5 Intr oduction Y our new digital projec tor pr ovides co mputer and v ideo inputs and has XGA 1024x768 r esolution. The projector i s easy to connect, easy t o use, easy to mainta in. An In teracti ve Display on the top o f the projector g ives you constant feedba ck on the status of t he projector .
6 Connec tor P anel The LP540 provides one computer and two video connectors: • one M1-D/ A (HD, DVI, and computer) • one S-vi deo •o n e c o m p o s i t e R C A It al so has an RS-232 serial con nector for serial c ontr ol. The Command Lin e Interfac e (CLI) specifications and comma nds are on our webs ite.
7 Connecting a computer Required compute r connection s Connect the black end of the computer cable to the to the Comput er 1 con- nector on the pr ojector . Connect the blue end to the video po rt on your com- puter . If you are using a desk top computer , you first need to disco nnect the monitor cable from the computer ’s video port.
8 If you prefer connecti ng your LP640 to your compu ter with an optional VESA cable, conn ect one end of th e cable to the VESA port on your com- puter , an d connec t the othe r end of th e cable t o the blue Computer 2 con - nector on the pr ojector .
9 Displa ying a computer image Remove the lens cap. Pr ess the Po w e r button on the top of the projecto r or the remote. The LED fla shes gr een and the fans start to run. When the lamp comes on, the sta rtup scr een is displayed an d the LED is steady gr een.
10 First-time pr ojector use with Windo ws 98 The first time you connect a computer running W i ndows 98 to the projector , the computer recognizes the project or as “new h ardwar e” and the Add Ne w H a rd wa re W iz ard a pp e a rs .

12 Adjusting the imag e Adjust the height of the pr ojector , if n ecessary , by pressing the r elease but - ton to extend the elevator foot. Rotate th e level ing foot (locate d at the bo ttom ba ck righ t corner ), if ne ces- sary . Position the projector the d esired distance fr om the scr een at a 90 degree angle to the scre en.
13 Connecting a video de vice Standard v ideo co nnecti ons Plug the audio/ video (A/V) cable’s yellow connector into the video-out connector on the v ideo device. Plug the o ther yellow connec tor into the yel- low Video 2 connect or on the projector .
14 Displa ying a video ima g e Remove the lens cap. Press t he Po w e r button on th e top o f the pro jecto r or t he r emot e. The LED flash es gre en and the fans start to r un. When the lamp comes on, the star tup scr een is displayed a nd the LE D is ste ady gr een.
15 Adjust the zoom or focus rin gs by rotating t hem until the desired image size and fo cus are produc ed. If the image is not squar e, adj ust the vert ical keystone usi ng the b uttons on the keypad.
16 Shutting do wn the pr ojector The projector automati cally bl anks the screen afte r no active source is detected for 3 0 minutes. This blank scr een helps pr eserve the life of the pro- jector . The imag e returns when an active sour ce is detected or a remot e or keypad bu tton is pr essed.

24 Using the k eypad buttons Most bu ttons ar e des cribed in detail in other sect ions, but h er e is an ov er- view of the ir functio ns: pow er –turns the projector on (page 9) and off (page 14) . menu –op ens the on-sc re en menu s (pag e 29).
25 Using the remote contr ol The remote uses tw o (2) provided AA batter ies. They are ea sily installed by sliding t he cover off t he rem ote’s ba ck, alig ning the + and - e nds of the bat- teries, s liding them into place, and then repla cing th e cover .
26 Using the audio T o play sound f rom the projecto r , connec t your so urce to the Audi o In con- nector on the pr ojector . T o adjust the volume, us e the buttons on the keypad or remote. T o adjust the balance or turn of f the pr ojector ’s chime, use the Audio menu (see page 33) .
27 Optimizing computer images After your comput er is connected pr operly a nd the computer ’s image is on the scre en, you can opt imize the image using the onscr een menus. For gen- eral info rmation on using the menus, see page 29 . • Adjus t the Ke ysto ne, C ontra st, or Bri ght ness in the Pict ure menu .
28 Optimizi ng video im ag es After the video device is c onnected pr oper ly and the image is on the scr een, you can optimize the image using the onscreen menus. For general informa- tion on using the menu s, see page 2 9. • Adj ust the K eystone , Contrast , Bright ness, Colo r , or T int in the Pictur e menu.
29 Using the menus T o open the menus, press th e Me nu button on the key pad or remote. (The menus a utomatically close afte r 60 second s if no butt ons ar e pre ssed.) The Main menu appears. Use the arrow buttons to move up and down to high - light t he desir ed subme nu, then pr ess th e Select but ton.

31 Presets : The pr ovided Pr esets optimize t he projector for displaying com- puter pr esentations, ph otographs, a nd film images. Y ou can use the pr eset as a sta rting point, then further customize the s ettings for ea ch source.
32 Advanced settings Sharpness : (video sources only) cha nges the clari ty of the edge s of a vide o image. Select a s harpness s ettin g. Color S pace : This option applies to computer sources. It allows you to select a color spa ce that has been spec ifically t uned for th e video input.

36 Network : The LP640 ha s an RJ45 Ether net connec tor tha t supports ne twork connecti ons an d TCP/IP protoc ols. This w ill al low for th e control and man- agement of the projector over a corporate network. The follow ing fields are accessib le when DHCP is n ot checked and av ailable for m anual entry of data.
37 Maintenance Cleaning the lens 1 Apply a non-ab rasive c amera lens clea ner to a soft, dry c loth. A void using an excessive a mount of c leaner , an d don’t apply t he cleaner direc tly to the lens. A brasive c leaners, solvents or other h arsh chemic als might sc ratch the len s.
38 Replacing the projection lamp The lamp hour timer in the About menu counts the number of hours the lamp has been in use. Fifty h ours before the specified end of the lamp’s life, the message “ Replace lamp” bri efly appears on the screen at each star tup and in the Inte ractive Di splay .
39 • Be extr emely careful whe n removing the lamp housi ng. In the unlikely event that the lamp rupt ures, sma ll glass frag ments may be g enerated. The lamp module is d esigned to contain m ost of these fr agments , but use caution when removing it.
40 Cleaning the dust filters The dust f ilters catch du st and othe r particles in the air . If the fil ters become clogged, the proj ector doe s not cool pr operl y and may m alfunction. In dirty or dusty envir onments, t hey should b e cleaned a fter ev ery 100 hours of use.
