Headphone or Earphone Connection Y ou can connect a pair of headphones or ear phone to the television using the headphone jac k on the front panel. Models A V -20320 and A V -20321 hav e a headphone jack. Models C-13310, C-13311 and C-20310 hav e an ear phone jack.
Changing the Batteries Raise the latch on the remote’ s back cov er to remove it. Inser t two AA batteries (supplied), carefully noting the "+" and "–" mar kings on the batteries and on the remote control. T o avoid a potential short circuit, inser t the "–" end first.
Onscreen Menus 18 Using the Guide The Onscreen Menus Cer tain symbols are used throughout this guide to help you learn about the features of y our new tele vision. The ones you will see most frequently are: " # Up and Down arrows mean press the C HANNEL U P or C HANNEL D OWN b uttons .
Initial Setup 19 Au to T uner Setup In Auto T uner Setup, the TV automatically scans through all av ailable channels, memorizing the active ones and skipping o ver blank ones or channels with weak signals . This means when you scan (using the C HANNEL +/– buttons) you will receiv e only clear , active channels.
Initial Setup 20 Channel Summary Channel Summary allows you to customize the line-up of channels receiv ed by your TV . Y ou can add or delete channels from the line-up or prev ent any unauthorized viewers from w atch- ing any or all 181 channels.
21 V -Chip Y our TV is equipped with V -Chip technology which enables TV P arental Guidelines (for United States and Canada) and Movie (MP AA) Guideline controls. V -Chip technology allows you to program y our TV to receive, or not to receiv e, programs based on content according to the guidelines.
22 V -Chip Viewing Guidelines US V -Chip Ratings U. S. P ARENT AL RA TING SYSTEMS Programs with the f ollowing ratings are appropriate for c hildren. ❒ TV Y is Appropriate for All Children. Programs are created f or very young viewers and should be suitab le for all ages, including children ages 2 - 6.
23 V -Chip Line up the cursor in the column (TV PG, TV G, etc.) with the content row (V/FV , S, etc.) and press the " or #! to mov e the cursor to the correct location. Press $ or % to turn the locking feature on or off. An item is locked if the icon appears instead of a “—”.
24 V -Chip Setting ratings with the V -Chip b utton Example 2: If you w ant to set your V -Chip settings to bloc k all programming abov e a current setting such as TV PG-V (with violence): Press Z ERO when TV -PG - V is displayed All Programming abo ve TV PG - V (with Violence) will be b locked.
V -Chip ❒ NR - Not Rated. This is a film which has no rating. In many cases these films were impor ted from countries which do not use the MP AA ratings system. Other NR films ma y be from amateur producers who didn’t intend to hav e their film widely released.
26 V -Chip ❒ E - Exempt. Exempt prog ramming includes: news, spor ts, documentaries and other information programming, talk sho ws, music videos , and variety programming. ❒ C – Programming Intended f or Children. Violence Guidelines: There will be no realistic scenes of violence.
27 V -Chip Unrated Programs Notes About Unrated Programs: Unrated programming ref ers to any programming which does not contain a r ating signal. Programming on tele vision stations which do not broadcast rating signals will be placed in the “Unrated Programming" category .
28 V -Chip Set Lock Code Channel Guard and V -Chip settings are protected by a f our-digit Lock Code. Y our TV comes pre-set with a Lock Code of "0000". Y ou may change the code to an y four-digit n umber you wish. T o change the Lock Code, f ollow the steps below .

Picture Settings 30 Noise Muting Set Video Status This feature inserts a blank blue screen o ver channels which are not broadcasting or are too w eak to be receiv ed clearly .
Sound Settings 31 Y ou can increase or decrease the lev el of low-frequency sound in the TV’s audio with the Bass adjustment. Press the M ENU bu tton " # To BASS % To increase the bass $ To decrease the bass " # To move to the ne xt setting Use T reble to adjust the lev el of high-frequency sound in your TV’ s audio .
Sound Settings 32 MTS technology allows sev eral audio signals to be broadcast at once, giving you a choice in what you wish to hear with a TV program. In addition to mono or stereo sound, an MTS broad- cast may also include a Second A udio Program (SAP) .
General Items 33 A uto Clock Set Before y ou use any of your TV’ s timer functions, you must first set the cloc k. Y ou may precisely set your cloc k using the XDS time signal broadcast by most Public Broadcasting stations.
