The machine runs at the maximum speed set by the speed control slider when the f oot control is fully de- pressed. 8 1 2 1 2 To Drop or Raise the Feed Dog The drop feed dog le ver is located underneath the free arm bed on the back side of the machine. q To drop the feed dog, push the le ver in the direction of the arrow , as illustrated. w To raise the f eed dog, push the lev er in the direction of the arrow , as illustrated, and turn the handwheel toward y ou.
9 Changing Needle Selecting Thread and Needles F or gener al sewing, use needle siz e 11/75 or 14/90. A fine thread and needle should be used f or sewing lightweight f abrics, so the fabric will no be marred. Hea vy f abrics requires a needle large enough to the f abric without fra ying the needle thread.

16 • T o sew Raise the presser f oot and position the f abr ic ne xt to a seam guide line on the needle plate (5/8 ˝ (1.6 cm) is most common). Lower the needle to the point where y ou want to star t. Lower the presser f oot and pull the threads tow ard the back.

The numbers on the needle plate indicate the distance between the center needle position and the edge of the f abric.

31 • Adjusting the needle drop position The needle drop position can be adjusted by pressing stitch width adjusting button. (1) Press the minus (–) ke y to mov e the needle drop position to the right. (2) Press the plus (+) ke y to mov e the needle drop position to the left.
