Use the control pa nel The c ontrol pane l has a VGA to uchscr een that p rovides access to all d evice fun ction s. Use the buttons and num eric keypad to con trol job s and the devi ce status.
Home screen The hom e screen pro vides acces s to the devi ce featu res, and it indi cates the c urrent sta tus of the dev ice. NOT E: Depending on how th e syste m admini strator has configu red the d evice, the featur es that appe ar on the home sc reen c an va ry.

Customize tray 1 operation The devi ce can be set to p rint from tray 1 if it is loa ded, or t o print only f rom tray 1 if the ty pe of med ia that is load ed is spe cifical ly requ ested.

3. Place the pape r in the tray, with the si de to be printed faci ng down for singl e-sided printing, or facing up for auto matic 2-side printing , and mak e sure that it is flat at all fo ur corn ers. Ke ep the paper be low the he ight ta bs on the paper-len gth guide in the rear of the tray.

Load the automatic do cument feeder (ADF) Use t he ADF to copy , scan, or f ax a doc ument that ha s up to 50 pages (dep ending on the thickness of the pag es).

Print full-b leed imag es Full-bl eed image s extend from ed ge to edge of the page. To achieve this effec t, use la rger paper, the n trim i ts edg es to the desire d size. CAUTION: Never print dire ctly to the edge of paper. This caus es toner to accum ulate inside the dev ice, which m ay affect print qua lity and damag e the d evice.
Print on cu stom-size media Cust om-size pap er can be printe d from any of the trays. Fo r media spe cificati ons, see Media and tr ays on page 59 . NOT E: Very s mall or very lar ge cus tom-siz e paper should be pri nted from tray 1 . The c ontro l panel can be set for o ne custom size at a time .

Contro l print jobs When a job is sent to the printer , the printer driver con trols wh at paper tray is us ed to pull media thr ough the pri nter. By default, the print er aut omatic ally se lects th e tray, but a specif ic tray can be c hosen b ased on three use r-specifi ed settings : Source , Type , and Size .

Load staples Each s taple ca ssett e holds 5,000 unformed staples . 1. Open the stapl er door. 2. Lift up the green handle on the stapl e cartrid ge to dislo dge it and the n pull th e cartri dge out of the device . 3. Insert the s taple car tridge int o the openi ng inside t he stapler door and then press the green handle down.

Use the QuickCopy feature The Qu ickCopy feature prints th e reque sted numbe r of cop ies of a job and stor es a copy on the device hard dis k. Additional c opies o f the job can be p rinted later. Thi s feature can be turne d off in the printer driv er.
Use the stored jo b feature You can save a print jo b to the devic e hard dis k without printi ng it. You ca n then pri nt the job at any tim e at t he devic e contr ol pan el. 7C o p y This dev ice can fu nction as a stand alone, walk -up copi er. It is no t necessa ry to insta ll the prin ting system softwar e on the comp uter, nor i s it neces sary to hav e the compute r turned on to m ake photoco pies. You can adjus t the copy se ttings at the contr ol panel.
