8 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • The chain brak e (A) can either be activated manually (b y your left hand) or automatically b y the iner tia release mechanism. • The brak e is applied when the front hand guard (B) is pushed f orwards or when the right-hand brake trigger (E) is pushed up and f orwards.

If your hand only lightly touches the front guard or slips o ver it, the f orce may not be enough to trigger the chain brak e.
10 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Cutting hardwoods (most broadleaf trees) creates more vibration than cutting softwoods (most conif ers). Cutting with cutting equipment that is blunt or f aulty (wrong type or badly shar pened) will increase the vibration le vel.

Detailed inf or mation regarding the use of the depth gauge tool, will be f ound on the package f or the depth gauge tool. Use the flat file to file off the tip of the depth gauge that protrudes through the depth gauge tool.
14 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • Tighten the bar clutch by turning the knob clockwise . • F old the knob back in to lock the tensioning.
English – 15 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • Check that the bar tip sproc ket turns freely and that the lubricating hole in the tip sprocket is not b lock ed.
16 – English ASSEMBL Y Fitting the bar and c hain 346XP T rioBrake, 353 T rioBrake Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remov e the clutch cov er (chain brak e).
English – 17 ASSEMBL Y Fit the bar ov er the bar bolts. Place the bar in its rear most position. Place the chain o ver the drive sproc ket locate it in the groov e on the bar . Begin on the top edge of the bar . Make sure that the edges of the cutting links are f acing f orward on the top edge of the bar .
18 – English FUEL HANDLING Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys be run using a mixture of gasoline and two- stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
English – 19 FUEL HANDLING Fueling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter m ust be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is w ell mixed b y shaking the container bef ore refuelling.
20 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Starting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brake should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activ ate the chain brake b y pushing the front hand guard f orwards. Ignition; choke: Set the chok e control in the choke position.
English – 21 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Note! Pull the front hand guard to wards the front handle . The chain brak e is now disengaged. Y our saw is ready f or use. • Ne ver star t a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly .
22 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain br ake works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
English – 23 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 5 T ake great care when cutting a tree that is under tension. A tree that is under tension ma y spr ing back to its normal position bef ore or after being cut. If you position y ourself incorrectly or make the cut in the wrong place the tree ma y hit you or the machine and cause y ou to lose control.
24 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 8 Unless the user resists this pushing f orce there is a risk that the chain saw will mo ve so f ar backw ards that only the kickbac k zone of the bar is in contact with the tree, which can lead to a kickbac k. Cutting with the bottom edge of the bar , i.
English – 25 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Limbing When limbing thic k branches you should use the same approach as f or cutting. Cut difficult branches piece b y piece. Cutting If you ha ve a pile of logs , each log you attempt to cut should be remov ed from the pile, placed on a sa w horse or runners and cut individually .
26 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES T ree felling technique Safe distance The saf e distance between a tree that is to be f elled and any one else working nearby is at least 2 1/2 tree lengths. Make sure that no-one else is in this ”risk zone” bef ore or during felling.
English – 27 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Felling F elling is done using three cuts. First you make the directional cuts, which consist of the top cut and the bottom cut, then y ou finish with the f elling cut. By placing these cuts correctly you can control the f elling direction very accurately .
28 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES W e recommend that you use a bar that is longer than the diameter of the tree, so that y ou can make the f elling cut and directional cuts with single cutting strokes . See instructions under the heading T echnical data section to find out which lengths of bar are recommended f or your saw .
English – 29 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES How to a v oid kic kbac k What is kic kback? The word kic kback is used to describe the sudden reaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar , kno wn as the kickbac k zone , touches an object.
30 – English MAINTENANCE General The user must only carry out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual. Carb uretor adjustment Due to e xisting environmental and emissions legislation y our chain saw is equipped with mo vement limiters on the carburetor adjuster scre ws.
English – 31 MAINTENANCE High speed jet H At the factory the engine is adjusted at sea level. When working at a high altitude or in diff erent weather conditions, temperatures and atmospheric humidity , it may be necessary to make minor adjustments to the high speed jet.
32 – English MAINTENANCE Push the trigger up and forw ards to check that it mo ves freely and is securely hinged to the clutch cov er . Never carry or hang the saw b y the trigger! This could damage the mechanism and disable the c hain brake . Checking the brake trig ger Place the chain sa w on fir m ground and star t it.
English – 33 MAINTENANCE Vibration damping system Regularly check the vibration damping units f or crac ks or def or mation. Make sure the vibr ation damping units are securely attached to the engine unit and handle unit. Stop switc h Star t the engine and make sure the engine stops when y ou mov e the stop switch to the stop setting.
34 – English MAINTENANCE 345e: • Undo the bolt in the centre of the pulley and remo ve the drive disc, driv e disc spring and the pulley . Inser t and secure a new starter cord in the star ter pulley . Wind appro x. 3 turns of the star ter cord on the star ter pulley .
English – 35 MAINTENANCE Air filter The air filter must be regularly cleaned to remov e dust and dir t in order to av oid: • Carburettor malfunctions • Star ting problems • Loss of engine power • Unnecessar y wear to engine par ts • Excessive fuel consumption.
36 – English MAINTENANCE Adjustment of the oil pump (346XP/353) The oil pump is adjustab le. Adjustments are made by turning the screw using a scre wdriver or combination spanner . The machine is supplied from the f actor y with the screw set to position 2.
