Phone calls Making calls Ther e are se ver al conv enient methods to make a call fr om your phone . Most SIM car ds ar e pr eset with a PIN (personal identification number) that is pr o vided by y our mobile opera tor . When prompt ed, enter the pr eset PIN, then tap Enter .
Phone calls 43 Calling a speed dial number Pr ess HOME, and then tap Phone . On the phone ke ypad, pres s and hold the number that is associat ed with the contact you want t o call. The number 1 on the phone k eypad is gener ally reserv ed for your v oicemail.
44 Phone calls Making an emer gency call Y ou can mak e emer gency calls fr om y our phone ev en if y ou don’t hav e a SIM car d installed or y our SIM car d has been block ed. Pr ess HOME, and then tap Phone . Dial the international emer gency number for y our locale (for e xample, 000), and then tap Call .
Phone calls 45 Rec eiving calls When y ou receiv e a phone call from a c ontact, the Incoming call screen appears and displa ys the caller ID icon, name, and phone number of the calling party .
46 Phone calls Rejecting an inc oming call Depending if the display is on or off , you need t o:: If the display is on, tap Decline t o reject and send the call to y our voic e mail. If the display is off , the display will turn on sho wing the Lock scr een.
Phone calls 4 7 Using in-call options When a call is in pr ogress, use the butt ons onscr een to mut e or unmute the micr ophone or to turn on or off the speakerphone . Y ou can also press MENU t o open the call options to let y ou add a call, place the call on hold, mut e the micr ophone, and mor e.
48 Phone calls Setting up a conf er ence call Make a call t o the first confer ence call participant. When c onnected, pr ess MENU, tap A dd call , and then dial the number of the second participant. The firs t participant is put on hold when y ou dial the second participant.
Phone calls 49 Using call hist ory When y ou miss a call, the missed call icon ( ) appears in the title bar . Use the Call history tab in the People application to check who the caller w as or view all y our dialed numbers and r eceiv ed calls. Pr ess HOME, and then tap Phone .

52 Phone calls T urning Airplane mode on or off In many c ountries, y ou are r equir ed b y law t o turn off the phone while on board an air cr aft. A wa y to turn off the phone function is to s witch y our phone to Airplane mode .
People About People In People , y ou can easily manage your communica tions with contacts via phone , messaging, and email. Y ou can also view updates on their F acebook and Flickr acc ounts.
54 People People scr een The People scr een gives y ou easy acc ess to all y our contacts, as well as e ven f ast er acc ess to the people and gr oups of people y ou contact mos t often.

Mes sages About Messages Messages lets y ou compose and send te xt (SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS) to other mobile phones. T o open y our message inbo x, pres s HOME, and then tap > Messages .
Messages 69 3. Fill in one or more r ecipients. Y ou can: Enter phone numbers dir ectly in the T o field. If you’r e sending the message to se v eral phone numbers, separ ate the phone numbers with a c omma. As y ou enter inf ormation, any ma tching phone numbers fr om your c ontacts list ar e display ed.
70 Messages 5. Pres s MENU and then tap A ttach . 6. On the Attach windo w , select from the follo wing file attachments: Picture . Select Camer a to tak e a photo and attach it, or Pictur es to attach a photo fr om y our st or age car d.
Messages 71 Ne w message notifications Depending on y our notification settings, the phone will pla y a ring tone , vibr ate , or display the message briefly in the sta tus bar when y ou r eceiv e a new t e xt or multimedia message.
72 Messages W AP push messages W AP push messages contain a w eb link. Often, the link will be t o download a file that y ou hav e reques ted, f or e xample a ring t one. When y ou receiv e a W AP push message, a notification icon is display ed in the status bar .
Messages 73 Managing message c onv ersations T e xt and multimedia messages that ar e sent to and r eceiv ed from a c ontact ( or a number) are gr ouped into con versations or mes sage thr eads in the All messages scr een.
7 4 Messages Pr otecting a mes sage fr om deletion Y ou can lock a message so that it will not be delet ed e v en if you delete the other mes sages in the con versation. Pr ess HOME, and then tap > Messages . On the All messages scr een, tap a message thread.
Messages 7 5 Setting t e xt and multimedia message options Pr ess HOME, and then tap > Messages . On the All messages screen, pr ess MENU and then tap Settings to set the t e xt or multimedia message options. Ac counts and s ync 79 Remo ving an account Y ou can r emo v e an account to delet e it and all information associated with it fr om your phone, for e xample messages, c ontacts, or settings. Remo ving an account does not delet e information fr om the online service itself .

By signing in to Fac ebook for HT C Sense, y our F acebook c ontacts and their contact details are do wnloaded to People , y ou can bro wse thr ough Facebook phot o albums in Photos, and read F acebook status updat es in Friend Stream.
Social 85 With the F acebook application, y ou can: Share y our thoughts and check other people’ s status updat es. Vie w your friends lis t and write on someone’ s wall. Comment on and lik e a friend’s post. Vie w someone’s personal inf ormation, including photo albums.
86 Social T wittering on y our phone Peep is a T witter™ client that lets y ou enjoy “twitt ering’’ on y our phone. Send out tweets, r ead and rec eive tw eets from people, sear ch for new T witter users to follo w , all from y our phone. 1. Press HOME, and then tap > P eep .

Email Using Gmail/ Google Mail Gmail/ Google Mail is Google’s w eb-based email service. Gmail/ Google Mail is configur ed when y ou first set up y our phone. Depending on y our synchr onization settings, Gmail/ Google Mail on y our phone is automatically s ynchronized with one or mor e Gmail/ Google Mail acc ounts on the w eb.
Email 97 Swit ching to another Google A ccount If y ou hav e set up more than one Google A ccount on y our phone, y ou can swit ch between acc ounts in Gmail/ Google Mail. For mor e information on setting up Google A ccounts, see “Synchr onizing with a Google Acc ount” in the Acc ounts and sync chapter .
98 Email 3. T o manage the email message or con versation, do an y of the following: T ap Archiv e to r emov e the conv ersation from y our Inbox while s till keeping it st or ed in y our Google A cc ount. T o display y our ar chiv ed messages, in the Inbo x, press MENU and then tap V iew labels > All Mail .
Email 99 Sending a message 1. Press HOME, and then tap > Gmail / Google Mail . 2. In the Inbox, pr ess MENU and then tap Compose . 3. Enter the message r ecipient’s email addr ess in the T o field. If you ar e sending the email to se ver al recipients, separ ate the email addr esses with a comma.
100 Email Vie wing your sent mes sages In the Inbo x, press MENU and then tap V iew labels > Sent . Managing con versa tions and messages Searching f or messages Y ou can sear ch for messages tha t contain one or mor e wor ds in their cont ents or in their addr esses, subjects, labels, and so on.
Email 101 Changing Gmail/ Google Mail synchr onization settings 1. Press HOME, and then tap > Gmail / Google Mail . 2. Press MENU , and then tap Settings > Labels . 3. T o set the number of day s to synchr onize, tap Number of day s to sync . 4.
102 Email Email notifications . Select the check bo x to show a notifica tion icon on the s tatus bar when y ou r eceiv e a new email. T ap Select ringtone if y ou want y our phone to play a notification sound when a ne w email message arriv es. On the ring tone menu, select a ring tone specific t o ne w email messages.
Email 103 Mail The Mail applica tion lets y ou send and r eceiv e email from y our webmail or other ac counts, using POP3 or IMAP . It also lets y ou acc ess your Ex change Activ eSync email and other featur es on your phone . For informa tion on this, see “Ex change Activ eSync email” in this chapter .
104 Email Inbo x filter tabs Receiv ed Display s email messages as individual items. Con v ersations Display s messages as con v ersations, gr ouped accor ding to the subject line. T ap a subject in the list to sho w the email con v ersation. VIP group Display s messages from c ontacts in y our VIP group.
