1 INTR ODUCTION The In Focus LP 740™ is a multimedia pr o jector that packs SXGA graphics (1280x1 024) with 16 .7 million colors. It generates crisp, clear images using a new and innovative r eflective technology .

4 Intr oduc tion Usag e Guidelines • Do not loo k direct ly in to th e proje ction lens wh en th e projec tor is turned on. The bright light may harm your eyes. • Do not block the grills on the projector . Restri cting the ai r flow can cause it to over heat a nd turn of f.
5 SETTING UP THE PR OJECTOR 1 Place the pr ojector on a flat surface parallel to the floor . • The pr ojector must be within 10 feet (3 m) of your power source a nd within 6 feet (1. 8 m) of your computer . 6 Setti ng up the Pr ojec tor NO TE : Before you continue, mak e sure the pr ojector and your equipment are turned off. If you’ re connecting a computer , mak e sure the distance betw een it and the pro jector is 6 f eet or less.
7 Connecting a Computer NO TE: T o co nnect a workstation, use the appr opr iate adaptor s betw een the computer and moni- tor cables . T o connect a Macintosh compute r , you m ust purchase the appr opriate adaptor s . 1 (Desktop models only) Locate the cable that connects the monitor to y our com puter .
8 Setti ng up the Pr ojec tor Conne cting a V ideo Pl a y e r 1 If your video player uses a r o und, one-pr ong composite video connector, you’ll need the audio and video ca bles. • If your video player uses a round, four- prong S -video con- nector , you’ll need the S-video cable and the audio cable .
9 P o wering u p the Pr ojector and Adjustin g the Ima ge NO TE : Always us e the pow er cord that shipped with the pr ojector . 1 Remove the lens cap. 2 Plug the power cord into the back of the proj ector, then plug it into your electrical outlet. A sur ge-pr otected power strip is reco mmended if power sur ges are co mmon in your ar ea.
10 Setti ng up the Pr ojec tor NO TE : With some computers, the order in whic h you pow e r up the equipment is ver y impor tant. Most computers should be turned on last, after all other per ipher als have been turned on. Refer to your computer’ s documenta tion to determine the co rrect o rder .
11 USING T HE PR OJECTOR This section describes how to use an d make adjustments to the pro jector . It also pr ovides a r efer ence to the r emote and keypad buttons and the opti ons available from the on-screen menus.
12 Using the Pr ojecto r The pr ojector is equipped with 2 self-locking foot adjuster but- tons (Figure 1 2). They can vary in length from 0 to 50mm, allow- ing you to adjus t the angle of projection. T o raise the pr ojector: 1 Press and hold the foot adjuster buttons (Fi gure 12).

14 Using the Pr ojecto r P owe r This turns the pr ojector of f and on. Pr ess and hold the Pow e r but- ton for 2 seconds to turn the projector of f. Sour ce (Co mputer , Video , or S- Video on r e mote) When you have mor e than o ne source (computer or video) con- nected to the pr ojector , select between them by pr essing the Source button .
15 Remote Co ntrol Only Buttons Auto This activates the automatic signal detection and image adjust- ment. When the a djustments are comp lete, you have the option of sending them to the projector or returning to the previous set- tings. Bright Press this button to open the Brightness co ntrol to brighten or darken the image.
16 Using the Pr ojecto r Using the On-Scr een Men us The projector ha s on- scr een menus that allo w you to make im age adjustments and change a variety of settings. Most o f these adjustments aren’t ava ilable directly fr om the r emote or keypad.

25 MAINTENANCE & T R OUBL ESHOOTING This section describes how to: • clean the lens • clean the fan filter • r eplace the pr ojection lamp • tr oubleshoot the pr ojector Cleaning the Len s Follow these steps to clean the pro jection lens: 1 Apply a non-abrasive cam era lens cleaner to a soft, dry cloth.

29 T roubles hoo ting Prob lem: Nothin g on projecti on screen • Make sure that the power cord is pr op erly connected to a func- tional AC electrical outlet. Make sure tha t the power cor d is also pr operly connected to the pr ojector . • If the pr ojector is plugged into a power strip, make sure th e power strip is turned on.

31 Pr ob lem: Ima g e is out of f ocus • T urn the projection lens to focus the image. • Make sur e the pr ojection scr een is at least 5 feet (1.5 m ) from the pr ojector . • Check the pr ojection lens to see if it needs cleaning. Prob lem: Image and menus are re versed left to ri ght • Rear pr ojection mode is pr obably turned on.
32 Mainte nance & T ro ubleshoot ing Pr ob lem: Lamp seems to be g etting dimmer • The lamp begins to lose brightnes s when it has been in use for a long time. Replace the la mp as described in “Replacing the Pr ojection Lamp” on page 26. Pr ob lem: Lamp shu ts off • A minor power sur g e may cause the lamp to shut off.
