Unders tand paper use HP Officeje t inks for busi ness are specifica lly developed for use with HP printheads. Unique ink f ormulations help extend the life of the printhea ds and e nhance re liability. When u sed with ColorLok® pape r, these ink s provide laser-like c olor output.
Media ty pe Do Do not Heavy paper ● Use only heavy paper that is approved for use in inkjet pr inters and meets the weight spe cifications for this product. ● Do not use pa per that is heavier than the recommended media specifica tion for this product unless it is HP paper tha t has been approved for use in t his product.
Configure t rays for paper type and size By def ault, the prod uct pulls pa per from Tray 2. If Tray 2 is empty, the product pulls paper fr om Tray 1, or Tray 3 if it is installed. Conf iguring a tray on this produ ct changes the speed settings to obtain the best print quality for the type of p aper that you a re using.
Configure a tray by using the cont rol panel You can al so configur e the trays for type an d size without a prom pt from th e produ ct. 1. Fr om the Home sc reen on the p roduct co ntrol panel, s croll to and touch the Tr ays button. 2. T ouch the li ne for the tray that you w ant to config ure, an d then touch the Modify b utton.
Load Tray 1 (mult i-purp ose tr ay o n left side of th e prod uct) 1. Open Tray 1. 2. Pull out the tray extension. 3. Extend the paper guides fully and then loa d the paper stack into Tray 1.
Load Tray 2 or optional Tr ay 3 1. Pull the tray out of the product. 2. Slide open the pape r length a nd width guides . 3. Place the paper in the tray and make sure that it is fla t at all fou r corners. Sl ide the side paper width guides so that they align with the pa per- size marking in the bottom of the tray.
4. Push down on the paper to make sure that the paper stack is below the paper limit tabs on the side of the tray. 5. Slide the tray into the product. NOTE: To close the tray, push in the middle or with even pressure on both sides. Avoid pushin g on one side only.

Replace the ink cartridges The pro duct uses fou r colors an d has a diff erent ink cart ridge for ea ch color: yellow (Y), cyan (C), mag enta (M), and black (K).

7. Close the ink ca rtridge door . 8. Place th e old cartrid ge in the bo x and refer to information about recycling u sed ink cartridges on the ink cartr idge box.

Print tasks (W indows) How to print ( Window s) The fol lowing proc edure de scrib es the basic printing process f or Windows. 1. From the software program, sele ct the Print option . 2. Sele ct the product from the li st of printe rs. To change settings, click or tap the Properties or Preferences button to open the print driver.
Automatica lly print on both sides (Windows) Use this pr ocedure for products tha t have an automatic duplexer installed . If the product doe s not have an automatic duplexer installed, or to print on paper type s that the dupl exer does n ot support, you ca n print on both sides manuall y.
Manually print on both si des (Win dows) Use this pr ocedure for products tha t do not ha ve an autom atic duplexe r installed or to print on paper that the dupl exer does not suppo rt.
Print multiple pa ges per sh eet (Window s) 1. From the software program, sele ct the Print option . 2. Sele ct the product fr om the list of printers, a nd then click or tap the Properties or Preferences button to open the print driver. Print tasks (Ma c OS X) How to print ( Mac O S X) The followin g procedure describes the basic printing p rocess for Mac OS X. 1. Clic k the File menu, and then cl ick the Pri nt option.
3. Open the menus drop-do wn list or click Sh ow Details , and then click the Layou t me nu. 4. From the Pages per Sheet drop-down list, se lect the number of pages that you want to print on each sheet. 5. In the Layout Direction area , select the o rder and pla cement of the pages on the shee t.
Store print jobs on the product to prin t later ● Create a stored job (Win dows) ● Create a stored job (Ma c OS X) ● Print a s tored job ● Delete a stored job Create a sto red job (Windows ) You can store job s on the product so you can print them at any time.
4. Select a Job Storage Mod e option. ● Proof and Hold : Print and proof one copy of a job, and then pr int more cop ies. ● Personal Job : The job does not p rint until you request it at the product c ontrol panel. For this job-storage mode, you can select one of the Make Job Private/Secure options.
● Proof and Hold : Print and p roof on e copy of a jo b, and then print more copies. ● Persona l Job : Th e job does not print until you request it a t the prod uct control panel. I f you assign a perso nal identific ation numbe r (PIN) to the job, you must pr ovide the r equired P IN at th e control panel.

Make a copy 1. Place the document face-down on the scanner glass, or place it face-up in the doc ument feed er and adjust the paper guides to fit the size of the document . 2. From the Home screen on the product control panel, touc h the Copy button .

Set up Scan to Emai l The product ca n scan a file and send it to one or more e mail ad dresses. U se the followin g infor mation to set up the Scan to Email feature.
10. On the Outgo ing E-ma il Ser vers ( SMTP) dialog, do one of the following: ● Select I kno w my S MTP se rve r addr ess o r host name , enter the inform atio n, and then cli ck Next .
b. Open a Web b rowser, and in the address line, type the IP a ddress or host name exactly as it displays on the product control pan el. Press the Ente r key on the comput er key board . The EWS opens. 2. Clic k the Scan/Dig ital S end tab. 3. I n the le ft navi gatio n pane, clic k the Addres s Book link.

4. In the Name field, enter the name of the contact. 5. From the menu list, select the E-mail A ddress option, and then enter the contact's email address.

8. On the Notifica tion Se tting s dialog, select the scan status notification pref erence. Click Next . 9. On the Fi le Se ttings dialog, select the file settings to use. Click Next . 10. Review th e Summary dialog and clic k Fini sh . 11. On the Save to N etwork Folder Setup dia log, click Apply to save the quick set.
Custom Sub folder : This opti on automatically c reates a subfolder for a s can in the d estination folder. Select a format for the subfolde r name from the list. Re stri ct su bfol der ac ce ss to us er : Select this option to rest rict subfol der access to the use r who creates the scan job.
Send only to folders with read and write access Select this option for folders configured for read and write access. Th is option also supports folder access verification, job notifications, and inclusion of user in a subfolder n ame.
Set up Save to USB 1. Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EW S): a. From the Home sc reen on the produc t cont rol pa nel, touc h th e Netwo rk button to display the IP address or host name. b. Open a Web b rowser, and in the address line, type the IP a ddress or host name exactly as it displays on the product control pan el.
Set up Save to SharePoi nt® (flow models only) NOTE: Before you c an comple te this proce dure, the de stination fold er to which you want to save sc anned files must exist on the SharePoi nt® site, and you must have write acce ss to the destinati on folder.
c. In the Auth enticatio n Setting s field, select w hether users must sign in with their credentials a t the control panel to access this Sha rePoint® fold er, or if the login c redentials sh ould always be the same as when you navigated to the folder.
Crea te a Quic k Set Use the Quick Sets feature to qu ickly access preset job options. T he produ ct administ rator can use the HP Embed ded Web Server to create Qui ck Sets, whic h are then av ailable i n the Quick Sets menu from the contr ol-pa nel Home s creen.

4. Enter the email a ddress. To send to multip le addresses, sepa rate the addresses with a semicolon, or touch the Enter button on the touchscr een keyboa rd after you typ e each address. 5. Complete the CC: , Subject: , and File Name: fi elds by touching the field and using the touchscreen keyboard to ente r information.

Send a scanned doc ument to a network folder The produc t can scan a file and save it in a fold er on the netw ork. The following op erating systems suppo rt this feature: ● Windows Serve r 2003, 64-bit ● Windows Serve r 2008, 64-bit ● Windows XP, 6 4-bit ● Windows Vista, 64-b it ● Windows 7, 64 -bit ● Novell v5.
