10 Introduction —Continued Supported Discs The DPS-10.5 supports the following discs. • Some audio CDs feature copy protection that doesn’ t conform to the official CD standard. Since these are nonstandard discs, they may not play properly in the DPS-10.
11 Introduction —Continued Video CDs The DPS-10.5 supports V ersion 1.1 and V ersion 2.0 of the V ideo CD standard. V ersion 2.0 supports PBC (Play- back Control). • V ideo CD (V ersion 1.1) On the DPS-10.5, the contents of V ideo CDs that con- form to V ersion 1.
12 Introduction —Continued ■ D VD-VR D VD-VR discs contain programs, which may be subdivided into cells. They may also contain playlists. ■ CD CDs contain tracks. ■ MP3 MP3 discs contain MP3 tracks organized into folders. ■ JPEG JPEG discs contain pictures organized into folders.
13 Introduction —Continued ■ CD-R (compact disc recordab le): A type of CD that can be recorded only once. Can be used for VCD, CD, MP3, or JPEG. ■ CD-R W (compact disc rewritable): A type of CD that can be recorded ov er and over again. Can be used for VCD, CD, MP3, or JPEG.
14 Introduction —Continued ■ MPEG1 (Moving Picture Experts Group 1): The compressed digital video format used for VCDs. ■ MPEG2 (Moving Picture Experts Group 2): The compressed digital video format used for D VDs, offering better picture quality than MPEG1.

21 Getting to Know the DPS-10.5 —Continued N Play [ ] b utton (42) This button is used to start playback. O Previous/Ne xt [ ]/[ ] buttons (44, 45, 48) The Previous [ ] button is used to select the pre- vious chapter or track. During playback it selects the beginning of the current chapter or track.
22 Getting to Know the DPS-10.5 —Continued Controlling an Integra A V Receiver (Amp Mode) In Amp mode, the remote controller can be used to con- trol an Integra A V receiv er connected to the DPS-10.5 via . T o select Amp mode, press the [Amp] Mode button.
23 Connecting This chapter explains ho w to connect the DPS-10.5 to your other A V components. • Read the manuals supplied with your A V components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’v e completed all audio and video connections. Optical Digital Outputs The DPS-10.
24 Connecting —Continued The DPS-10.5 supports sev eral video input formats. The follo wing table shows what’ s output by each video output when each of the video inputs is selected. It also shows whether or not the video is upcon verted to progressi ve video.

27 Connecting —Continued This section shows ho w to connect the DPS-10.5 to a standard TV , in which the TV handles both the video and audio. If your TV has a Dolby Pro Logic decoder b uilt- in, you’ll be able to enjoy D VDs that bear the Dolby Sur- round logo.

Alternativ ely , you can connect the DPS-10.5 directly to the HDMI input on your TV . Notes: • Use the Digital Out/Digital 2 settings to match the HDMI output format with your HDTV (see page 71).
30 Connecting —Continued This section shows ho w to connect the DPS-10.5’ s video outputs to an A V receiver’ s video inputs. Component video offers the best picture quality , so if your A V receiver supports it, use a commercially a vail- able component video cable to connect the DPS-10.

What is i.LINK? i.LINK is a brand name for IEEE 1394 , the high-speed serial connection format commonly used on computers, camcorders, and other A V equipment to carry digital video and audio or other data.
32 Connecting —Continued Connecting Several i.LINK Components W ith i.LINK it’ s possible to connect up to 17 compo- nents together , making the digital audio and control sig- nals of each component av ailable to all the other components. By using what’ s called an i.

35 Connecting —Continued If your TV supports progressi ve scanning, you can con- nect another video component (satellite/cable tuner , LD player , etc.) to the DPS-10.5 and it will upcon vert inter - laced video to progressiv e for improv ed picture quality .
36 Connecting —Continued W ith (Remote Interactive) you can control the DPS-10.5 by using the remote controller supplied with your Integra -compatible A V receiver . Notes: • Push the plugs in all the way to make a good connec- tion. • Use only cables for connections.
37 Connecting —Continued Connect the IR receiv er to the DPS-10.5 as shown belo w . Controlling Other Out-of-range Components F or another component that is out of range of its remote controller , you can use a commercially av ailable IR emitter to retransmit the remote controller signals receiv ed at the DPS-10.
38 Connecting —Continued The DPS-10.5 must be in Standby mode for this procedure to work. T urning On the DPS-10.5 1 Press the [Standby/On] b utton. The display light ups and the Standby indicator goes off. The very first time you turn on the DPS-10.
39 Initial Setup This chapter explains the settings you need to make the very first time the DPS-10.5 is turned on. The very first time you turn on the DPS-10.5, the Initial Setup menu appears onscreen. Here you need to make a fe w settings to get the DPS-10.
40 Initial Setup —Continued Notes: •Y ou can change the language of the onscreen setup menus, and specify your preferred languages for D VD menus, soundtracks, and subtitles on the Language menu (see page 77). • When a D VD doesn’t ha ve menus, soundtracks, and subtitles in different languages, its def ault language is used.
41 Basic Pla ybac k This chapter explains the DPS-10.5’ s basic playback functions. Don’t for get to turn on your TV or projector and select the video input to which the DPS-10.5 is connected. If you’ re using an A V receiv er or hi-fi amp for audio playback, turn that on as well and select the audio input to which the DPS-10.
42 Basic Playbac k —Continued This section explains ho w to start, pause, and stop playback. Notes: • During playback, you can select chapters or tracks by using the Next [ ] and Pre vious [ ] buttons. The first press of the Previous [ ] button selects the beginning of the current chapter or track.
43 Basic Playbac k —Continued D VD-V ideo discs usually have a menu from which you can select titles, chapters, and other options, including soundtracks, subtitles, and audio formats (e.g., Dolby Digital or DTS). VCDs that support PBC (Playback Control) may also hav e an onscreen menu (see page 11).
44 Basic Playbac k —Continued W ith the Search function you can select chapters and titles by number . Notes: • During playback you can select chapters directly by using the number buttons. T o select chapter #2, simply press [2] and playback starts.

47 Basic Playbac k —Continued W ith slow-motion playback you can w atch a scene slowly either forw ard or backward. Notes: • There are four slow-motion speeds for D VD-V ideo/ D VD-VR and three for VCD. • Backward slo w-motion playback does not work with D VD-VR and VCD discs.
48 Basic Playbac k —Continued This section explains ho w to play MP3 tracks with the Disc Navigator . Navigating MP3 Discs 1 Load an MP3 disc (page 41). The Disc Navigator appears. Initially , the T rack list shows all of the folders at the root lev el.

51 Basic Playbac k —Continued 2 To add a file to the pla ylist, use the [ ], [ ], [ ], [ ] buttons to select it in the T rack list, and then press the [Enter] button. To add an entire folder to the playlist, select the folder at the top of the T rack list and press [Enter].
52 Ad v anced Pla ybac k W ith the Zoom function you can enlarge an y part of the picture. Notes: • The Zoom function may not work with some D VDs. • The Zoom function can also be used while playback is paused or during slow-motion playback. • The Zoom function cannot be used to zoom menus.
53 Adv anced Playbac k —Continued W ith the Repeat function you can play a disc, title, chap- ter , group, track, or folder (MP3/JPEG) ov er-and-ov er again. Notes: • Repeat playback may not work with some D VD-V ideo discs. • The Repeat function can be used in combination with the Random function (see page 54).
54 Adv anced Playbac k —Continued W ith the Random function you can enjoy a random selection of titles, chapters, groups, tracks, MP3s, or JPEG images. Notes: •T o select the next title, chapter , group, track, MP3, or JPEG image during random playback, press the Next [] button.

72 Configuring the DPS-10.5 —Continued Analog A udio Out W ith this setting you can configure the FR ONT , SURR 1/SURR 2, CENTER, and SUBWOOFER A UDIO OUT sockets for use with a 2-channel amp or a multichannel amp. Notes: • When the i.LINK Output Setting is set to On, this set- ting is unav ailable.
73 Configuring the DPS-10.5 —Continued Setting the Speaker Settings 1 Use the Up and Down [ ]/[ ] buttons to select Speaker Set- ting, press the [Enter] button, use the Up and Down [ ]/[ ] b ut- tons to select On, and then press the [Enter] button.
74 Configuring the DPS-10.5 —Continued Setting the Speaker Distances Note: • The Speaker Distance settings hav e no effect on SA CD (multichannel area and 2-channel area) and 192 kHz/176.
75 Configuring the DPS-10.5 —Continued Setting Levels With the T est T one AV Synchronization When using progressiv e scanning you may find that the picture and sound are out of sync. W ith this setting you can delay the audio to correct this. There are three setup memories (1, 2, 3) for storing settings for up to three components.
