1 How GPS and Cartogr aphy W ork Y our 700 Series™ Chartplotter supports GPS and chartplotting, and uses GPS to determine your position and display it on a grid. T he Global P ositioning System (GPS) is a satellite naviga tion system designed and maintained by the U.
2 The f ollowing GPS functionality is currently supported by the 700 Series™ Chartplotter when it is connected to the included GPS receiver: • View curr ent position • View curr ent track (bread.
3 Multi-Media Card (MMC)/SD Slot Y our 700 Series™ Chartplotter also has a multi- media card (MMC)/SD slot that is used to insert optional-purchase cards containing additional detailed maps.
4 What’ s On the Display The 700 Series™ Chartplotter can displa y a variety of useful information. Cursor Info Box: indicates the Latitude and Longitude of the cursor position, the distance to travel to the cursor position and the bearing to the cursor position is shown with a GPS receiver.

7 Bird’ s Eye V iews Bird's Eye V iews - T he Standard Bird's Ey e, Bird's Eye Big Digits, and Bir d's Eye No Readouts Vie ws show a 3-D, perspective vie w of the track and the chart’ s land contour from a point abov e and behind the boat (the eye point).

13 Instrument V iew Instrument V iew allows y ou to display a digital instrument panel with 8 selectable readouts. T his view provides a digital compass a t the top of the view , as well as 8 selectable readouts, and a Cr oss T rack Error (XTE) gr aphic at the bottom of the view .
14 Screen Snapshot V iew Screen Snapshot V iew displa ys and allows you to view scr een snapshot thumbnails captured to an optional-purchase MMC/SD car d installed in your unit. In addition, when you are in the Scr een Snapshot View , Delete Image and Delete All Images are added to the X -Press™ menu.
15 Screen Snapshot: When Screen Snapshot is enabled (fr om the Accessories menu tab), pressing the MARK ke y creates a sav ed screen capture (when y ou have an optional-pur chase MMC/SD card installed).
16 V iew Orientation All the Chart views allow you to choose the orientation of the vie w. W hen North-Up orientation is selected, T rue North is shown at the top of the displa y . In other words, objects loca ted to the north of the boat are dra wn above the boat.
17 V iewing Cartogr aphy In the Chart Vie ws, there are sev eral cartograph y-related functions tha t you can access using various ke ys. P anning: Use the 4-WA Y Cursor ke ys to move the chart ar ound on the display in the direction of the ke y being pressed.
18 Nearest P ort: The position and services informa tion for the nearest port to your present position will be display ed in an information box. Press the EXIT k ey to remov e the information box and the cursor bull ’ s eye will be centered ov er the port position.
19 Nearest Current Station: Current informa tion for the nearest curr ent station to your present position will be displa yed in an information box. T his includes the position of the station and the current changes f or today .
20 W aypoints, Routes and T racks W aypoints are stored positions that allow y ou to mark areas of interest or navigation points. Y our Chartplotter can store up to 3000 w aypoints. Routes link two or more w aypoints together to create a pa th for naviga tion, and are used in trip planning.
21 Sav e, Edit, or Delete a W aypoint Save y our current position as a waypoint: On an y view , press the MARK ke y to save the curr ent position of the boat as a waypoint. Save the cur sor position as a waypoint: On the Chart views, use the Cur sor key to designa te the position you want to sav e as a waypoint.
22 T o make it easier to select a waypoint, select Sort By and pr ess the RIGHT or LEFT Cursor ke ys to select a sort order: • Name shows the wa ypoints alphabetically • Time sho ws the most recently-crea ted waypoint fir st • Distance shows the closest wa ypoint first.
23 Add a W aypoint T arget or T rolling Grid Add or Remove a W aypoint T arget: F rom the W aypoints submenu, select T arget and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey to display a list of wa ypoints.
24 Add or Remove a T rolling Grid: Fr om the W aypoints submenu, select Grid and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey to display a list of wa ypoints. Select the waypoint to which you want to add the grid. T he trolling grid will appear on all of the navigation vie ws, and can be used as a guide when trolling around a wa ypoint.
25 Sav e, Edit or Delete a Route Save the curr ent route: W hile you are na vigating, the current route can be saved. F rom the Navigation X -Press ™ menu, select Save Curr ent Route and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey .
26 Sav e or Clear a Current T rack Save the curr ent track: From the Na vigation X -Press™ menu, select Save Current T rack and press the RIGHT Cur sor key . The tr ack will remain on the display , but will change from black to gray . T o remov e the track completely from the display , see Edit, Delete or Hide Saved T racks .
27 Man Overboar d (MOB) Navigation As soon as you know tha t you have a man o verboard, y ou should activate MOB navigation to maximize chances f or a successful rescue. MOB navigation allows you cr eate an MOB waypoint to loca te the point at which your man w ent overboar d, and the relation of the boat to tha t point.

29 Ke y Functions Y our Chartplotter user interface consists of a set of easy-to-use ke ys that work with various on-screen vie ws and menus to give you flexibility and control o ver your fishing experience.
30 INFO Ke y Info - Press the INFO k ey while in the Bird's Eye or Chart vie ws to display informa tion about objects that are nearest to an activ e cursor .
31 4-W A Y Cursor Contr ol Ke y Use the DOWN or UP 4-W ay Cursor Control k eys to select a menu choice from the menu list, then use the LEFT or RIGHT arrow k eys to change a menu setting. NO TE: Menu choices are implemented and sav ed immediately - no further action is required.

35 T he Menu System The menu system is divided into easy -to-use menu modules. The main components of the menu system are: Start-Up Options Menu - Pr ess the MENU key during the pow er up sequence to view the Start -Up Options menu.
36 Main Menu T abs - Less frequently-adjusted menus are grouped into the Main Menu System. The Main Menu system is or ganized under the following tab headings to help you find a specific menu item quickly: Alarms, Navigation, Chart, Setup, V iews and Accessories.
37 T otal Screen Update - when you change an y menu settings that affect the display , the view will update immediately (i.e. you don ’t hav e to exit the menu to apply the change to the screen).
38 Start -Up Options Menu Press the MENU ke y when the Title screen is displa yed to access the Start-Up Options menu. Use the UP or DOWN 4-WA Y Cursor keys to position the cur sor , then the RIGHT Cursor ke y to select one of the following choices.
39 Simulator Use the Simulator to learn how to use your Chartplotter bef ore taking your boat on the water . The Simulator is a v ery powerful tool that simula tes on the water operation, pr oviding a randomly-upda ted display .
40 System Status Use System Status to view system connections and to conduct a unit self-test. The f ollowing screens are displa yed in turn when you pr ess the VIEW button when using System Status: • Self T est • Accessory T est • GPS Diagnostic Vie w.
41 Accessory T est Accessory T est lists the accessories connected to the system. NO TE: The speed accessory will be detected only if the paddlewheel has moved since your Chartplotter was pow ered up.
42 GPS Diagnostic V iew GPS Diagnostic V iew shows a sk y chart and numerical data from the GPS receiver . The sky chart sho ws the location of each visible GPS satellite with its satellite number and a signal strength bar . A dark gray bar indicates tha t the satellite is being used to determine your curr ent position.
43 PC Connect (with PC Connect cable only) Use PC Connec t to update the softwar e of the Chartplotter control head. This featur e requires the use of the PC Connect Cable. Complete instructions are included with the PC Connect Cable accessory . NO TE: The PC Connect Cable requir es a separate purchase.
44 Navigation X -Press™ Menu (Navigation views only) The Navigation X -Press™ menu provides access to the settings most frequently used. Press the MENU ke y once while in any of the Navigation vie ws to access the Navigation X-Pr ess™ menu.
45 W aypoint [Name] (Only with an active cursor on a waypoint) W aypoint [Name] allows you to vie w the Wa ypoints submenu for the wa ypoint under your cursor .
46 Cursor to W aypoint (Chart views only) Cursor to W aypoint allows you to quickly mov e the cursor to any sav ed waypoint, so tha t you can locate it or edit it. NO TE: This X-Pr ess ™ menu item appears only if you have sav ed waypoints. T o mov e cur sor to a sa v ed w a ypoint: 1.
47 Clear Current T rack Clear Current T rack allo ws you to clear the current track being displa yed and start a new track a t the present position. T o Clear Curr ent T rack: 1. Highlight Clear Current T rack on the Na vigation X -Press™ menu. 2. Use the RIGHT 4-WA Y Cursor Control ke y to initiate clearing the current track.
48 Skip Next W aypoint (only when Navigating) Skip Next W aypoint r emoves the next w aypoint from the current route. T his menu choice will only appear when you are curr ently navigating a route. T o Skip Next W aypoint: 1. Highlight Skip Next W aypoint on the Navigation X -Press™ menu.
49 Cancel MOB Navigation (only when MOB Navigation is activated) Cancel MOB Navigation exits Man Overboar d mode. This menu choice will only appear when you are curr ently navigating in Man Overboar d mode. T o Cancel MOB Navigation: 1. Highlight Cancel MOB Navigation on the Na vigation X-Pr ess™ menu.
50 Remov e Grid (only if a Grid is Active) Remove Grid remov es the waypoint grid fr om the display . This menu choice will only appear when a grid has already been applied to a wa ypoint. NO TE: See Add a W aypoint T arget or T rolling Grid f or more information.
51 T he W a ypoint Submenu contains the following menu choices: Edit allows y ou to edit the Name, Position (La titude and Longitude) and select the Icon that will be used to repr esent the waypoint in the Chart V iews. Delete allows you to delete a w aypoint from the list of sav ed waypoints.
52 Select Readouts Select Readouts sets individual digital readouts on the Instrument V iew , all the Chart Vie ws, and the Bird's Eye V iews. T his feature allows y ou to select what data will b.

55 WPT end/TTG/DTG WPTnext/ET A/DTG WPTnext/TTG/DTG W aypoint/TTG XTE W aypoint End/Time T o Go/Distance to Go. W aypoint End is the last waypoint on the route. T ime T o Go is the estimated time requir ed to reach the last waypoint on the r oute. TTG is calculated using the SOG and DTG.
56 Bearing CMG/SMG COG Off P osition SOG Bearing is the direction to a destination w aypoint measured in degrees from North (i.e. 321°, wher e 000° is North, 090° East, 180° is South, 270° is W est). Course Made Good/Speed Made Good. Course Made Good is the angle between the starting point on a route and the current position of the boa t.
57 TRK/CMG TTG Time Time + Date T riplog VMG V oltage WPT end/ET A/DTG WPT end/TTG/DTG T rack/Course Made Good. The T rack Line is the desired line of tr avel between two waypoints, and r epresents the most efficient path between the two points because it is a straight line.
58 WPTnext/ET A/DTG WPTnext/TTG/DTG W aypoint/TTG XTE W aypoint Next/Estimated Time of Arriv al/Distance to Go. W aypoint Next is the next waypoint on the route. Estima ted Time of Arriv al is the estimated time of arrival to the next waypoint on the r oute.
59 T o Select Readouts: 1. Highlight Select Readouts on the Naviga tion X-Pr ess™ menu. 2. Use the RIGHT 4-W A Y Cursor Control k ey to initiate this pr ocedure.

61 Delete Image (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card only) Delete Image allows you to delete a single scr een capture image from the Screen Snapshot V iew . This menu option is only a vailable when you hav e an optional-purchase MMC/SD card installed and y ou are in Screen Snapshot Vie w and you have selected an image thumbnail.

68 T rackpoint Interval T rackpoint Interv al allows y ou to select the time period between trackpoints. T he current track can only contain up to 20,000 trackpoints, so longer time periods cause the track to extend back in time, but will be less detailed.
69 T rack Color Range T rack Color Range allows you to set the depth range that will be displa yed as black, the deepest depth, when Color By Depth is selected as the style for the current tr ack (see Navigation Menu T ab: Current T rack ). T o change the T r ack Color Range: 1.
70 Course Pr ojection Line Course Projection Line allows you to display or hide an arrow extending fr om the bow of the boat that pr ojects your current cour se, and shows where the boa t will go if you continue on your present cour se. T o change the Course Pr oject Line setting: 1.
71 Delete All Nav Data (Advanced) Delete All Nav Data allows y ou to delete all saved T racks, W aypoints and Routes. This menu choice should be used with caution. T he Delete All Nav Data menu choice is only available when User Mode is set to Adv anced (see Setup Menu T ab: User Mode ).
72 Chart Menu T ab Press the MENU ke y twice to access the Main Menu System and then press the RIGHT Cursor key to select the Chart tab. NO TE: Menu choices will vary depending on system settings such as whether the unit is set for Advanced User mode.
73 Chart Detail Lev el Chart Detail Level allows you to select ho w much chart detail you want displa yed on the Navigation V iews. Basic shows land areas, ports, obstructions and restricted ar eas. Navigation shows nav aids, landmarks, ferrywa ys and navigation routes in addition to the Basic information.
74 Map Border s Map Borders allo ws you to display or hide map borders. A Map Bor der indicates an area which contains a differ ent map. T o change the Map Bor der s setting: 1. Highlight Map Borders on the Chart main menu. 2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT 4-WA Y Cursor Control ke ys to change the Map Borders setting.
75 Lat/Lon Grid Lat/Lon Grid allows you to displa y or hide a grid showing latitude and longitude lines. T o change the Lat/Lon Grid setting: 1. Highlight Lat/Lon Grid on the Chart main menu. 2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT 4-WA Y Cursor Control ke ys to change the Lat/Lon Grid setting.
76 Shaded Depth Shaded Depth allo ws you to change the depth used for shading on the chart views. T o change the Shaded Depth setting: 1. Highlight Shaded Depth on the Navigation main menu. 2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT 4-WA Y Cursor Control ke ys to change the Shaded Depth setting.
77 Set Map Offset (Advanced) Set Map Offset allows you to change the map offset used b y your Chartplotter . The Set Map Offset menu choice is only a vailable when User Mode is set to Advanced (see Setup Menu T ab: User Mode ). NO TE: The Map Offset will be applied to all maps and not just the map that requir es the correction.
78 Alarms Menu T ab From an y view , press the MENU ke y twice to access the Main Menu System. The Alarms tab will be the default selection. NO TE: When an alarm is triggered, you can silence it b y pressing any k ey . The alarm will be silenced, and will not be triggered again until a new instance of the alarm condition is detected.
79 Low Battery Alarm Low Battery Alarm sounds when the input battery voltage is equal to or less than the menu setting. T he battery alarm will only sound for the battery tha t is connected to the Chartplotter . The Lo w Battery Alarm should be set to warn y ou when the battery voltage drops belo w the safety margin tha t you have determined.
80 T emp. Alarm T emp. Alarm sounds when the w ater tempera ture detected by the Chartplotter reaches the T emp. Alarm setting, which is either set in degrees F ahrenheit or Celsius [International Models only] .
81 T o change the Off Cour se Alarm setting: 1. Highlight Off Course Alarm on the Alarms main menu. 2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT 4-W A Y Cursor Control ke ys to change the Off Course Alarm setting.
82 Drift Alarm Drift Alarm sounds when the boat has exceeded the distance from the boat’ s anchored position, based on the menu setting. Drift Alarm allows you to set the size of a perimeter ar ound the boat’ s anchored position; if the anchored boat drifts outside of tha t perimeter , the Drift Alarm will sound.
83 Alarm T one Alarm T one selects the pitch of the alarm sound. A brief tone will be produced as you adjust the Alarm T one so that y ou can select the tone that you can hear best. T o change the Alarm T one setting: 1. Highlight Alarm T one on the Alarms main menu.
84 Setup Menu T ab From an y view , press the MENU ke y twice to access the tabbed Main Menu System, then press the RIGHT cursor ke y until the Setup tab is selected. NO TE: Menu choices will vary depending on system settings such as whether the unit is set for Advanced User mode and what accessories are attached to the unit.
85 Units - Depth Units - Depth selects the units of measur e for all depth-related r eadouts. T o change the Units - Depth setting: 1. Highlight Units - Depth on the Setup menu. 2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT 4-WA Y Cursor Control ke ys to change the Units - Depth setting.
86 Units - Speed Units - Speed selects the units of measure f or speed- related r eadouts, and will appear in the menu if a T emp/Speed Accessory is connected and the paddlewheel has mov ed at least once, or if the GPS Receiver is connected. T o change the Units - Speed setting: 1.
87 T riplog Reset T riplog Reset r esets the T riplog to zero, and will appear in the menu if a T emp/Speed Accessory is connected and the paddlewheel has mov ed at least once, or if the GPS Receiver is connected. The T riplog pro vides the following informa tion: timer for elapsed time, distance trav eled since last reset, and aver age speed.
88 Aux. T emp. Offset (Advanced) Aux. T emp. Offset will adjust the aux. temper ature r eadout (the temperature on the optional-purchase tempera ture probe or T emp/Speed accessory) by the amount entered. T his menu choice is available only when in Advanced User Mode (see Setup Menu T ab: User Mode.
89 Speed Calibration (Advanced, with T emp/Speed only) Speed Calibration will adjust the speed readout by the percentage enter ed, and will appear in the menu if a T emp/Speed Accessory is connected and the paddlewheel has mov ed at least once, when the unit is in Advanced User Mode (see Setup Menu T ab: User Mode .
90 Daylight Sa ving T ime (Advanced) Daylight Saving T ime adjusts the time display to account f or local Daylight Saving T ime when Time+Date is selected as a Digital Readout (see Select Readouts ). Selecting On adds one hour to the time display adjusted for y our local time zone.
91 T ime F ormat (Advanced, International only) Time F ormat changes the time format used by the unit T his menu choice is available only when in Adv anced User Mode (see Setup Menu T ab: User Mode ).
92 Digits F ormat (Advanced) Digits Format allows you to add a tenth decimal place to readouts such as T emperature and Depth. T he format can be changed to small f ormat, large format or no f ormat. This menu choice is a vailable only when in Advanced User Mode (see Setup Menu T ab: User Mode .
93 W hen navigating, the following NMEA sentences ar e also output when NMEA Output is turned On: APB - Autopilot Sentence B BWR - Bearing and Distance to W aypoint RMB - Recommended Minimum Navigation Inf o T o turn NMEA Output on or off: 1. 104 Cross T rack Error (XTE): Cr oss T rack Error is the straight -line distance of the boat from the intended T rack. XTE measures ho w far the boat is off course, and also triggers the Off Course Alarm.
