.
16 ENGLISH Other convenient RDS functions and adjustments Automatic selection of the station when using the number buttons Usually when you press the n umber button, the preset station is tuned in. Howe ver , when the preset station is an RDS station, something different will happen.
17 ENGLISH Changing the display mode while listening to an FM station Y ou can change the initial indication on the displa y to station name (PS NAME), station frequency (FREQ), or clock time (CLOCK) while listening to an FM RDS station. • See also “ Changing the gener al settings ” on page 27.
18 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS Playing a CD Inser t a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws a CD and star ts pla yback automatically . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is alr eady in the loading slot, pr essing CD turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
19 ENGLISH Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD Number buttons ¢ 4 T o fast-for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ , while pla ying a CD , to fast-f orward the track. Press and hold 4 , while pla ying a CD , to rev erse the track.
20 ENGLISH Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can pla y back all trac ks on the CD at random. Each time you press MO RND (Monaur al/Random) while playing a CD , CD random pla y mode turns on and off alter nately .
21 ENGLISH Pr ohibiting CD ejection CD 0 Y ou can prohibit CD ejection and can “ lock ” a CD in the loading slot. While pressing CD , press 0 f or more than 2 seconds. “ EJECT ” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the CD is “ locked ” and cannot be ejected.

The “ Link ” indicator star ts flashing, and the sound mode stored in memor y f or the selected source is recalled. Notes: • Y ou can adjust each sound mode to your prefer ence, and stor e it in memory .

29 ENGLISH Selecting 24-hour or 12-hour clock Y ou can change the clock b uilt in this unit either to 24-hour system or 12-hour system. 1. Press and hold SEL (Select) for more than 2 seconds to call up the general settings mode. 2. Select “ 24H/12H ” with ¢ or 4 .
30 ENGLISH Selecting the telephone muting This mode is used when a cellular phone system is connected. Depending on the phone system used, select either “ MUTING 1 ” or “ MUTING 2 ” , whichever mutes the sounds from this unit. When shipped from the f actor y , this mode is deactivated.
31 ENGLISH How to detach the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power . 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Lift and pull the control panel out of the unit.
32 ENGLISH 1. Remo ve the battery holder . 1) Push out in the direction indicated by the arrow using a ball point pen or a similar tool. 2) Remove the battery holder . 2. Place the battery . Slide the battery into the holder with the + side facing upwards so that the battery is fixed in the holder .
33 ENGLISH Using the remote contr oller 1 Functions the same as the button on the main unit. 2 • Functions as the BAND button while listening to the r adio (or the D AB tuner). Each time you press the b utton, the band changes. • Functions as the DISC + button while listening to the CD changer .
34 ENGLISH Select the CD automatic changer . Playbac k star ts from the first track of the first disc. All tracks of all discs are pla yed bac k. Playing CDs ¢ 4 CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS This section is ONL Y FOR KD-SX878R, when used with a JVC CD automatic c hanger (separately purchased).
35 ENGLISH T o go to the next tracks or the previous tracks Press ¢ briefly, while playing a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt track. Each time you press the b utton consecutively , the beginning of the next tracks is located and pla yed bac k.
36 ENGLISH T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Each time you press MO RND (Monaur al/Random) while playing a CD , CD random pla y mode changes as follo ws: Mode RND Indicator Plays at random RND1 Lights All tr acks of the current disc , then the tracks of the ne xt disc, and so on.
37 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS CD -CH This section is ONL Y FOR KD-SX878R. Y ou can connect the e xter nal component to the CD changer jac k on the rear using the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 (not supplied).
38 ENGLISH DAB TUNER OPERA TIONS This section is ONL Y FOR KD-SX878R, when used with a JVC D AB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) tuner (separatel y purchased). We recommend that y ou use D AB tuner KT -DB1500 with your unit. If you ha ve another D AB tuner , consult your JVC IN-CAR ENTER T AINMENT dealer .
39 ENGLISH 3 Star t searching an ensemble . When an ensemble is receiv ed, searching stops. 4 Select an service you want to listen to. T o stop searching bef ore an ensemble is received, press the same button y ou hav e pressed f or searching.
40 ENGLISH Storing DAB services in memory Y ou can preset up to 6 D AB ser vices in each DAB band (D AB1, D AB2 and D AB3) manually . 1,2 5 4 3 1 Select the D AB tuner . Each time you press and hold the b utton, the D AB tuner and the FM/AM tuner are alternately selected.
41 ENGLISH 4 Select a ser vice of the ensemble y ou want. 5 Press and hold the number b utton (in this example , 1) f or more than 2 seconds. 6 Repeat the abov e procedure to store other D AB ser vices into other preset numbers . Notes: • A pr eviously preset DAB service is erased when a new DAB service is stor ed in the same pr eset number .
42 ENGLISH T uning into a preset DAB service Y ou can easily tune into a preset D AB ser vice. Remember that you m ust store ser vices first. If you ha ve not stored them y et, see pages 40 and 41. 1 Select the D AB tuner . Each time you press and hold the b utton, the D AB tuner and the FM/AM tuner are alternately selected.
43 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Handling CDs This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO mark. Other discs cannot be play ed back. How to handle CDs When removing a CD fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it by the edges .
44 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not always serious. Check the following points before calling a service center. Symptoms • CD cannot be played back. • CD sound is sometimes interrupted. • Sound is sometimes interrupted. • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers.
