6 ENGLISH RADIO BASIC OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. 2 Start searching a station. When a station is received, searching stops. T o stop searching bef ore a station is received, press the same b utton you ha ve pressed for searching.
7 ENGLISH 1 Select the FM band number (FM1, FM2 or FM3) you want to store FM stations into. 2 Press and hold both b uttons f or more than 2 seconds . Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number y ou hav e selected (FM1, FM2 or FM3).
8 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.3 MHz. See page 6 to tune into a station.
9 ENGLISH T uning into a pr eset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you have not stored them yet, see pages 7 and 8. 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) f or the preset station y ou want.
10 ENGLISH What y ou can do with RDS EON RDS OPERA TIONS RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular programme signals . F or example , the stations send their station names, as well as information about what type of program they broadcast, such as sports or music, etc.
11 ENGLISH Mode 1 The AF indicator lights up but the REG indicator does not. Network-T racking is activ ated with Regionalization set to “off. ” Switches to another station within the same network when the receiving signals from the current station become weak.
12 ENGLISH Using Standby Reception Standb y Reception allows the unit to s witch temporarily to your f av or ite progr amme (PTY : Programme T ype) and T raffic Announcement (T A) from the current source (another FM station, MD , CD , and other connected components).
13 ENGLISH Selecting Y our Favorite Programme for PTY Standby Reception Y ou can select your f av orite programme f or PTY Standby Reception to store in memory . When shipped from the f actor y , “NEWS” is stored as the progr amme type for PTY Standb y Reception.
14 ENGLISH T o store your favorite programme types 2 4 1, 5 3 1 Press and hold SEL (Select) f or more than 2 seconds to call up the Pref erred Setting Mode (PSM: see page 32). 2 Select “PTY SEARCH” if not shown on the displa y . 3 Select one of twenty-nine PTY codes.
15 ENGLISH T o search your favorite pr ogramme type 1 Press and hold PTY (progr amme type) f or more than 1 second while listening to an FM station. The last selected PTY code and preset number appear . 2 Select one of PTY codes stored in preset number buttons (1 to 6).
16 ENGLISH Other con v enient RDS functions and adjustments Automatic selection of the station when using the number buttons Usually when you press the n umber button, the preset station is tuned in. How ev er , when the preset station is an RDS station, something diff erent will happen.
17 ENGLISH Setting the T A volume level Y ou can preset the volume le vel f or T A Standby Reception. When a traffic progr amme is receiv ed, the volume le vel automatically changes to the preset le v el. • See also “Changing the general settings (PSM)” on page 32.

19 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS Playing a CD 1 1 2 1. Insert a CD into the loading slot. The unit tur ns on, dra ws the CD and star ts playbac k automatically . 2. Close the control panel by hand. Open the control panel. If there is already a CD or an MD inside the unit, it ejects automatically .

28 ENGLISH T ur ning on/off the loudness function The human ear is less sensitiv e to low and high frequencies at lo w volumes. The loudness function can boost these frequencies to produce well-balanced sound at lo w volume le vel. Each time y ou press LOUD , the loudness function turns on and off alter nately .

30 ENGLISH Storing your own sound adjustments Y ou can adjust the sound control modes (SCM BEA T , SCM SOFT , SCM POP: see page 28) to your pref erence and store your o wn adjustments in memory . 1 Call up the sound control mode y ou w ant to adjust. See page 28 f or details.

34 ENGLISH Selecting 24-hour or 12-hour clock Y ou can change the clock b uilt in this unit either to 24 hour system or 12 hour system. 1. Press and hold SEL (Select) f or more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . 2. Select “CLOCK24H/12H” with ¢ or 4 .
35 ENGLISH Selecting the dimmer mode When you turn on the car head lights, the displa y automatically dims (A uto Dimmer). When shipped from the f actor y , A uto Dimmer mode is activated. • DIMMER A UT O: Activates A uto Dimmer • DIMMER OFF: Cancels A uto Dimmer • DIMMER ON: Alwa ys dims the displa y 1.
36 ENGLISH When this function is turned on (the CR UISE indicator lights up on the displa y), the proper volume le v el is automatically selected among the 3 possible le vels according to the driving speed, and the selected le v el is sho wn on the display .
37 ENGLISH Selecting the telephone muting This mode is used when a cellular phone system is connected. Depending on the phone system used, select either “MUTING 1” or “MUTING 2”, whiche ver m utes the sounds from this unit. When shipped from the f actory , this mode is deactivated.
38 ENGLISH Selecting the scr oll mode Y ou can select the scroll mode for the name displa y and disc inf ormation if they consist of more than 12 characters. When shipped from the f actor y , Auto Scroll mode is set to “SCROLL ONCE. ” • SCROLL ONCE: Scrolls only once.
39 ENGLISH Assigning names to the sour ces Y ou can assign names to CDs and the e xternal component connected to the LINE IN plugs. After assigning a name, it will appear on the displa y when you select the source .
40 ENGLISH 3 Select the character set you want while “ ” is flashing. Each time you press the button, the character set changes as follows: 4 Select a character . About the a v ailable char acters, see page 41. 5 Move the cursor to the next (or previous) character position.

42 ENGLISH How to detach the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to tur n off the pow er . 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Pull the control panel out of the unit.
43 ENGLISH REMOTE OPERA TIONS 1. Remove the battery holder . 1) Push out in the direction indicated b y the arrow using a ball point pen or a similar tool. 2) Remo ve the battery holder . 2. Place the battery . Slide the batter y into the holder with the + side f acing upwards so that the battery is fixed in the holder .
44 ENGLISH Using the r emote contr oller 1 Functions the same as the button on the main unit. 2 • Functions as the BAND b utton while listening to the radio (or the D AB tuner). Each time y ou press the button, the band changes . • Functions as the DISC + button while listening to the CD changer .
45 ENGLISH Select the CD automatic changer . Each time you press the button, you can select the CD automatic changer and the e xter nal component alter nately . Playback starts from the first track of the first disc. All tracks of all discs are played back.

50 ENGLISH Storing D AB ser vices in memory Y ou can preset up to 6 D AB services in each DAB band (D AB1, D AB2 and D AB3) manually . 1 Select the D AB tuner . Each time y ou press and hold the button, the D AB tuner and the FM/AM tuner are alter nately selected.

54 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Handling Discs T aking care of CDs This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO or mar k. Other discs cannot be pla y ed back. How to handle CDs When removing a CD fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it b y the edges.
55 ENGLISH T aking care of MDs Since the disc is accommodated inside a cartridge, it can be handled easily without caring about dust and dir t. Howe ver , to maintain the high audio quality f or an e xtended period, use care in the following points.
