6 Document Conventions Throughout the document, nor mal te xt like this indicates procedures required to correctly configure your de vice. Critical instr uctions and helpful configuration tips are highlighted in italics throughout the te xt.
7 Getting Started W e assume f or the pur poses of this user le v el manual that y our phone system administrator or installation engineer has setup y our V oIP P ABX and phones.
8 Using the W eb Inter face The P ABX has a personal web interf ace for each user which ma y be used to view phone inf or mation and mak e changes to your user settings and pref erences.
9 As a first step after initial logon, y ou should select "Change passw ord" from the menu, and set y our pass word to something of y our own choosing.
10 Numbers from all of the abov e sources are merged and the resultant director y sor ted by name as it would be on the phone f or displa y . my messages This screen allows y ou to view and manage mes.
11 my details This is the main area where general details and pref erences may be changed: Name Y our full name as it appears in the director y and on calls to other users E-mail Address The address to which notifications will be deliv ered f or this login.
12 my phone Details about your o wn extension and ph ysical phone may be vie wed and changed from this page. A number of links are present, which re veal fur ther inf or mation about the e xtension or phone. F or security and confidentiality reasons these do not open out when the page is initially displa yed.
13 This section shows e xactly how the e xtensions and/or shor t dial buttons ha ve been configured on y our phone. This inf or mation can be used to fill out an inser t card, or otherwise note which buttons and indicators correspond to which line or function on your phone .
14 Using the Open Communications Manager The OCM provides the ability to manage phone calls and presence from a PC running a web-browser without the installation of an y special software on the desktop .
15 Changing Settings and Status The two icons on the top left of the OCM Window are used to access menu items from which settings and user status can be changed.
16 Using IM Clients with the P ABX Some models of P ABX unit contain a full XMPP ser ver which can be used to e xchange instant messages and presence inf or mation with other users of the P ABX using a suitable IM client.
17 Phone Usage The f ollowing sections giv e information about how to perf or m cer tain common operations on selected popular handsets . If the inf or mation about a specific f eature or phone is not shown here, please consult the manuf acturers documentation.
18 Setting up a 3-way Conference This f acility is not av ailable without customisation of the phone . Picking up V oicemail If v oicemail is waiting (Message light flashes), press without dialling a number to connect to the v oicemail system. Alter natively dial whate v er shor t-code has been configured on your P ABX.
19 Speak with the callee when ans wered. If only 2 lines are active , simply hang-up . If more callers are present, you need to choose the line to transf er ; Press “T ransf er” use left/r ight arrows to displa y line to transf er , then press .
20 Attended : Press T rnsfer , enter the destination n umber and press Send or the Dial ke y where present. Speak to the callee when ans wered. Press T rnsfer when ready to transf er the call. Setting up a 3-way Conference Call the first par ty as nor mal.

22 Aastra 480i Placing a Call There are 3 wa ys to place a call: 1 Completely Handsfree - Dial the number and press “Dial”. 2 Handsfree Dialling - Dial the number and pic k up the handset. 3 Handset dialling - Pick up , dial the number and press “Dial”.

24 Answering multiple calls If a line light is flashing f or the new call, it can be pressed to ans wer the call, otherwise select “Ans wer” from the screen menu.
25 T ransferring a Call Unattended : Press “Xf er”, enter the destination number and press “Dial”. Press “Xf er” again. Attended : Press “Xf er”, enter the destination number and press “Dial”. Speak to the callee when answ ered. Press “Xf er” when ready to transf er the call.

27 Switch between calls b y pressing the line button of the caller y ou wish to speak to . Each call can be disconnected independently by hanging up the caller you are speaking to . T ransferring a Call Unattended : Click “XFER”, dial the destination number , and press “XFER”.
