6 Overview Bluetooth is a low-power wireless networking standar d which uses short radio waves to allow electronic devices to communicate with each other without using cables. The following applications are supported by Bluetooth ® technology: Synchronize your Bluetooth PDA with your computer .
7 Most Bluetooth-enabled devices have the capability to act as: A Bluetooth server - these devices provide one or mor e services, such as access to the Internet, or • to other Bluetooth devices. A Bluetooth client - these devices use the service(s) provided by Bluetooth servers.

10 Intr oduction IOGEAR ® ’ s Bluetooth ® 2.0 USB Micro Adapter is a Class 2 device with a wir eless working distance of up to 30 feet (10 meters). This device allows any computer with USB connections to become a Bluetooth™ enabled computer . It complies with Bluetooth 2.
11 Installation-Windows XP The Microsoft Bluetooth stack comes included with Service Pack 2 for W indows XP . If you already have Service Pack 2 installed, you may choose not to install drivers from the installation CD and instead use the Microsoft Bluetooth drivers.
12 Click on 2. Next to continue The wizard is now r eady to being the 3. installation. Click Install to continue..
13 If you accept the license agreement, click 4. Next . When you approach the end of the 5. installation process, the Driver Signatur e Notice may appear .
14 During the install, a “Bluetooth Device not 6. Found” window will appear . Do not plug in the Bluetooth ® adapter at this time, click Cancel to continue.
15 In order to complete the Bluetooth installation 8. software you will be asked to Log of f from your computer . Click Y es to log of f..
16 Initial Bluetooth Con fi guration Wizard - Windows XP Click 2. Next to continue. For Windows XP Double click on the Bluetooth icon in the 1. system tray .
17 Next, enter a unique name for this computer . 3. This name will be displayed to other Bluetooth devices. Select a computer type from the dr op-down menu and click Next . Click 4. Next to con fi gure the services this computer will offer to other Bluetooth devices.
18 Select the services that you would like your 5. computer to offer . Click Next to proceed. The Bluetooth software will install the 6. selected services.
19 Installation-Windows V ista Insert the IOGEAR installation CD into your 1. CD-ROM drive. Make sure the IOGEAR Bluetooth adapter is NOT plugged into the computer before installing the softwar e. Insert the IOGEAR installation CD into your CD-ROM drive.
20 Click Next to continue. 3. If you accept the agreement, click 4. Next to continue..
21 Click 6. Install to being the installation. Click 5. Next to continue..
22 During the install, a “Bluetooth Device not 8. Found” window will appear . DO NOT plug in the Bluetooth adapter at this time, simply click Cancel to proceed with the driver installation without connecting the Bluetooth device. If you are pr ompted by the windows security 7.
23 Click 9. Finish to complete the installation. In order to complete the Bluetooth softwar e 10. installation, you will be asked to Log off fr om your computer .
24 Initial Bluetooth Con fi guration Wizard - V ista Double click on the Bluetooth icon in the 1. system tray . This will start the “Initial Bluetooth Con fi guration W izard.
25 Enter a unique name for this computer . This 3. name will be displayed to other Bluetooth devices. Select a computer type from the drop-down menu and click Next . Click 4. Next to con fi gure the services this computer will offer to other Bluetooth devices.
26 Select the services that you would like your 5. computer to offer . Click Next to proceed. The Bluetooth software will install the 6. selected services. This process may take a while. If you wish to setup a Bluetooth device now 7. click Next . Otherwise click Skip and click Finish on the fi nal screen to end the Bluetooth wizard.
27 Uninstall Drivers Windows XP Service Pack 2 First, unplug the IOGEAR USB Bluetooth 1. ® 2.0 USB Micro Adapter fr om your computer Go to Control Panel (Start > Settings > 2. Control Panel) Click on 3. Add or Remove Programs Click on IOGEAR Bluetooth Software and 4.
28 Installation-Mac OS X Use of the IOGEAR Bluetooth 1. ® 2.0 USB Micro Adapter r equires MAC OS X v10.3.9 or later . There is no need to install any additional drivers, as Apple provides all r equired Bluetooth drivers under Mac OS X v10.
29 This will initiate the Bluetooth Setup Assistant; 4. click Continue to proceed If you have already connected a device 3. under 10.5 the Bluetooth window will look like this. Instead of clicking the Set Up New Device button, click the button with a plus (+) symbol below the device list.
30 On this window , you can select what type of 5. Bluetooth device you want to setup. Please make your choice below and then click Continue . Y our computer will search Bluetooth 6. devices in your area and display them under the window below . Select the device you wish to communicate with and then click Continue to pair/connect to your device.
31 Connect to a Cellular Phone How to connect to a Cellular Phone (Bluetooth Enable) For Windows XP Double-click on the IOGEAR Bluetooth icon 1. in the system tray . Next, click on 2. Search for devices in range . As illustrated below , the Bluetooth-enabled cell phone is detected.
32 T o pair with your cell phone, right click on the 3. cell phone that you would like to connect and select Pair Device . Note: Y our cell phone will prompt you to enter the same security code. Make sure you enter the same security code as on the computer .
33 To fi nd out what services are available on your 5. phone, simply double click on the phone icon. Services offer ed by your cell phone may depend on the features supported by your speci fi c model and may or may not requir e ad- ditional software by the phone manufactur er .
34 Bluetooth Phone setup on Windows XP Right click on the system tray and select 1. Add a Bluetooth Device Make sure to set your Bluetooth cellular 2. phone in “discoverable” mode.
35 Y our computer will search for all Bluetooth 3. devices in your area and list them as shown below . Select your cellular phone and click Next. If your cell phone has a speci fi c passkey you 4. will need to enter it on the Bluetooth security code box, otherwise please enter a random 4 digit passkey and click Pair Now .
36 Y ou will be asked to select the services 5. that are available on your phone. It is recommended to leave all services checked. Click Finish to continue. Note: Y our cell phone will prompt you to enter the same security code. Make sure you enter the same security code as on the computer to complete the pairing process.
37 Connect to Network Access For Windows XP Double-click on the Bluetooth icon in the 1. system tray . Next, click on 2. Search for devices in range . As illustrated below , the Bluetooth-enabled computer is found.
38 Double click on the device to display a list of 3. its services. T o establish a network connection, right click on Network Access and select Connect to Network Access Point . A message by the Bluetooth software will 4. appear below the task bar . Double click on the bluetooth icon or on the message bubble.
39 Note: Once you click OK, you will be prompted to accept/deny the connection on the other computer . Y ou will be asked to enter a security code to 5. establish a secure Blueooth connection with the other PC. Please enter a 4 digit security code and click OK .
40 For Windows Vista Double click on the Bluetooth icon in the task 1. bar to bring up My Bluetooth Places. Double click on 2. Find Bluetooth Devices.
41 Y our computer will search for all Bluetooth 3. devices around your ar ea. T o connect to a Bluetooth computer , right click on the Bluetooth computer that you would like to connect and select Pair Device . T o establish a secure connection with the 4.
42 On the other Bluetooth enabled computer 5. that you are attempting to connect, you will receive a message on the task bar asking for permission to establish the Bluetooth connection. If you accept the connection, it will ask you to enter the same security code that you enetred on the fi rst computer .
43 As an example, we will establish a connection 7. using the Network Access service. T o do so, right click on the Network Access and select Connect to Network Access Point.
44 A Bluetooth connection is shown when you 9. open Computer from the start menu. Now your device will be able to share its internet connection, printers, and fi les. (Make sure the desired shar e options’ checkboxes are checked under Bluetooth setting by right-clicking on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray .
45 Connect to a Printer How to connect to a Bluetooth Enabled Printer Double-click on the IOGEAR Bluetooth icon in 1. the system tray . Next, double click on “ 2.
46 Right-click the printer you would like to add and 3. select Add Printer . Click 4. OK to install the printer . Note: If this is a new printer you are setting up, you will need to install the driver and software of your printer . Please follow the printer setup wizard to setup your printer .
47 If your printer is already installed, the printer 5. properties window will appear . Click on Print T est Page to print a test page..
48 How to connect to a Bluetooth Enabled Printer Double-click on the IOGEAR Bluetooth icon 1. in the system tray . Double click on 2. Find Bluetooth Devices For Windows Vista.
49 Please make sure that your Bluetooth enabled 3. printer is powered on. An icon of your printer will show up on the Bluetooth window . Right click on the printer and select Add Printer .
50 Connect to a PDA How to connect to a Bluetooth Enabled PDA For Windows XP Double-click on the Bluetooth icon in the 1. system tray . Next, double click on “ 2.
51 Right click on the Bluetooth enabled PDA 3. device and select Pair Device to establish the connection with the PDA. Y ou will be asked to enter a four digit 4. security code. Please enter a random 4 digit passkey and click OK to continue. Note: Y our PDA will prompt you to enter the same security code .

53 How to connect to a Bluetooth Enabled PDA For Windows Vista Right click on the Bluetooth icon next to 1. the task bar and select “Add a Bluetooth Device” .
54 The Bluetooth Setup wizard will identify all 3. Bluetooth devices arround your ar ea. Select the PDA and click Next to continue. Y ou will be asked to enter a security code 4. to connect with the PDA. Please enter a random 4 digit code and click Pair Now .
55 Y our PDA will prompt you to enter the same 5. security code. Enter the security code on your PDA to establish the Bluetooth connection. Depending on your PDA, you will be asked to 6. select the services that are equipped on your PDA. Select the services that you would like to use and click Finish.
56 Pairing What is “Pairing?” Pairing is a Bluetooth function that enables Bluetooth devices to remain permanently linked to another . What “Pairing” means in terms of security? As mentioned, Pairing allows devices to permanently link with each other .
57 Pairing Devices Right-click on the Bluetooth device and select 1. on “Pair device” . Enter a Pass Key when asked. 2. Note: The Pass Key on both devices must be the same! Example: If Device 1 tries to pair with Device 2, Device 1 will prompt for a Pass Key .
58 Installation-Windows XP Service Pack 2 Windows XP Service Pack-Bluetooth Stack If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you may use the Bluetooth drivers provided by Micr osoft. Keep in mind, however , that this Bluetooth stack has limited Bluetooth pro fi les support.
