6 Connecting a computer Required compute r connections Connect one end of the computer cable to t he blue Computer In co nnect or on the projector. Connect the other end to the video port on your computer. If you are using a d esktop compu ter, you will need to discon nect the mon i- tor cable fr om the computer’s video port first.
7 Displa ying a computer image Remove the lens cap. Press the Po w e r button on the top of the projector. The LED fla shes green and t he fans start to run. When the lamp c omes on, the startu p screen is displayed and the LED is stead y green. It can take a minut e for th e image to achiev e full b rightne ss.
8 Using the pr o jector w ith Windo ws 98 for the first time The first time you con nect a compu ter r unning Windows 9 8 to the projector, the computer recognizes the proje c tor as “ ne w har dware ” and the Add New Har dware Wizard appear s.
9 Adjusting the imag e Adjust the height of the pr ojector, if necessary, by pressing the release but- ton t o exten d the foot. Rotate the leveling foot, if necessary. Position the projector the desired distance from the s creen at a 90 degr ee angle to t he screen.
10 Connecting a video de vice Standard video connection s Plug the audio/vi deo (A/V) cable ’ s ye llow co nnector i nto the vi deo-ou t connector on your video device. Plug the ot her yellow connector into the yellow Vide o connector on the projector.

13 Shutting do wn the pr ojector The proj ector auto maticall y displays a g ray screen after no ac tive source i s detected for 3 0 minutes. This gray screen helps pre serve the life of the pro- jector. The ima ge returns when an active source is d etected or a remo te or keypad b utton is pressed .

21 Using the re mote c ontr ol To insta ll the 2 AAA batteries, slide the cover off the back of the remote , align the + and – end s of the batteries and slide into pla ce, then replace the cover. To operate , point the remote at the pr ojection screen or at the front/rear of the projector (not at the computer).
22 Using the audio To use the projector ’ s speake r, connect your source to th e Audio In connec- tor on th e projector. To adjust th e volume, use the Vo l u m e b uttons o n the k eypad or remot e. To mute th e sound, pres s the Mute button on the re mote.
23 Optimizing computer ima ges After your computer is connected properly and the computer ’ s i mage is on the screen, y ou can optimize the image using the onscreen menus. Fo r gen- eral info rmation on using the menus, see page 25 . • Adjust the Keystone , Contrast, o r Brightness in the Pictur e menu (page 26).
24 Optimizing video imag es After y our video devic e is connected properly and t he image is on the screen, you ca n optimize the image usin g the onscreen menus. For general information o n using the menus, see page 25. • Adjust the Keystone , Contrast, B rightness, C olor, or Tint in the Pictu re men u (page 26).
25 Using the menus To open th e menus, press the Me nu button on the keypad or re mote. (The menus a utomatically close a fter 60 second s if no button s are pressed.) The Main men u appears. Use the arrow b uttons to mo ve up and down t o high- light t he desired submenu, then press the Select button.
26 Picture menu To a djust th e follow ing five setti ngs, hi ghligh t the se tting, press Se lect , use the up and down arro ws to adjust the value s, then pre ss Select to conf irm the c hanges. Ke y s t o n e : adjusts t he image vertica lly and makes a s quarer ima ge.
27 Presets : Preset s are provided t ha t opt imize the projector for displaying computer prese ntations, photograph s, film images, and video images . (Film input is material or iginally capture d on a film ca mera, like a m ovie; video input is material or iginally capture d on a video ca mera, like a TV s how or sporting event.
28 Advanced menu Sharpness : (v ideo sources only) cha nges the clarity of t he edges of a vide o image. Select a sha rpness settin g. Color T emperatur e : changes t he intensity of t he colors. Selec t a listed value, or select User a nd individuall y adjust the intensity of the red, green , and blue co lor.
29 Settings menu Sour ces>Startup Sour ce: this deter mines which source the projec tor chec ks first f or active signal d uring po wer-up. Autos ource : When t his feature is On, the projector automat ically finds the active source, ch ecking the Startup Source first .
30 Star tup Logo: allows y ou to display a blank b lack, white, or blue screen instead of t he default screen at s tartup and when no source is detected. Blank Screen : determine s what color i s displayed whe n you press t he Blank button on the remote.
31 PiP : (Pictu re in Picture) a llows you to ov erlay a smal ler window show- ing the video source on top of the larg er computer source window. You must have both a computer and video source connected to use PIP. You can ’ t show a c omputer ima ge in the sma ller PiP window , only a vid eo image.

33 Maintenance Cleaning the lens 1 Apply a non-abra sive camera lens cleaner to a soft, dr y cloth. • Avoid us ing an excessiv e amount of clea ner, and don ’ t apply the cleaner directly to th e lens. Abrasive cleaners, solvents or other ha rsh chemic als migh t scratch the lens.
34 Replacing the pr ojection la mp The lamp hours used timer in the About menu coun ts the number of hours the lamp has been in use. After 19 80 hours, the message “ Change lamp ” appears on t he screen at start up. When the timer r eaches 2000 hours , the lamp w ill no longer li ght.
35 WA R N I N G : To avoid burn s, allow the projector to c ool for at least 60 min- utes before you replace the lamp . WA R N I N G : Do not drop the lamp modu le or touch the glass bulb ! The glas s may shatt er and cause injury . WA R N I N G : Be extremely careful when removing the lamp housing .
36 Cleaning the lamp housing scr eens In dirty or dusty en vironments, the dust filter sc reens in the lamp housing area in t he LP250 can become clogged, causin g high temperatures and pre- mature la mp failure (these screens are not present on the LP240).
