5 Read This Before Installing Thermostat IMPORT ANT 1 Read the entire installation section of this Owner’ s Manual thoroughly before you begin to install or operate your Hunter T hermostat. REMOVE THE MYLAR LABEL FROM THE LCD DISPLA Y WINDOW . INST ALLA TION 2 All installation is normally performed at your thermostat.
6 Read This Before Installing Thermostat (continued) POWER FAILURE 7 Whenever the main power is interrupted or fails , the battery power retains the programs and cur - rent time . AUTO RECOVER Y 8 Y our thermostat is set from the factory to gradually recover the room temperature from an energy sav- ing program to your comfort program.

8 INST ALLA TION What Y ou Need T his thermostat includes two #8 screws and two wall anchors for mounting. T o install your thermostat, you should have the following tools and materials . ■ Phillips and Slotted Screwdrivers ■ Hammer ■ Electric drill and 3/16" bit ■ T wo 1.
9 Wire Labeling ■ Each wire coming from the wall to the existing thermostat is connected to a terminal point on that thermostat. Each of these terminal points is usually mark ed with a code letter as shown in T able A on the next page. ■ Note that this thermostat has multiple function terminals that allow Single-Stage Heat Pump ca- pability .
10 INST ALLA TION T able A NO TE: Do not connect a “Common” wire (sometimes labeled “C”) to any terminal on this thermostat. Tape up the wire and do not use.
11 Mount W allplate and Thermostat ■ Remove the wallplate from your thermostat by pressing the release tab on the bottom of the thermostat. (See F igure 2.) ■ P osition w allplate on wall and pull existing wires through large opening. T hen level for appearance .
12 INST ALLA TION Connect Wires and Mount Thermostat Cover to W all Plate ■ Match and connect the labeled wires to the appro- priate coded terminal screws on the wallplate . (See F igure 4, 5.) Ignore any wires which may be present, but which were not connected to the old thermostat.
13 Selector Switches In order for this Hunter thermostat to control your system, the system type must be specified by se- lector switches on the printed circuit board inside the thermostat. NO TE: When changing these features after instal- lation, mov e th e H EA T / CO O L selector switch to OFF before removing the thermostat from the wall.
14 PROGRAMMING Setting Time and Day ■ T he LCD will show this information when batteries are first installed, or after the Reset button is pressed. T he temperature will update after a few seconds . ■ During time and day setting mode , the temperature and program displays will go blank.
STEP 3: ■ Press again to change from minute setting to day setting. T he current day will be flashing. ■ Press to change the Day up or down to the current day . STEP 4: ■ Press again to change back to the normal display . NO TE: You may press hold /return at any time during Day and Time setting to return to the normal display.
16 PROGRAMMING Setting Time and Day (continued) 12 HR. / 24 HR. TIME FORMA T Y our thermostat is set from the factory in normal 12 (AM / PM) time format. T o change to 24 hour (military) time , press program at any time while the Hour , Minute , or Day is flashing to toggle between the 12 hour and 24 hour formats .
17 Personal Program Schedule Before programming or changing programs , use this P ersonal Program Schedule to determine which times and temperature settings will best satisfy both your comfort and energy saving requirements . Use a pencil so you can revise your records each time you change your temperature settings .
18 PROGRAMMING Manual Programming ■ Y our thermostat can be programmed for week- days and week ends , or have unique programs for all 7 days . Use Weekday/W eek end Programming below or 7-day Programming on page 21 to enter or revise programs to match your P ersonal Pro- gram Schedule .
(continued) W eekday/W eekend Programming ■ Slide System Selector Switch to HEA T or COOL to program the corresponding system. NO TE: If the system selector is in the OFF position, no programming is permitted. The LCD display will show only dashes when the program key is pressed.
20 PROGRAMMING W eekday/W eekend Programming (continued) STEP 4: ■ Press again to change to the program temperature . T he current temperature will be flashing. ■ Press to change the temperature . STEP 5: ■ Press again to move to the next program number .
7-Day Programming ■ Slide System Selector Switch to HEA T or COOL to program the corresponding system. STEP 1: ■ Press to enter program mode , display shows week- day programs . ■ Press 2 times to reach the Monday program. STEP 2: ■ Use , and program k eys to set the 4 programs for Monday .
22 PROGRAMMING Reviewing Programs Y ou may want to review the programs to confirm that the settings are compatible with your lifestyle . ■ Press to display M – F programs . ■ Press repeatedly to cycle through the 4 programs . ■ Press to display the Sa – Su programs .
■ Press again to change to Monday’ s program. ■ Continue pressing to cycle through each day . ■ Press repeatedly to cycle through the 4 programs . ■ Press to return to normal mode . ■ After 15 seconds , the thermostat will return to nor - mal mode automatically .
24 OPERA TION System Selector Switch T he System Selector switch on the front of the thermostat determines the operating mode of the thermostat. Y ou may select COOL, OFF , HEA T .
25 T emporary Manual Override To temporarily change the current set temperatur e without affecting your program: ■ Press and hold for about 1 second to enter Manual Override mode . When display flashes , you can release the k ey . ■ Press again to change to your desired Set T empera- ture .
26 OPERA TION Permanent Manual Override To hold your Manual Override for vacation or just an extended period of time: ■ Press to mak e the current program temperature the HOLD temperature . HOLD will be displayed on the LCD , and the Program number will disappear .
V acation Override (Programmable Hold) T his thermostat can hold a fixed temperature for a selected number of days (up to 30). After the selected number of days , the thermostat will return to normal program operation. This feature allows you to return home to your normal comfort setpoint temperatures .
28 OPERA TION Home T oday T his Hunter patented feature allows you to quickly and temporarily override your energy saving program setting on days when you are normally away from home with one k ey press .
■ If the system is changed between Heat and Cool modes during the “Home T oday” override period, the setpoint temperature will be automatically updated. It will auto- matically change from the highest heat program setpoint to the lowest cool program setpoint, or from the lowest cool program setpoint to the highest heat program setpoint.
30 OPERA TION Energy Monitor energy Usage Hr Min T oday energy T he Energy monitor feature measures and stores the amount of time the heating and air conditioning sys- tem operates . Usage can be displayed for T oday (since 12am), Y esterday , This Week (since Monday), Last W eek (last Monday through Sunday), and T otal (up to 999 Hrs .
31 Filter Monitor Y our thermostat also keeps a record of the number of hours your filter has been in use . T o maximize your system’s performance and energy efficiency , change or clean your filter regularly .
32 OPERA TION F or example, in Heat mode, you could have the follow- ing programs: Program #4 (Overnight) Program #1 (Morning) Set T emp = 16 ° C Set T emp = 20 ° C T ime = 10pm Time = 6am T he room temperature fell to 16 ° C overnight.
33 Details of Auto Recovery Operation: ■ Auto Recovery can be disabled by sliding the Re- covery switch on the circuit board to the DISABLE position. Refer to page 13. ■ Auto Recovery will not operate if P ermanent hold, T emporary hold or Home T oday is in operation.
34 OPERA TION SP AN Setting Mode Y our thermostat is set at the factory to cycle at 0.5˚C (1˚F) above and below the set temperature . (Span = 2) T his setting has been designed to pro- vide a comfortable room temperature under most all conditions .
T he Span settings remain the same for both HEA T and COOL. T he Span can be changed at any time , and is inde- pendent of program times or temperatures . When batteries are installed in the thermostat, or the Reset k ey is pressed, the Span is reset back to setting 2 .
36 SAFETY FEA TURES Low Battery W ar ning ■ Y our thermostat has a two-stage low battery warning system. When the batteries are first detected to be weak, the first stage low battery warning is indicated by battery symbol flashing on the LCD display .
37 Err or Mode ■ If the thermostat is unable to control your system due to an unex- pected battery problem, the thermostat will enter Error Mode. In this condition, the thermostat flashes “Err” on the LCD display , and shuts off your system.
