26 G etting Started T o install the SIM card Make sure your device is turned off. Locate the SIM car d slot, then insert the SIM card with its gold contacts facing down and its cut-off corner facing out the card slot. Slide the SIM card completely into the slot.
Getting Started 27 W arning! T o reduce risk of fire or burns: • Do not attempt to open, disassemble, or service the battery pack. • Do not crush, puncture, short external contacts, or dispose of in fire or water . • Do not expose to temperatures abo ve 60 o C (140 o F).
28 G etting Started 1.3 Charging the batt ery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before y ou start using your device, it is rec ommended that you install and charge the battery . Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles.

30 G etting Started 1.5 Starting Up After installing your SIM card and batt ery and charging the battery, you can now power on and start using your device. T urn your device on and off T o turn on the power Press and hold the POWER butt on for a few seconds .

T apping means to touch lightly and quickly with your finger pad or fingertip. On screens that display smaller-siz e items, you can mor e accurately select an item by tapping it with your fingertip.

Getting Started 39 1.9 Start Menu The Start menu, which can be opened from the top left corner of the screen, gives you ac cess to all the programs and settings of y our Window s Mobile - powered devic e. T ouch or tap to select an item on the Start menu.
40 G etting Started 1.10 Quick Menu The Quick menu, which can be opened from the top right c orner of the screen, shows the curren tly running programs. Y ou can quick ly switch between running programs , stop programs , and see how much program memory is being used.
Getting Started 41 1.11 LED Alerts The buttons below the touch scr een and the exterior edge of the Navigation Contr ol which is an LED ring will light up in the following situations: Controls Light Behavior SEND button Light flashes when there is an incoming call.
42 G etting Started 1.12 Adjusting the V olume Adjusting the system v olume changes the volume level of sound notifications and audio/video playback, whereas adjusting the ring volume affects only the volume of the phone ring. The system volume and ring volume can be separately adjusted .

46 Using Phone F eatures 2.1 Using the Phone Like a standard mobile phone, y ou can use your device to make, r eceive , and keep track of calls and send messages. The Phone screen T o open the Phone screen, do one of the following: • On the Home screen, tap Phone .
Using Phone F eatures 47 2.2 V oice Call Make a call T o make a call from the Phone screen 1. On the Home screen, tap Phone . 2. T ap the keys on the keypad to enter the phone number . Tip If you tapped a wrong number , tap to erase each subsequent digit of a number .
48 Using Phone F eatures T o make an emergency call Enter the international emergency number for y our locale, and press the T ALK/SEND button on your device. Tip Additional emergency numbers may be included in your SIM card . Contact your wireless service provider for details .
Using Phone F eatures 49 T o answer or reject an incoming call • T o answer the call, tap Answer , or pr ess the T ALK/SEND button. • T o reject the call, tap Ignore , or press the END button. • T o mute the ringing sound without rejecting the call, tap Mute Ring .
50 Using Phone F eatures T o turn on and off the Speakerphone During a call, tap to toggle between turning on or off the speakerphone. The speakerphone icon appears in the title bar when the speakerphone is on. Tip Y ou can also press and hold T ALK/SEND to toggle between turning on or off the speakerphone.

T o enable or disable the phone function 1. T ap Star t > Programs > C omm Manager . 2. On the Comm Manager screen, tap the Phone button to enable or disable the phone function.
Using Phone F eatures 53 2.3 V ideo Call Y our device lets you make video calls when you are within a 3G network coverage ar ea. Y ou need to use a 3G-enabled SIM card to make video calls. Make a video call Do one of the following: • On the Phone keypad, tap the phone number t o call, then tap Menu > Video C all to start a video call.
54 Using Phone F eatures Change settings While on a video call, you can change certain settings such as the size of the image, brightness of the video image, the camera t o use, and more . The following sho ws the Video Call scr een and control buttons during an ongoing call.

56 Using Phone F eatures • Switch camera off when answ ering video call . Select this check box to not send a video f eed of yourself to the other party when answering a video call. Instead, the option y ou selected in Show still image will be displayed.
Using Phone F eatures 57 T o find a contact name or number Y ou can just enter the first letter of the name or number of a contact. Smart Dial will search for contact phone numbers and the first character of a contact name as well as from the character that appears after a space , dash, or underscore in a contact name.
58 Using Phone F eatures 2.5 Setting Up Bluetooth SIM Acc ess for C ar Kit Phones Bluetooth car kits that support the SIM Access Profile (SAP) can connect to your device and access its SIM car d via Bluetooth. Once a SAP connection has been established, you can download SIM c ontacts from your device to the car kit phone.

T ouchFLO™ 3D 63 People On the People tab , you can add fav orite contacts who you most frequently communicate with. This allows you to quickly make calls, send text messages, and send e-mails to your favorite contacts. Tip Y ou can add up to 15 favorite contacts on the People tab .

T ouchFLO™ 3D 65 Messages On the Messages tab, you can r ead SMS text messages as they arrive and create a new SMS text message. Y ou can also view the text of received MMS messages on this tab. When there are new incoming SMS/MMS messages , the icon on the Messages tab will show the number of new messages.

T ap the Input S elector arrow (that appears next to the Input Panel icon) to open a menu where you can select a text input method and customize input options.

Tip Y ou can also use the Window s Mobile on-screen keyboard which also has a QWERT Y keyboard layout b y selecting Keyboard (or Other Input Methods > Keyboard ) on the T ext input method menu.

The Phone Keypad has large keys and enhanced input f eatures such as T9 predictive input, which makes it faster for you t o enter text in your messages and documents.
