1 Ser ver Boar d Features This chapter briefly describes th e main featu res of the Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA. This chapter provides a photograph of the prod uct, a list of the server board features, and diagrams sh owing the location of i mportant components an d connections on th e server board.
2 Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’ s Guide Ta b l e 2 summarizes the features of the server board. 1 Although current design suppor ts use of DDR2 667 modules, no memor y validation has been performed with the ser ver board due to limited sample a vailability of these modules.
Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’s Guide 3 RAID Suppor t The Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA is available in both SA T A and SAS models. The SA T A model has order code S5000VSASA T A. The SAS mod el has order code S5000VSASAS. The SAS model provides both SAS and SA T A support; the SA T A model provides only SA T A support.
4 Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’ s Guide SAS Server Board In addition to the SA T A features described ab ove, SAS models of the server board (order code S5000VSASAS) also have a dual-mod e 4-port Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) controller that supports both SA S and SA T A hard disk drives.

10 Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’ s Guide In a mirrored system, the maxi mum usable memory is one-half of the installed memory , with a minimum of four DIMMs installed. Sinc e the data is duplicat ed across D IMMs, it means that up to one-half of the installed DIMMs are actively in use a t any one time.
2 Ser ver Utilities Using the BIOS Setup Utility This section describes the BIOS Setup Utility options, which is used to change server configuration defau lts.

Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’s Guide 13 Upgrading the BIOS The upgrade utility allows you to upgrade the BIOS in fl ash me mory . The code and data in the upgrade file in clude the following: • On-board system BIOS, in cluding the recovery code , BIOS Setup Utility , and strings.
14 Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’ s Guide Obtaining the Upgr ade Download the BIOS image file to a temporary folder on your hard drive or a USB flash device.
Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’s Guide 15 Clearing the P assw ord If the user or administrator password(s) is lost or for gotten, moving the password clear jumper into the "clear" posit i on clears both passwords. Th e password clea r jumper must be restored to its original position befo re a ne w password(s) can be set.
16 Intel ® Server Board S5000VSA User’ s Guide Clearing the CMOS If you are not able to access the BIOS setup sc reens, the CMOS Clear jumper will need to be used to reset the configuration RAM. 1. Power down the system an d disc onnect the AC power .

When the battery st arts to weaken, it loses voltage , and the server settings stored in CMOS RAM in the R TC (for example, the date and time) may be wrong.

For any issue, first ensure you are using the latest firmware and files. Firmware upgrades include updates for BIOS, the baseboard management controller (BMC), an d the hot-swap controller (HSC).
